Abstract
In a device for conversion of electrical to acoustic vibrations and vice versa, having >=1 vibrating plate contg. a layer of piezoelectric material and divided up into a number of sectors provided on each with electrodes, the sectors are polarised alternately in opposite directions transversely, while each electrode is mounted over two adjacent sectors, the electrodes on the two faces of the piezo-electric layer being mutually staggered. When used to form a microphone a low capacity is produced by being able to connect all the sectors in series, so that a higher potential is available at the input of the microphone amplifier. Pref. a microphone membrane consists of a pre-polarised simple film of polyvinylidene fluoride, and has a thickness, e.g. 25 mu m. and may be rectangular or circular e.g. diameter 10 mm.
