Abstract

The system produces a honeycomb-section mat, typically as a filling for a panel etc. The tightly-folded honeycomb packet is extended in a direction at right angles to its laminations, which are glued together, the packet width being simultaneously reduced, and is fixed in position in a stove in this expanded state. After expansion, but before fixing, glued side strips are pressed against the packet sides, the protruding ends of the laminations being simultaneously folded over. An endless belt can be used, with driving dogs having pins moving up and down engaging in the honeycomb packet, while at the head of the belt is a work table with converging guides (10) for the packet edges. A tunnel stove inlet is situated clear of the narrowest point between the guides. Rolls (14) of side strip are mounted near the inlet, while there are guides in the stove (19) spaced apart for a distance less than the width of the expanded honeycomb. Glue is applied to the strips on the side towards the latter.
