Abstract

A method is described for the treatment of ash that has been obtained in an electrostatic precipitator during the purification of flue gases from a soda boiler. The method is characterized by the fact that a water solution of the ash is formed, that white lye is added to the formed water solution and that the precipitate formed is separated from the solution. The white liquor is advantageously added in an amount which is at least sufficient to precipitate substances in the water solution which form hard-to-dissolve sulphides. It is preferred that the white liquor is added to a pH of 9-14. With the help of the method, the content of unwanted substances, such as sulphur, heavy metals, especially cadmium, potassium and chloride, can be adjusted in a process for the production of sulphate mass.
