Abstract

The addition of a suitable chemical mixture to ethylene glycol produces an antifreeze which does not cause metal corrosion, even when left in a radiator or engine for periods of two years. The chemical mixture consists of a buffer plus a small percentage of organic intro-and sulphur compounds such that the pH of the resultant coolant mixture remains in the region 7.5 - 9.5. One part by volume of the antifreeze is used to 1 - 2 parts by volume of water.
