Abstract

In a membrane filter unit comprising a pressure resistant envelope, the cross section of which is filled with filtration membrane surfaces having wedge-shaped cross section, the membrane surfaces being mutually separated by a porous layer, the tops of the apices of the sectors comprising the tubular filter membranes of sectional cross section, are interconnected in the centre of the envelope, support the curved end walls on the cylindrical inner wall of the envelope and the side walls of the sector support each other from the centre to the inside of the envelope. The risk of damage to the membranes is reduced by mutual support provided by the sector-shaped filtration membranes and associated fibre fleece material, and locating of the membranes within the envelope is much easier since no central tube is required.
