Abstract
The effluent is pref. acidified to pH 4 with HNO3 and passed over a strong acid ion exchanger, pref. one with a high proportion of divinyl benzene. Process gives good removal of residues of Hg cpds. such as methylmercury benzoate, methylmercurydicyandiamide, etc. The mercury can be recovered from the spent resin by destructive distn. of (in some cases) by elution with 6N HNO3 to regenerate the exchanger.
