Abstract

1. Mobile telephone system with stationary and mobile subscriber stations in the wide area of a land mobile network, consisting of a plurality of base stations in a mutual spatial arrangement, characterized by two radio sections in the respective radio equipment, of which one is active in the VHF region in thinly populated areas and works with a high transmitting power, and the other is active in the UHF range in densely populated areas and works with a relatively low transmitting power, and by a controller which monitors both radio sections according to predetermined criteria and activates a switch-over when necessary, and which at the same time activates the data signalling between base station and mobile station.

Description

The invention relates to a car telephone system with stationary and mobile subscriber stations in an extended area for a radio network consisting of several radio concentrators arranged mutually distributed in the area.

IEEE Vehicular Technology Conference, mars 1979, sidene 245-252 (spesielt fig. Older systems use relatively low frequencies (the VHF range) which offer the advantage of a relatively large range. Such systems, for example known from the 29th IEEE Vehicular Technology Conference, March 1979, pages 245-252 (especially fig.

area radiotelephone service", er godt egnet i landlige strøk, men tillater imidlertid bare relativt få kanaler. Således lar det seg ikke realisere noe cellulært system i dette frekvensom-råde . area radiotelephone service", is well suited in rural areas, but only allows relatively few channels. Thus, no cellular system can be realized in this frequency range.

Newer systems, as they are also known from the above-mentioned literature site (compare Fig. 2 and associated description), use transmission channels in the UHF range. These offer a large channel capacity with a reduced range, which is why they are well suited for densely built-up areas of smaller extent. For radio coverage of rural areas, due to the short range, a very large number of fixed stations must be set up.

DE-A-2 659 570 describes a telephone system with stationary and mobile subscriber stations in the widely extended area of a radio network which consists of several radio concentrator areas arranged in the form of a cellular system with overlapping radio areas. In this connection, the area in these first radio concentrator areas with a particularly high subscriber density is superimposed on other radio concentrator areas with significantly larger area radii and own frequencies not yet used in these areas. The other radio concentrator areas are assigned to the mobile subscriber stations that are intended for message traffic within this radio concentrator area.

Furthermore, a radio system is known from EP-A-0 11164 which expands a public telephone network with mobile receivers and radio telephone exchanges which are respectively arranged for a call area. With the help of a radio telephone exchange, call assignments that come directly or indirectly from a telephone network can be transmitted as call telegrams in a radio network and there trigger the sending of a radio call. In this connection, for several mutually immediately adjacent overlapping transmission areas, the same transmission frequency, called the national frequency, is used for sending radio calls, and to disconnect these in the overlapping areas, there are different, cyclically repeating time slots in the individual transmission areas. In addition, in a transmission area, another transmission frequency assigned specifically for this transmission area, called a local frequency, can be sent out, for the transmission of radio calls to such receivers who are still only in this transmission area. For the transmission of the local frequency in a transmission area, there are in the transmission area several mutually synchronized working local transmitters and for the transmission of the national frequency, several mutually synchronized working national transmitters are arranged in the transmission areas. There are two types of call receivers, namely one that is fixed-tuned and only suitable for receiving a local frequency single-channel receiver and a type that is also or as a fixed-tuned single-channel receiver exclusively suitable for receiving the national frequency.

The invention is based on the task of providing instructions for a solution for a uniform radio system to cover an area with varying population density.

According to the invention, this task is solved with a car telephone system consisting of two radio parts in the respective radio devices, one of which is active in the VHF range in sparsely populated areas and works with high transmission power and the other is active in the UHF range and works with relatively low transmission power, and a control device which, based on predetermined criteria, monitors both radio parts and, if necessary, causes a switchover and also causes the data signaling between the radio concentrator and the mobile station.

In what follows, the invention will be explained in more detail.

The basic idea of the invention is that two radio parts are combined in the car phone system. The radio frequency ranges of these radio components are respectively in the VHF and UHF bands. However, the car phone only has one control device that serves both radio areas as well as the data signaling between the radio concentrator and the mobile station.

Radiodelen for VHF-området (f.eks. The radio part in the UHF range (e.g. on 900 MHz) can work with relatively little power (approx. 1 W) and is intended for urban areas. The radio part for the VHF range (eg 80 MHz or 160 MHz) should serve to cover rural areas. For this part, a large transmission power (approx. 15 W) is needed. The control device which monitors both radio parts covers the first radio part as far as possible, i.e. channels in the UHF range. The car phone is then located in the city area. With the help of this control device, it is ensured that the low-frequency channels, of which there are only a few, are covered only when no high-frequency channels can be covered (the UHF range). The car phone is then located in a rural area. In this connection, the switchover can also be carried out during a call.
