Abstract
Description
Lichtschakelaar, alsmede informatiedrager.Light switch, as well as information carrier.
The present invention relates to a light switch arranged in an assembly comprising at least one light guide and a lens connected thereto for emitting a light signal, the lens being arranged in a housing and said housing being provided with a recording for the lens. Such a light switch is generally known in the prior art. For information carriers, such as traffic signs, a large number of light guides are connected to one or more common light sources and a large number of light points are displayed in a matrix via the lenses, which are connected to the light guides. By obscuring certain points of light, different symbols can be formed.
Een dergelijkemechanische oplossing is gecompliceerd omdat daarvoor een ingewikkeldstangenstelsel noodzakelijk is.For example, it is proposed in the prior art to place a mechanical flip-over mechanism for each of the lenses. Such a mechanical solution is complicated because it requires a complicated linkage.
Another proposal involves placing LCDs in front of the lenses.
Although these can be electrically controlled, the light-dark ratio is not more than 30% - this means either a large loss occurs at maximum light transmission, or a somewhat "afterglow" when the light is blocked.
The disadvantage of both proposals is that the light switch for the lens is fitted here. Since this concerns fairly fragile parts, it is necessary to fit a diamond again, which gives rise to reflections and loss. In recent years, efforts have been made to refrain from using such front windows as much as possible.
The aim of the present invention is to avoid the disadvantages described above.
This object is achieved with the above light switch, in that the light switch comprises a body which can be brought into the light path at the point of coupling of the light guide and lens, as co-operating means for that body.
The invention is based on the insight that when the light guide is coupled to the housing in which the lens is mounted, there is always a very small free space between the end of the light guide and the "entrance" of the lens. This already available free space is used for moving a body in and out. This can be achieved in a comparatively simple and uncomplicated manner, as will become apparent from the preferred embodiments below, and on the other hand it is no longer necessary to provide a protective plate for the outlet opening of the lens, so that the disadvantages described above are eliminated.
This body can be brought into the light path in any manner known in the prior art. One possibility is turning, but according to a preferred embodiment of the invention, the body comprises a sliding body. The operating means described above can also be any means known in the prior art, such as magnetic flushing means. Preference is, however, given to electric operation in combination with spring action. More specifically, it is proposed to use springs which are tensioned by wires of memory metal.
By heating or not heating these memory metal wires by passing a current, the springs can be brought into different positions. In addition to the means for moving the body into different positions, locking means may also be present for fixing the body in a certain position. This plays a particularly important role when spring means are used, which are temporarily operated as described above. This temporary operation can for instance be realized with the aid of a contact that is broken as soon as the desired displacement has been carried out.
The construction described above can be mounted in a particularly simple manner on a printed circuit board, so that the whole can be integrated very easily with other electronic components of the device.
The invention also relates to an information carrier provided with a read-out surface formed at least partly as a matrix. A plurality of lenses are arranged thereon, which are connected via light guides to at least one light source. A light switch as described above is always arranged in the light path between the light guide and lenses, so that various symbols can be displayed using the information carrier.
Daarbij tonen:The invention will be explained in more detail below with reference to illustrative embodiments shown in the drawing. Show:

17 bevestigd is. For the construction of the light switch according to the invention, reference is made to Figs. 1 and 2. This shows that a housing indicated with 1 is present, which is arranged on a printed circuit board 5. In printed circuit board 5 there is an opening (not shown). arranged for the passage of light guide 3 · This light guide 3 is provided at the end facing away from the light source (not shown) with a coupling end 4, which must be placed in a certain very precisely defined position relative to the lens. It is thereby prescribed that a certain minimum distance is present between the free end of coupling end 4 and the entrance of lens 2. A value of 0.2 mm is mentioned as an example. A slide 6 is movable in this free space. As a result, passage of light may or may not be completely blocked. Slider 6, as appears in particular from Fig. 1, is provided with an opening 10 and a slot 9. Housing 1 is provided with a slot 11 for receiving the slider. In addition, two superposed slots 12 and 13 are provided for receiving an operating spring 7. while 90 * rotated in the housing, superposed slots 14, 15 are provided for receiving a locking spring 8. Both the operating spring 7 and locking spring 8 are provided of a protruding part 20 resp. 21 to which a wire 16 resp. 17 has been confirmed. By extending or shortening the distance between the attachment point of this wire 16, 17 relative to the board 5. into which the other end of such a wire is inserted, the relevant spring will move back and forth. In the illustrated embodiment, the wire 16, 17 consists of a memory metal, which is clamped in the printed circuit board 5. By passing a current through such a memory metal, wire 16 resp. Shortening, spring 7 will move to the right, starting from the condition shown in Fig. 2, with the end that protrudes into opening 10 of the slot 6, because the other end is inserted into the printed circuit board immovably through an unspecified opening.
The different operating states of the light switch according to the invention will be explained with reference to Figs. 3 and 4. In the situation shown in Figs. 3a and 4a, the slide has moved to the left and protrudes into the light path between the free end of the light guide lens 2. As a result, no light is transmitted. No current is passed through one of the wires 16, 17. Operating spring 7 is in the left-moved position, while locking spring 8 rests against the slider in the area outside the slot 9
Wire 16 is hereby tensioned and operating spring 7 moves to the right, whereby slide 6 is also moved. When traveling a sufficient distance, the light path between the free end of coupling end 4 and lens 2 is released, so that light appears on the outside of the relevant information carrier. When such a sufficiently long path has been covered, locking spring 8 moves into slot 9, so that after the current passage through wire 16 has ended slide 6 cannot move back to the left by the action of locking spring 8.
If it is desired to interrupt the light path, wire 17 is heated, whereby locking spring 8 will move out of slot 9 and due to the spring force of operating spring 7, which is now no longer tensioned by wire 16, slide 6 will move to the left as shown in fig. 4. condition and the light path are blocked.
Hereby the heating of the different wires 16, 17 will be controlled by means of a time-controlling mechanism. Such control requires relatively little power and can be implemented simultaneously for many light switches. The construction described above is very simple and does not contain any mechanical parts that can wear out due to movement.
In fig. Fig. 5 shows an embodiment in which the control of the heating wires 16, 17 from memory metals is determined by the position of the associated spring. For this purpose, a contact plate 18 is provided, provided with a contact point 19. This contact plate can be of somewhat resilient design. When the desired position of the spring is reached, the supply of current to the memory metal is interrupted by making or breaking contact with that spring.
Although the invention has been described above with reference to a preferred embodiment, it is clear that numerous modifications can be made there without going beyond the scope of the present application. It is thus possible to operate the slide in all other ways known in the prior art. This may include electrical or magnetic operation. All such changes are within the scope of the appended claims.
