Abstract

Fertiliser metering unit for house plants, consisting of a capsule of a material which disintegrates in the soil, filled with a pre-determined quantity of finely divided dry organic fertiliser. Because of the limited room available for the roots of house plants the incorporation of dried organic fertiliser, partic. stable manure, in the soil is difficult or impossible. The new technique ensures that the fertiliser can be decomposed by soil bacteria and does not lie on the surface where it can produce an unpleasant smell. A gelatine capsule is pref. used, which is softened and eventually dissolved by water, and can easily be pushed below the soil surface. Gelatine also contributes to the nitrogen requirements of the plant. Dried stable manure, partic. cow manure, is pref. used as the fertiliser.
