Abstract

The storage unit holds sacks lying horizontally in a stack, and which when empty and folded have a thickened portion on one or both sides. The base comprises two equal sections (5, 6), hinging together about a fixed or rotary axis (3), while their other edges are joined to the bases of a sidewall (7, 8). The upper edge of each sidewall is so supported as to keep each section sloping downwards in such a manner that the top sack in the stack remains flat however many there are underneath it. Typically, springs (11, 12) can be used to support the sidewalls, or alternatively cables or strip running over rollers and attached to a weight, while each base section has an arm with a counterweight. This arm forms an obtuse angle, open towards the underneath, with the base section. This keeps the inclination of the base section in proportion with the number of sacks.
