Abstract

(I) (where the aryl gp. is opt. substd. by NH2, halogen, alkyl, NO2, OH, alkoxy, aryloxy, COOH, CN etc.) are prepd. by reacting an arylazomalononitrile (II) with HCONH2 and NH3 in presence of a NH4 salt. (I) are obtd. in good yield and purity and can be converted to adenine (III) (in situ if desired), also obtd. in good yield and purity. In an example, 4,5-diamino-5-phenylazopyrimidine was obtd. in 91.4% yield when (II; aryl = Ph) was reacted with HCONH2, NH3 and NH4Cl.
