Abstract
The insulation element consists of a hollow cylinder with a lengthwise slit for fitting it onto a pipe, made from a block of mineral wool felt by pressing it out with a die. Prior to compression the felt has a density of 10 - 15 kg/m 2>, and contains 3 - 8 % of a reticulated binding agent. It is held in its compressed state by an outer layer of thermoplastic film with an optional reinforcing fibre and an aluminized layer to give it a metallic appearance.
