Abstract

Solns. of ketone peroxides in inert solvents are stabilised by the addn. of an amine oxide (R1)(R2)(R3) right arrow O (where R1 R2 and R3 are (OH-substd.), (cyclo)alkyl gps. and R1 and/or R2 may also = H), in an amt. sufficient to render the soln. stable to storage under adiabatic conditions at 55 degrees C. The peroxide solns. are known and useful e.g. as curing agents for unsatd. polyester resins; typical solns. are of methyl-ethylketone peroxide or cyclohexanone peroxide in dimethylphthalate, dibutylphthalate, ethyl acetate, etc. These solns. are stabilised e.g. by adding at least 0.1%, pref. 0.2-0.5% of an amine oxide, e.g. triethanolamine oxide or tributylamine oxide.
