Description

TITLE OF THE INVENTION
A roller blind system and installation method
BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION
The invention relates to a roller blind system.
Roller blinds are well-known window coverings in which a fabric or fabric-like screen is wrapped around a roller, e.g. a rod or tube element. To control the roller blind there is typically a chain or string on either side of the roller blind. When the side chain is pulled one direction the roller blind will raise, and if pulled in the opposite direction it will lower instead.
Automated roller blinds additionally or alternatively have a motor, e.g. in the rod or tube element, to lower and raise the roller blind without manual intervention.
Especially in case of large window facades where a plurality of roller blinds needs to be installed and aligned with respect to each other, installation flexibility and speed becomes more and more important to reduce installation costs, in particular for automated roller blinds that also need wiring and connections installed. Current roller blind systems require either a complex installation process for perfect alignment and/or are not flexible to easily make adjustments during or after installation,
Another drawback is that with automated roller blinds access to control components and wiring may be necessary after installation for maintenance or post-installation updates.
Current prior art systems require a lot of work to make this happen, e.g. sometimes even requiring the removal of the roller blind.
Things get even more complex when profiles need to be installed as cover profiles to hide a large portion of the components and integrate the roller blind with the facade.
Currently, such profiles are mounted directly to the ceiling or wall or to the mounting brackets supporting the roller blinds.
SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION
In view of the above it is an object of the invention to provide a roller blind system that is easy to install and allows to make adjustments during installation.
According to a first aspect of the invention, there is provided a roller blind system comprising: - a first mounting bracket configured to be mounted to a wall or ceiling and configured to support a first end of a roller blind, - a second mounting bracket configured to be mounted to a wall or ceiling and configured to support a second end of a roller blind, - a first profile support configured to be mounted to the first mounting bracket, - a second profile support configured to be mounted to the second mounting bracket, and - a profile to be mounted to the first and second profile support, wherein a mounting position of the first profile support relative to the first mounting bracket is adjustable, wherein a mounting position of the second profile support relative to the second mounting bracket is adjustable, wherein the profile is releasably connectable to the first and second profile support, and wherein the profile includes a cable tray extending in longitudinal direction of the profile for receiving data and/or power cables.
The invention according to the first aspect of the invention is based on the insight that an intermediate member is required between a mounting bracket and profile to provide sufficient flexibility by making the mounting position between the mounting bracket and the intermediate member, i.e. the first and second profile support, adjustable. A further advantage is that the profile can be used to receive data and/or power cables or even other control components as well but can also be used as cover profile and can be released from the first and second profile supports without interference from the mounting brackets. This provides practical flexibility during and after installation.
According to an embodiment, the first profile support and the first mounting bracket are configured to allow temporary fixation of the mounting position of the first profile support relative to the first mounting bracket and/or wherein the second profile support and the second mounting bracket are configured to allow temporary fixation of the mounting position of the second profile support relative to the second mounting bracket.
An advantage thereof is that the first profile support and the first mounting bracket, and the second profile support and the second mounting bracket can be pre-assembled and installed as units after which adjustments are still possible by releasing the temporary fixation, adjust the mounting position and fixing the mounting position again. Another advantage is that once the desired mounting position has been found during installation, this mounting position can be fixed so that undesired changes of the mounting position after installation can be prevented. in an embodiment, the profile is releasably connectable to the first and second profile supports using respective snap connections. This makes it easy to connect and release also when there is only a small installation space available.
In an embodiment, the snap connections define a substantially vertical connection and release direction of the profile relative to the first and second profile supports. This allows to install and remove the profile from below which is advantageous when there is only a small installation space available, e.g. in coves.
In an embodiment, the roller blind system comprises a roller blind.
In an embodiment, the roller blind system has an installed state in which the first and second mounting brackets are mounted to a wall or ceiling and support a respective first end and second end of the roller blind, in which the first profile support is mounted to the first mounting bracket, in which the second profile support is mounted to the second mounting bracket, and in which the profile is connected to the first and second profile supports, and wherein the roller blind system is configured to disconnect and remove the profile from the first and second profile supports without having to remove the roller blind.
An advantage thereof is that the profile can be connected and disconnected without having to remove or manipulate the other components like the mounting brackets and roller blinds.
In an embodiment, in the installed state the cable tray is at least partially located below the roller blind. This allows to decrease the overall dimensions of the roller blind system and allows to install the roller blind system in smaller spaces.
In an embodiment, the first and second profile supports include a spacer that is preferably adjustable in length to set a mounting distance between a structural element, e.g. a wall or window, and the respective profile support during installation.
An advantage thereof is that finding the right mounting position and alignment is easier and more accurate. The spacer is preferably adjustable in length to allow the use of a plurality of different distances as desired.
In an embodiment, the profile is configured as a cover profile limiting visibility of the first and second mounting brackets and the first and second profile support, and possibly also a roller of the roller blind when supported by the first and second mounting brackets.
In an embodiment, the roller blind is a motorized roller blind, the first mounting bracket is a motor-side bracket, and the second mounting bracket is an idle-side bracket.
Preferably, the cable tray is configured to receive a power and/or data cable and/or control components to control movement of the motorized roller blind of the roller blind system.
In an embodiment, the first and second mounting bracket are configured to support a first roller blind, wherein the roller blind system further comprises:
- a third mounting bracket configured to be mounted to a wall or ceiling and configured to support a first end of a second roller blind, - a fourth mounting bracket configured to be mounted to a wall or ceiling and configured to support a second end of a second roller blind, 5 - a third profile support configured to be mounted to the third mounting bracket, - a fourth profile support configured to be mounted to the fourth mounting bracket, wherein a mounting position of the third profile support relative to the third mounting bracket is adjustable, wherein a mounting position of the fourth profile support relative to the fourth mounting bracket is adjustable, and wherein the profile is releasably connectable to the first, second, third and fourth profile support.
According to a second aspect of the invention, there is provided a method for installing a roller blind system according to the first aspect of the invention, comprising the following steps: a. mounting the first mounting bracket to a wall or ceiling, b. mounting the second mounting bracket to a wall or ceiling, c. mounting a first profile support to the first mounting bracket, d. mounting the second profile support to the second mounting bracket, e. mounting the profile to the first and second profile supports, f. mounting a roller blind to the first and second mounting brackets, g. adjusting a mounting position of the first profile support relative to the first mounting bracket, and h. adjusting a mounting position of the second profile support relative to the second mounting bracket.

DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF THE INVENTION
Figs. 1-4 schematically depict a roller blind system 1 according to an embodiment of the invention. Fig. 1 schematically depicts a perspective view, Fig. 2 schematically depicts a perspective view from above, Fig. 3 schematically depicts a side view, and Fig. 4 schematically depicts a bottom view,
The roller blind system 1 comprises a mounting bracket 2 configured to be mounted to a ceiling and configured to support an end of a roller blind. The mounting bracket 2 may be a first mounting bracket 2 configured to support a first end of a roller blind or a second mounting bracket 2 configured to support a second end of a roller blind. The configuration of the mounting bracket 2 in this embodiment is such that it can be used for both the first and second end of a roller blind.
However, in other embodiments it is envisaged that the first mounting bracket differs from the second mounting bracket, for instance when the mounting brackets are configured to support a motorized roller blind including a rod or tube with a motor arranged at one end of the rod or tube. The first mounting bracket may then be configured as a motor-side mounting bracket and the second mounting bracket may then be configured as an idle-side mounting bracket.
The roller blind system 1 further comprises a profile support 3. When the mounting bracket 2 is a first mounting bracket, the profile support 3 is a first profile support 3 and when the mounting bracket 2 is a second mounting bracket, the profile support 3is a second profile support. In this embodiment, the first profile support and the second profile support are mirror images of each other. The profile support 3 is configured to be mounted to the mounting bracket.
The mounting bracket 2 in this embodiment has an inverted L-shaped cross-section with a vertically oriented leg 2a and a horizontally oriented leg 2b when the mounting bracket 2 is mounted to a ceiling or similar like construction. The leg 2b includes three mounting holes to mount the mounting bracket 2 to the ceiling, respectively referred to using reference symbols 11, 12 and 13. The mounting holes 11 and 12 are used to mount the profile support 3 as depicted in Figs. 1-4 to the mounting bracket 2 and the mounting bracket 2 to the ceiling. The mounting holes 12 and 13 are used to mount the mirror image of the profile support 3 as depicted in Figs. 1-4 to the mounting bracket 2 and the mounting bracket 2 to the ceiling at an opposite side of a roller blind,
The profile support 3 includes a clamping member 3a with holes 14 and 15 that can be aligned with holes 11 and 12 of the mounting bracket 2 (holes 12 and 13 of the mounting bracket 2 for the mirror-image of the profile support 3). By introducing an attachment member, e.g. a screw or bolt, through the holes 14, 15 of the profile support 3 and the corresponding mounting holes 11 and 12 of the mounting bracket, the main body of the profile support is clamped between the clamping member 3a and the mounting bracket thereby mounting the profile support 3 to the mounting bracket 2.
The clamping member 3a is moveable within a recess of the main body of the profile support 3 allowing to adjust a mounting position of the profile support 3 relative to the mounting bracket 2 in a direction X as indicated in Fig. 3.
The leg 2a of the mounting bracket 2 includes a protrusion 20 defining a rotation axis for a roller blind. In this embodiment, the vertical position of the protrusion 20 relative to the leg 2a is adjustable allowing to level the roller blind.
The vertical and the rotation axis for the roller blind define a plane PL indicated in Fig. 3 and extending perpendicular to the plane of drawing.
The profile support 3 has a distal end 3’ at a distance d1 of the plane PL. This distal end 3’ is provided with connection members, in this case snap connectors, to releasably connect a profile 4 thereto. The profile 4 includes a plate 4a with connection members at the top, in this case snap connectors matching with the snap connectors on the profile support 3.
At the bottom of the plate 4a a cable tray 4b is provided. The cable tray 4b is arranged at a roller blind side of the plate 4a. The plate 4a has dimensions such that it blocks a view towards the mounting bracket 2, profile support 3, and rod or tube of the roller blind supported by the mounting brackets 2. The profile 4 is in this embodiment thus a cover profile. The cable tray 4 extending in longitudinal direction of the profile allows to receive data and/or power cables and may even receive and support control components allowing for instance to control movement of a motorized roller blind and/or communicate with other roller blind control components.
By being able to adjust the mounting position of the profile support 3 relative to the mounting bracket 2 in the X-direction as indicated in Fig. 3, the distance d1 between distal end 3’ and thus the profile 4 on the one hand and the protrusion 20 or the rotation axis of the roller blind on the other hand can be set. To fix the mounting position of the profile support 3 relative to the mounting bracket 2, the profile support 3 includes a flange 3b extending parallel to leg 2a of the mounting bracket, which flange 3b is provided with an elongated hole 17 extending in X-direction of Fig. 3. The leg 2a of the mounting bracket 2 includes a threaded hole 16, clearly visible at the back of the leg 2a in
Fig. 2, to receive a threaded bolt end of a bolt 3c that allows to clamp the flange 3b of the profile support 3 to the leg 2a of the mounting bracket 2. This allows to fix the mounting position before the mounting bracket and profile support are mounted to a ceiling,
In this embodiment, the profile support 3 has a spacer 3d at a side of the mounting bracket opposite the distal end 3’. The spacer 3d includes sections of equal length that can be removed to set a desired length of the spacer 3d. The spacer 3d can be used during installation to easily determine a mounting position of the mounting bracket 2 relative to a window or other reference point. During installation, the fixation between the mounting bracket and profile support allows to easily mount the combination to the ceiling. Still, adjustments are possible during installation or even after installation.
Figs. 5 and 6 depict a practical embodiment using the roller blind system depicted in Figs. 1-4. Depicted are two windows A and B within a window frame 30 including three horizontal frame elements 31, 32, 33, an upper frame element 34 and a lower frame element (not shown).
Mounted to the upper frame element 34 for window A are two mounting brackets 2 as shown in Figs. 1-4 to support a first roller blind 40. The mounting bracket 2 at the left side of window A (i.e. the left side as depicted in Fig. 5) is configured as a first mounting bracket 2 to support a first end 41 of the roller blind 40. The mounting bracket 2 at the right side of window A (i.e. the right side as depicted in Fig. 5) is configured as a second mounting bracket 2 to support a second end 42 of the roller blind. Mounted to the first mounting bracket 2 is a first profile support 3 and mounted to the second mounting bracket 2 is a second profile support 3. The combination of first mounting bracket 2 and first profile support 3 is a mirror image of the combination of the second mounting bracket 2 and second profile support 3.
Mounted to the upper frame element 34 for window B are two mounting brackets 2 as shown in Figs. 1-4 to support a second roller blind 50. The mounting bracket 2 at the left side of window B (i.e. the left side as depicted in Fig. 5) is configured as a third mounting bracket 2 to support a first end 51 of the roller blind 50. The mounting bracket 2 at the right side of window B (i.e. the right side as depicted in Fig. 5) is configured as a fourth mounting bracket 2 to support a second end 52 of the roller blind. Mounted to the third mounting bracket 2 is a third profile support 3 and mounted to the fourth mounting bracket 2 is a fourth profile support 3. The combination of third mounting bracket 2 and third profile support 3 is a mirror image of the combination of the fourth mounting bracket 2 and fourth profile support 3.
In Fig. 5, the mounting brackets 2, profile supports 3 and upper portions of the roller blinds 40, 50 are clearly visible. To hide these, a profile 4 can be mounted to the profile supports 3 such that a single profile 4 is attached to the first, second, third and fourth profile support. This is shown in more detail in Fig. 6 which depicts a side view of the installed roller blind system of Fig. 5 including profile connected to the profile supports 3.
The profile supports 3 extend beyond the frame 30 allowing to connect the profile 4 in front of the frame 30 so that the profile 4 extends from the left side of window A to the right side of window B. The profile 4 includes the cable tray 4b that in turn also extends from the left side of window A to the right side of window B allowing to receive a power and/or data cable in order to connect the first roller blind 40 to the second roller blind 50 which is connection is easy to install and maintain but is out of sight.
Fig. 7 schematically depicts a side view of a roller blind system 1 according to another embodiment of the invention.
The roller blind system 1 comprises a mounting bracket 2 mounted to a top wall 101 of a cove 100 and supporting an end of a roller blind 40. A similar mounting bracket will be provided (not shown) to support an opposite end of the roller blind 40. Associated with the mounting bracket 2 is a profile support 3 mounted to the mounting bracket 2. The profile support 3 includes snap connections used to connect a profile 4 to the profile support 3. The snap connections define a substantially vertical connection and release direction of the profile 4 relative to the profile support 3. Allowing to connect the profile 4 to or release the profile 4 from the profile support 3 while the profile support 3 remains mounted to the mounting bracket 2 in the cove 100 with a sidewall 102 being relatively close to the profile 4.
In this embodiment, the profile support 3 includes a spacer 3d to be in engagement with a sidewall 103 of the cover 100 to set a predetermined distance between the profile support 3 and the sidewall 103.
The profile 4 includes a cable tray 4b extending in longitudinal direction of the profile 4 for receiving data and/or power cables, which longitudinal direction in Fig. 7 is perpendicular to the plane of drawing.
The roller blind system 1 in Fig. 7 is shown in an installed state in which the mounting bracket is mounted to the top wall 101 of the cove 100, wherein the top wall 101 functions as a ceiling element. Although not shown {also not in other Figs.}, the invention is not limited to be mounted to the ceiling only. It is also envisaged that the mounting bracket is configured to be mounted to a wall. The mounting bracket may for instance be configured to be mounted to sidewall 102 or sidewall 103 extending parallel to the roller blind 40, but alternatively or additionally be configured to be mounted to a sidewall extending perpendicular to the roller blind 40. The mounting bracket in the installed state supports one end of a roller blind, e.g. a motorized roller blind.
In the installed state, the profile support 3 is mounted to the mounting bracket 2 and the profile 4 is connected to the profile support 3.
An advantage of the roller blind support 1 of Fig. 7 is that the profile 4 can be disconnected and removed from the profile support 3 without having to remove the roller blind 40. The profile 4 is further configured such that the cable tray 4b is at least partially located below the roller blind 40 meaning that the roller blind 40 when rolled up on its rod or tube element is arranged at least partially above the cable tray 4b of the profile 4.
The mounting bracket 2 may be configured as a first mounting bracket or as a second mounting bracket and the roller blind system may include both a first mounting bracket and a second mounting bracket to support both ends of the roller blind 40.
The profile support 3 may be configured as a first profile support mountable to a first mounting bracket or a second profile support mountable to a second mounting bracket and the roller blind system may include both a first profile support and a second profile support to support the profile 4 at two different locations.
