Abstract

A very fine gauze surface is provided with a support such as a coarse supporting sieve. The fine gauze surface and the supporting body are produced separately. On one or both of the bodies, the supporting body or the fine gauze, a layer of soldering material is deposited galvanically. At the most this layer is as thick as the lands between the openings in the fine gauze material. The gauze and the supporting body are then pressed together, the layer of solder if not already fluid, is liquefied by heat and the bond is made when the solder sets. The layer of solder is applied galvanically with one face of the supporting sieve or of the fine gauze covered by the matrix in which it was formed, as it hangs in the bath. The layer of solder may be applied with the reverse face of the body covered by a layer of lacquer. The layer of solder is at most half as thick as the lands of the fine screen. The solder is applied to the fine screen only on separate surfaces smaller than those of the supporting screen with which it comes into contact, such as small round zones. The pressing together of the two screens for soldering is effected by arranging them between pressing details and applying a vacuum. A simpler method of providing a fine screen having a thicker supporting body above it, without filling the holes with solder, or the difficulties of electroformation in which lateral bridges can be set up and block parts of the fine gauze. The supporting body may be of a different metal from that of the fine gauze.
