Description
The present invention relates to a heel binding for a skate, including a side support for the heel of a skater's boot and a heel locking mechanism for vertical fixation of the heel on the skate, which heel locking mechanism includes a bracket mounted on the rear part of the skate, in which bracket a locking element is vertically pivotable and is intended in an activated state to be in contact with an edge portion of the top of the heel and in an unactivated state to be pivoted backward and away from the heel, which locking element is a two-armed locking element with a lower arm that is actuated by the boot heel , and with an upper heel-fixing arm which is provided with a jaw, a pivotable operating arm being arranged for compliant pressing against a comb profile on the rear edge of the locking element by means of a spring device.
Previously known heel bindings for bootless skates have required manual manipulation to lock and release the heel binding, and this manipulation is time-consuming and difficult for many skaters.
Heel bindings for skis are known (see, for example, US-A-3 325 178), which enable an automatic locking of the heel part of a ski boot and a simplified release and opening of the binding. However, such ski bindings are not suitable for use on skates, as they are relatively long in the longitudinal direction, and it is thus impossible to fasten the heel of the boot near the rear end of the skate.
One purpose of the present invention is to enable a new and improved heel binding for skates, which binding makes it possible to automatically lock a skater's boot heel to the skate, as well as making it possible to have a simple release or opening of the heel binding. At the same time, the heel binding must have a very compact construction, i.e. it must extend only a very small distance in the lengthwise direction of the skate, so that the binding can be mounted at the very back of the skate.
To achieve this, a binding of the initially mentioned type according to the invention is characterized by the fact that the operating arm is pressed against the cam profile via a cam roller, and that the spring device consists of a tension spring which is attached to the locking element and is intended to be tightened by the cam roller when the operating arm is swung backwards, away from the locking member to swing it from its active position to its heel release position. Such a construction makes it possible to mount an automatically lockable and easily removable binding with compact outer dimensions at the rear end of the skate.
Ytterligere detaljer og trekk ved bindingen ifølge oppfinnelsen er angitt i de uselvstendige krav og skal beskrives mer detaljert nedenfor under henvisning til tegningen, hvor: Fig. 1 viser et sideriss av en hælbinding ifølge Further details and features of the binding according to the invention are indicated in the independent claims and shall be described in more detail below with reference to the drawing, where: Fig. 1 shows a side view of a heel binding according to

oppf innelsen. the invention.
The army binding according to the invention, generally denoted by 10, includes a bracket 14 which is mounted on top of the rear end of the bootless skate 12. The bracket has a bottom plate 16 and two parallel, mutually spaced side supports 18, which extend vertically upwards. The side supports 18 form a storage for a two-armed locking element 20, which is stored in the supports 18 by means of a pin 22. The locking element 20 consists of an upper locking arm 24 and a lower articulated arm 26. The upper locking arm 24 has a jaw 28 in its front part , which jaw is vertically adjustable along a knurled portion on the front of the locking arm 24 and can be fixed in place by means of a screw 30. The lower joint arm 26 has a forward-directed end part 32 which is intended to be pressed down by the rear part of the heel 34 of the skater's boot. When the binding is opened, it is intended to lift the heel 34 upwards. The two arms in the locking element 20, i.e. the joint arm 26 and the locking arm 24, can swing limitedly in relation to each other about the pin 32 in order thereby, when the binding 20 is locked, to enable a certain delay with regard to the locking of the locking arm 24 against the heel 34, in relation to the pivoting movement of the joint arm 26, and a preceding backward movement of the locking arm 24 when the binding is opened.
An operating arm 36 is pivotally mounted in the bracket 14 by means of a pivot pin 37, which is mounted in the lower part of the supports 18 and close to the pin 22 in the skate's longitudinal direction. In the exemplary embodiment, the operating arm 36 has a TJ cross-sectional shape, so that it can occupy and grip a larger part of the locking element 20 with its U-profile sides when the binding is in the locked state.
The operating arm 36 carries in its middle part a cam roller 38, which extends between the sides of the U-profile and is rotatably mounted there. A tension spring 42 is attached to the upper part of the locking arm 24 at 40 and extends behind the cam roller 38. Its other end is attached to the pivot pin 37 of the operating arm 36. The tension spring 42 thus exerts a spring force on the cam roller 38 so that the roller will be kept in contact with a cam surface 44 on the rear edge of the locking arm 24. The cam surface 44 has two indentations 46 and 48, which serve as end positions for the cam roller 38. In the open position of the binding 10, as shown in fig. 1, the comb roller 38 rests in the upper end position 48, while the comb roller 48 in the closed position of the binding, as shown in fig. 2, has passed a cam top 50 and has entered the lower end position 46.
Fig. 2 shows a safety lock (not shown in Figs. 1 and 3), in the form of a pawl 52 which is spring-loaded to the one in Fig. 2 shown locking position, in which it yaws over the upper edge of the locking arm 24 and prevents the operating arm 36 from swinging backwards and thus unintentionally causing the binding 10 to open. To release the operating arm 36, the rear end 54 of the pawl 52 is pressed down. The upper end of the operating arm 36 has an indentation 56 where the tip of an ice-skating pole can be placed to press down the operating arm 36.
The binding 10 also has a side support 58 for the heel 34. This side support is in the design example in the form of two arms 60 and 62 (fig. 3) whose inner ends are connected to each other with the bracket 14 and thereby with the skate 12. The obliquely forward and outwardly directed arm ends each have an upward support 64 with a slightly outwardly angled upper part to thereby facilitate the insertion of the heel 34 between the supports 64. The position of the arms 60,62 in the horizontal plane can be adjusted to thus adapt the side support device 58 to different heel sizes. The side support device 58 for the heel 34 can optionally (not shown) be designed in one with the bracket or another part of the binding 10.
Bindingen 10 virker på følgende måte: The binding 10 works in the following way:
The boot toe is first inserted into a front toe support of a known type (not shown). The heel 34 is pressed down between the side supports 64 in the side support device 58. The heel will thereby press the joint arm 26 downwards, as it affects the end part 32 of the arm. Thereby, the upper locking arm 34 is swung forwards, i.e. anti-clockwise in fig. 1, about the pin 32. At the same time, the cam roller 38 will leave its upper end position 48 and go over the cam top 50. The cam roller 38 will, influenced by the spring 42, go to the lower end position, i.e. to the indentation 46. During this, the jaw 28 is pressed down against the heel 34 upper edge. Does the operating arm 36 have a pawl 52, as shown in fig. 2, then the tip of the pawl 42 will snap into a position where it comes into contact with the front of the locking arm 24, so that thereby the operating arm 36 is prevented from rotating clockwise.
When the binding 10 is to be opened, the operating arm 36 is pressed backwards, either manually or with the aid of an ice stick which is inserted into the indentation 56, the pawl 56, if present, being released first. When the cam roller 38 has passed the cam top 50, the locking arm 24 will swing outward until the cam roller 38 reaches its upper end position 48, as shown in fig. 1. The joint arm 26, which is limitedly pivotable in relation to the locking arm 24, allows the locking arm 24 with the jaw 28 to be opened somewhat before the joint arm 26 pushes the heel 34 up and out of the binding.
