Abstract

A flax processing machine for removing the seed pods from the stalks, has a main shaft with a number of radial arms near its ends, carrying comb bars which rotate parallel to the axis of the main shaft. Each comb bar has >=1 comb holder, and is linked to an eccentric wheel in such a way by a crank that it is displaced during rotation, parallel to its plane of rest. There is a conveyor moving the flax stalks parallel to the comb bars, comprising two driven wheels, against the resilient covered surfaces, e.g. auto tyres, of which, an endless belt is tensioned. For pref. each comb bar has a rough comb moving in the range of the first wheel and a fine comb located separately in the range of the second wheel. The flax stalks are aligned by the coarse comb first, and are then cleaned by the fine comb. Yield of seed is improved and losses of fibre prevented.
