Abstract

The grating is for fitting round the base of a tree on a road, pavement, etc., so as to allow the road surface to run close to it and at the same time permit the passage of water, air, gases etc. to and from the surrounding earth. It comprises a series of separate sections together forming more than one sectioned enclosing ring, the rings being concentric. Most sections can be rectangular, with their length a whole multiple of the width, the innermost ones having concave notches or curved sections to accommodate the trunk etc. Most or all sections can have the same angular or curved shaped, ending along radial lines in the complete grating assembly.
