Abstract

One or more diolefins in an inert solvent(toluene) are contacted at 85-130 degrees C with a catalytic mixture of (1) an iron salt and/or complex (iron-III-octanoate or-acetoacetonate) (2) a ligand 4,4'-dimethyl-2,2'-bipyridyl) and (3) one or more organometallic compounds or metal hydrides of Groups I, II or III metal(triethylaluminium, n-butyl-lithium). The cyclic dimers are valuable chemical intermediates.
