Abstract

A method for impregnating a stack of timber with a liquid to protect it against fire or termites, bacteria fungus etc., includes enclosing the stack inside a flexible sheet inside a fixed vessel, then sealing the joint between the sheet and the vessle. The air inside the sheet is then removed by suction, and the impregnating fluid pumped inside the sheet. The vessel can be filled with water to maintain pressure on the contents of the fluid filled sheet, and this ensures good penetration of the impregnating fluid into the wood stack. Packers can be inserted between the members of the stack to assist penetration. The flexible sheet can be attached by suitable securing members for the operation giving adequate sealing.
