Abstract

Rifamycin B in a fermentation broth is oxidised with NaNO2, NaS2O3 or H2O at 15-25 degrees C and pH 4-75 and the insol rifamycin O recovered. An example uses NaNO2 to give rifamycin O of 95% purity/after recrystallisation) in substantially quantitative yields.
