Abstract
Plate shaped light-emitting device of the known type in which light is generated by a discharge in a gas-filled space between oppositely situated substrates each of which carries a series of electrodes, those on one of the substrates being installed in such a way that they lie opposite those on the other substrate and cross these, with the gas-filled space between them, incorporating the improvement whereby the pressure of the gas in this space is of the order or 760mm Hg and the series of electrodes on one substrate are spaced from those on the other substrate at a distance such that it is determined by the product of the pressure of the gas and the distance between the electrodes on the substrates, at minimum ignition potential approximately.
