Abstract

Aqueous salt solns. esp. alkaline chlorides are electrolysed in a cell with anode and cathode compartments separated by a cation exchange diaphragm comprising two exchange membranes next to each other. The one on the anode side is a polyfluorohydrocarbon-based sheet (1) of thickness 0.001 - 0.1 mm., whilst the other is F-free material 0.15 - 0.9 mm thiole. (1) is pref. grafted with styrene, opt. with divinylbenzene, and sulphonated.
