Abstract

Tile comprises an upper layer of carpeting material and a stiff base layer with a layer (2) of resilient material interposed. If the tile consists of more than three layers, the resilient layer (2) is preferably arranged directly below the carpeting material. The base layer may have a bitumen-based composition whilst the resilient layer may consist of foam plastic. Used as loose-laid carpet tile. The intermediate layer results in considerably increased resistance to wear and aging deterioration. It improves noise and heat insulation characteristics, provides a more agreeable tread quality, and helps to absorb unevenness in the floor surface.

Korte Aanduiding: Los te leggen tapijttegel.Short indication: Carpet tile to be laid.

The invention relates to a carpet tile which can be laid loose and which is provided with an upper carpet layer and a rigid lower layer.

Such carpet tiles are generally known. In a first existing embodiment, the carpet top layer is directly applied to a bottom layer of atactic polypropylene, which material gives a very hard rigid bottom layer.

In a further preferred embodiment, a heavy rigid substrate is obtained by a bitumen-based composition comprising fine sand and bitumen. The carpet layer is often treated with a latex layer on the underside to guarantee good anchoring of the yarns of the carpet layer. The bitumen-based underlayer is then applied to this latex layer.

A third embodiment is the manufacturing of the bottom layer from a PVC-based composition in which the carpet layer is anchored in the PVC composition, which is designed such that a heavy rigid bottom layer is formed. Such a heavy stiff underlay is necessary in order to be able to lay the carpet tiles as loose tiles on the floor 20 without the danger of curling, sliding or the like of the tile occurring.

A drawback of these existing constructions, however, is that a carpet composed of such carpet tiles is quickly subject to so-called "depletion", while further the carpet layer starts to show signs of wear after a relatively short time.

The object of the invention is to obtain a carpet tile of the above-mentioned type, wherein the above-mentioned drawbacks of the known carpet tiles can be obviated.

According to the invention this can be achieved in that an intermediate layer consisting of resilient material is arranged between the carpet layer and the bottom layer.

Surprisingly, it has been found that as a result of this the wear and depletion phenomena only occur after a considerably longer period of time than with the existing carpet tiles, while furthermore the sound damping and / or insulation properties of the carpet tiles according to the invention are considerably better than that of hitherto known carpet tiles. Furthermore, the carpet formed by such carpet tiles will show a certain resilience, which makes the carpet run smoothly.

A further advantage of the carpet tile according to the invention is that it is easier to absorb any irregularities present in the substrate.

The invention will be explained in more detail below with reference to the accompanying figure, in which a carpet tile according to the invention with the various layers is shown spaced apart in perspective.

As shown in the figure, a carpet tile in the exemplary embodiment shown is composed of three layers, namely an upper carpet layer 1, an underlying layer of resilient material consisting of intermediate layer 2 and a lower layer of relatively stiff material 3.

The top carpet layer 1 will be built up of fibers in a usual manner, the fibers being connected to each other, for instance with a latex layer applied to the underside of the carpet layer.

The intermediate layer 2 will preferably be made of a resilient plastic material, for example a foamed plastic material.

The bottom layer 3 can be made of the same material as described above for the known carpet tiles and preferably of a bitumen-based composition.

The rigid underlayer 3 will provide the properties of the carpet tile required for laying loose tiles, while the intermediate resilient material layer 2 will provide the carpet tile with the necessary resilience, which surprisingly contributes to extending the life of the carpet. carpet tile as well as imparting some further favorable properties to the carpet tile, such as the above-mentioned soundproofing, resilient running and the like.

If the carpet tile may be built up of more than three layers, it is preferably ensured that the layer of resilient material is always located directly below the carpet layer.
