Description
Anordning for steril oppbevaring. Device for sterile storage.
The present invention relates to a device for sterile storage of suture material, in particular cat gut. Such materials are usually stored in sterile bottles which, in addition to suture material, may contain a disinfectant, e.g. ethyl alcohol. The suture material is taken out of the bottles through a rubber stopper which is provided with a fine hole for the thread. The suture material is required in several different thicknesses during one and the same operation, and it has therefore been necessary to have several different bottles of suture material available during an operation. These bottles have taken up a significant amount of space in the operating theatre, which has had a detrimental effect on the surgeon's and staff's freedom of movement. The bottles have also been arranged in a way that is difficult to see over, which has resulted in wasted time. Several of the previously known storage devices for suture material have also been difficult to handle during sterilization due to their size.
The present invention aims to avoid the aforementioned disadvantages, and the device is mainly characterized by a stand which is provided with holding devices for placing storage containers for suture material in an inclined position and which can be introduced into a box whose front side is provided with openings that correspond to the openings of the storage container, and whose rear side is provided with an up-and-down hatch to enable sterile insertion and removal of the rack and of individual storage containers. The term "inclined position" means that the longitudinal direction of the bottle forms a certain angle with the horizontal plane. The smaller this angle, the better. The bottles are partially filled with ethyl alcohol and the risk of this leaking out sets a lower limit for the angle. When filling the bottle normally, it has proven appropriate to use an angle of approx. 45°.
The fixing on, in or to the container can be done in many different ways, but it has proved expedient to provide the holder with threads into which the bottles with their necks can be screwed into. It may be sufficient to have a single thread for each bottle, but in that case it is appropriate to arrange additional members to ensure stable retention. If the number of threads for each bottle is more than one, there is generally no need for other retaining means if the bottle is not abnormally large and heavy.
The holder has room for a number of bottles, e.g. four, six or eight pieces, arranged in one or more groups, e.g. two groups of two, three or four bottles. The bottles are placed one above the other, whereby they take up a minimum of space on the instrument table in the operating room.
It has proved advantageous to design the front sides of the box in such a way that the parts surrounding the openings lie in a plane which is perpendicular to the longitudinal direction of the bottle. This results in a front of the box which is provided with zigzag-shaped ledges.
