Liquid vapour contacting plate of the known type consisting of a series of parallel narrow channels bounded by walls extending to a uniform height above and a uniform depth below the plate surface, the parts of the channels below the plate having improved outlet devices, sealed by liquid against the upward passage of vapour, and consisting of a series of openings in the plate bottom with dimensions greater than those of the perforations in the active part of the plate and related to the number of openings per unit length of channel in such a way that a head loss of at least 4 mm. results, and the channels which extend from one side of the plate to the other, are uniformly distributed over the plate with a spacing which provides 3.28 - 16.4 m of channel inlet edge per m2 plate area.
