Abstract

Polymsn. of butadiene at elevated temps. in a soln. of butadiene in a polar solvent e.g. during extractive distilln. for the recovery of butadiene, is prevented by adding to the soln. an aromatic nitro cpd. as polymsn. inhibitor. The nitro cpd. is e.g. nitro-, dinitro or monohalodinitrobenzene, or dinitrotoluene. The conc. of nitro cpd. is 0.05-5 wt.% based on solvent. The soln. also contains a second polymsn. inhibitor, e.g. sodium nitrite, methylene blue, S, t-butylcatechol, or beta-naphthylamine.
