Abstract
The free ends of the wire spool are tinned in an automatic dipping station forming part of a production carousel. The dipping station comprises a rotating bath of molten tin mounted on a frame supported on vertical slides. The frame is supported by a cam wheel which causes the frame to rise and descend in synchronisation with the carousel production process. A sweep is pref. incorporated in the assembly which removes the slag from the surface of the tinning bath. The drive cam be changed to alter the rate of climb and descent of the bath, the height to which the wire ends are dipped and the period of time during which the ends are immersed according to the diameter of the wire and the nature of the subsequent welding process. Mechanism provides a reliable and flexible method of tinning spooled wire ends in an automatic prodn. carousel.
