Abstract

The blanket for covering a liq., partic. water in a swimming pool, comprises two sheets of plastic foil with a layer of foam plastic sandwiched between them. The sheets are heat-welded together in positions arranged at spaced intervals. Foil and foam are in materials which are heat-weldable to one another, continuous strips of the foam being thus secured to both foil sheets in the said positions. The blanket may be mfd. by passing the superimposed sheets with the foam between them from respective supply rolls over a table with a heat-welding member vertically movable above it.

Insulating blanket for covering a liquid and method and device for manufacturing it.

The invention relates to an insulating blanket for covering a liquid, in particular water from a swimming pool, comprising at least two plastic foils and plastic foam material incorporated between them, which foils are adhered to each other by heat welding at spaced apart welding locations.

Such a blanket is known. Cushions of foam material are included between the welding seams that connect the two films.

During the manufacture of the blanket it is difficult to put and keep the cushions in their correct place.

The object of the invention is to provide a blanket that is easier to manufacture.

For this purpose, for the foam material and the foils, plastics have been chosen which can be adhered to each other by heat welding and a strip of synthetic foam that extends over the welding points is adhered to the foils on both sides.

This insulating blanket is easier to manufacture in a continuous process, because the foam material can be supplied in the same manner as the foils of a supply roll.

The invention also provides a method and an apparatus for manufacturing an insulating blanket according to the invention as described in claims 2 and 3.

The invention will be elucidated in the following description with reference to a drawing.

Fig. 2 a device and method for manufacturing an insulating blanket according to the invention.

The insulating blanket 1 according to the invention consists of two foils 2 of plastic, for example P.V.C. with a plasticizer and a strip 3 of foam material disposed therebetween, e.g., P.V.C.-based foam with a plasticizer. In any case, the choice of material is such that they can be welded together by heat welding technology, for example by high-frequency welding.

In figure 2, the foils 2 come from two stock rolls 4 and the strip 3 from a stock roll 5 and are fed stepwise to a common take-up roll 6, 7 being passed through a welding device 8 '. The welding device 8 comprises a table 9 and an up and down movable pressing die 10 which has downwardly extending ridges 11 at the welding locations.

During each welding operation, the films 2 are adhered to the locally compressed strip 3. For example, an insulating blanket 1 is easy to manufacture. The cushions are now particularly well located. In order to seal a blanket 1 at its end edges, a press die 13 is optionally present. The insulating blanket 1 can for instance be 3 to 5 mm. being fat.
