Abstract

In the disproportionation of alkenes in the presence of a disproportionation catalyst to form alkenes contg. a different no. of C atoms, the starting alkene is pretreated by contacting with MgO at a temp. at which MgO does not catalyse double bond isomerisation. The pretreatment increases the conversion in the disproportionation reaction, probably be removing traces of impurities, e.g. peroxides and hydroperoxides.
