Abstract

Biguanides of formula (I): (where R1-R6 = H, hal (1-8C) alkyl, (2-8C) alkenyl, NO2, NH2, N (1-8C) alkyl 2, (1-8C)haloalkyl, (1-8C)O-haloalkyl (1-8C), O-haloalkanoyl, OH, CN, CNS, CO2H, (2-9C) COi alkyl, SO2N (1-8C) alkyl 2, (1-8C)SO2 alkyl, (1-8C) SO2 haloalkanoyl, PhO, (1-8C) O-acyl, O-halophenyl, Ph and or halophenyl), and salts of (I) are antihypertensives and CNS depressants, with spasmolytic and anti-secretory activity. Cpds. (I) are prepd by condensing cyanoguanidine with an opt. substd. anilinium salt in a polar (pref. phenolic) medium.
