Abstract

At the rear of the cooled cavity, which has a volume of 20 litres or more, is a eutectic plate. The plate contains a 'solid solution' in which the freezing of the water concentrates the strength of the other constituent of the solution. The plate is pierced by a network of tubes which carry the refrigerant gas. The gas passes to a condenser on the rear wall of the refrigerator. The eutectic plate freezes in about 1.5 hours, during which the compressor is running, and melts in about 12 hours, when no power is consumed. The compressor is operated by a thermostatic clock.
