Abstract

The seal acts between an axially-sliding component and a second one, having an annular body of graphite or other material consisting mainly of carbon. The body (13) is of U- or C-section, formed round an annular supporting core (14). In the graphite used, material can be incorporated in powder form which is electrically positive in relation to iron, and the body can be of compressed graphite particles or alternatively carbon fibre, while metal can be used for the core. The latter can include a spring circlip, of 0-section.
