Abstract

Lactams are prepd. from cycloaliphatic ketoximes, using a lactam - Ti(IV) halide complex as catalyst. The complexes, specif. TiCl4. caprolactam and TiCl4. 2 caprolactam, are novel. The lactam can be sepd. easily from the reaction mixt. A salt is not obtd. as by-prod., and the catalyst is recovered unaltered. A single-step reaction is provided.
