Abstract

Slaked lime and mortars for use a building materials are produced by mixing together quicklime, H2O and additives in the presence of a reaction-retarding substance (esp. a glue) to control the reaction rate. By controlling the reaction rate, the temp. of the mixt. can be kept relatively low (e.g. 90 degrees C) and H2O losses reduced, so that only the amt. of H2O required for reaction with the CaO need be added, while allowing time for efficient mixing of the components (CaO, sand, etc.). In this way, dry products, e.g. dry mortars contg. =1% H2O, can be produced. The glue is pref. added together with the H2O, pref. in an amt. of 0.5-4 wt.% based on the solids content of the mixt.
