The system includes: A media object tracking system, a channel editing segment, a broadcasting system and a plurality of end-user PCs. The media object tracking system receives media objects from a plurality of different sources and tracks their distribution, modification and application. Associated with the media object tracking system is a plurality of editing stations, where received media objects can be processed to create broadcast-ready material. The channel editing segment preferably includes a plurality of channel editing centers (CECs) and one or more channel management centers (CMCs) that collect broadcast-ready media objects and plan them for broadcasting. Each planned media object is encoded in accordance with subscription information associated with the service to which the media object belongs. The encoded media object is multiplexed on a time division multiplex channel in a broadcast bit stream. The broadcasting system transmits the coded bit stream via a broadcasting channel. Properly equipped end-user PC apostrophes receive the transmission and give the end-user access to the parts of the broadcast that the end-user is authorized to receive.
