Description

Title: A quick coupler and a construction machine comprising the quick coupler Description According to a first aspect, the present disclosure relates to a quick coupler for attaching a tool at a free side thereof to a construction machine such as an earth moving vehicle, wherein said tool comprises an attachment bracket with first and second parallel attachment pins.
According to a second aspect, the present disclosure relates to a construction machine comprising a quick coupler according to the first aspect of the present disclosure.
Quick couplers are used for connecting different tools to a construction machine such as an earth moving machine, for example an excavator, backhoe loader or a digger. By providing the construction machine with a quick coupler a driver may switch with relative low effort and relatively quickly between different tools, for example different buckets. The quick coupler is mounted directly on the construction machine or on an arm mounted tilt rotator which allows tool movement in all directions. It can also be integrated in the tilt rotator. The quick coupler has at a free side thereof a locking mechanism adapted to lock the tool, either mechanically or with a hydraulically controlled lock. The locking mechanism often comprises a solid grip and a locking wedge or locking pins which locks the tool around parallel pins attached to an attachment bracket.
WO 2013/048308 A1 discloses a quick coupler used for attaching a tool to an earth moving vehicle. This known quick coupler comprises locking segments having a non-circular cam surface that are rotatable about an axis for locking the tool. A drawback of this known quick coupler is that it may be improved as regards the robustness.
An objective of the present disclosure is to provide a quick coupler that is relative robust while allowing to realise locking of the tool in a relative safe way.
This objective is achieved by the quick coupler according to the first aspect of the present disclosure, wherein the quick coupler comprising a frame provided with a first receiving space arranged for receiving said first parallel attachment pin and a second receiving space arranged for receiving, via a receiving opening provided in said frame, said second parallel attachment pin, wherein said receiving opening is provided at a side of said second receiving space facing away from said first receiving space.
By providing the receiving opening at the side of the second receiving space facing away from the first receiving space, the tool may be lifted from a ground surface by the second parallel attachment pin before locking the tool to the quick coupler. This is beneficial for allowing for a relative safe locking of the tool to the quick coupler.
Preferably, the second receiving space comprises a cut-out in said frame. In this regard, it is beneficial if a dimension of said receiving opening is smaller than a dimension of said cut-out.
The quick coupler according to the present disclosure further comprises a movable locking arrangement comprising a first locking element and a second locking element and arranged for linearly translating said first locking element and said second locking element in opposite directions, wherein, in a locking position of said second locking element, said second locking element is arranged for blocking said second parallel attachment pin from moving, via said receiving opening, out of said second receiving space.
By providing the second locking element, the function of locking the second attachment pin in the receiving space and the function of transferring forces between the tool and the quick coupler are separated. This allows for realising a relative robust quick coupler while realising a relative safe and robust way of locking.
In addition, by arranging the first locking element and the second locking element for linear translation in opposite directions, a quick coupler having a relative robust locking mechanism is realised.
The present disclosure at least partly relies on the insight that providing locking elements arranged for a linear translation instead of a rotating movement allows for an improved robustness and reliability.
Providing the receiving opening at the side of the second receiving space facing away from the first receiving space allows for moving the second parallel attachment pin away from the receiving opening due to movement of the first locking element. This is beneficial for realising a relative robust coupling of the tool to the quick coupler.
Preferably, said first and second locking element, in said locking position of said first and second locking element, are, after coupling to said tool, provided at opposite sides of said first and second parallel attachment pins. This allows for realising a quick coupler wherein one of the first locking element and the second locking element is arranged for transferring forces between the tool and the quick coupler, whereas the other of the first locking element and the second locking element may be arranged for locking the tool in the corresponding receiving space. This is beneficial for allowing the other of the first locking element and the second locking element to be of a lighter construction than the one of the first locking element and the second locking element while realising a relative robust quick coupler that may be locked to a tool in a relative safe way. In an embodiment of the quick coupler according to the present disclosure, said second locking element, in said locking position, at least partly blocks said receiving opening for locking said second parallel attachment pin in said second receiving space. In this embodiment the second locking element is arranged such that the second locking element is moved through the receiving opening and thereby reduces the space available for entry of the second receiving space via the receiving opening. This is beneficial for realizing a relative robust quick coupler, in particular when the second receiving space is formed by a cut-out in the frame. It is beneficial if said first locking element is provided at a side of said first receiving space facing said free side and wherein said second locking element is provided at a side of said second receiving space facing away from said free side. This is beneficial for allowing the second locking element to be of a lighter construction than the first locking element while realising a relative robust quick coupler that may be locked to a tool in a relative safe way.
Preferably, in said locking position of said first and second locking element, said first locking element locks said first parallel attachment pin in said first receiving space when said second parallel attachment pin is received in said second receiving space.
It is advantageous if said quick coupler comprises an urging element arranged for urging said first locking element towards said locking position. Preferably, the urging element is spring. Providing an urging element is beneficial for realising that in case of a power malfunction of the quick coupler a locking of the tool to the quick coupler may be maintained.
In an embodiment of the quick coupler according to the present disclosure, said quick coupler comprises an actuator, preferably a hydraulic cylinder, arranged to move said movable locking arrangement between an unlocking position and said locking position, preferably wherein said actuator is provided in said frame.
Providing a hydraulic cylinder is in particular beneficial if the quick coupler is used in combination with a construction machine comprising hydraulics for operating the construction machine. The quick coupler may in this embodiment be coupled to the hydraulics of the construction machine.
In this regard, it is beneficial if said first locking element is attached to one of a piston rod end and a cylinder base of said hydraulic cylinder and said second locking element is attached to the other of said piston rod end and said cylinder base. This is beneficial for realising a relative robust quick coupler.
It is advantageous, if said quick coupler comprises a sliding arrangement arranged for allowing said actuator to slide relative to said frame.
In this regard it is beneficial, if said urging element is arranged to urge said sliding arrangement and said piston rod end away from each other.
In an embodiment of the quick coupler according to the present disclosure, said urging element is arranged for moving said first locking element into said locking position before moving said second locking element into said locking position and/or moving said second locking element into said unlocking position before 5 moving said first locking element into said unlocking position.
Preferably, said first locking element comprises two locking organs spaced apart from each other, wherein each of said two locking organs is arranged for said locking of said first parallel attachment pin in said first receiving space when said second parallel attachment pin is received in said second receiving space. This is beneficial for realising a relative robust and reliable quick coupler.
It is advantageous, if said first and second locking element are slidably arranged in said frame. This is beneficial for realising a relative robust and reliable quick coupler.
In an embodiment of the quick coupler according to the present disclosure, said quick coupler comprises a locking detection arrangement arranged for detecting that said first and second parallel attachment pins are locked respectively in said first and second receiving spaces. This is beneficial for realising a quick coupler that allows for a relative safe way of locking a tool to the quick coupler.
In an embodiment of the quick coupler according to the present disclosure, said lock detection arrangement comprises a locking indication device attached to said cylinder base and arranged for visually indicating that said first and second locking element are in said locking position. This is beneficial for realising a quick coupler with a relative reliable and robust detection arrangement.
It is advantageous, if said locking detection arrangement comprises a proximity sensor, preferably an inductive proximity sensor, arranged for detecting that said first and second parallel attachment pins are received respectively in said first and second receiving spaces. This is beneficial for applying the quick coupler in combination with a construction machine that is arranged for obtaining an output signal from the inductive proximity sensor for realising a relative safe application of the quick coupler only after it has been determined, based on the output signal, that the first and second attachment pins are provided respectively in the first and second receiving space.
According to the second aspect of the present disclosure, the present disclosure relates to a construction machine such as an earth moving vehicle comprising a quick coupler according to the first aspect of the present disclosure.
Embodiments of the quick coupler according to the first aspect of the present disclosure as presented above are also applicable to the construction machine according to the second aspect of the present disclosure, and vice versa.
Effects of the quick coupler according to the first aspect of the present disclosure as presented above correspond to or are similar to effects of the construction machine according to the second aspect of the present disclosure.
In an embodiment of the construction machine, the construction machine comprises a control unit, arranged for receiving the output signal from the inductive proximity sensors and further arranged for providing an output for warning an operator of the construction machine in case the first and second attachment pins are not locked respectively in the first and second receiving spaces.
In an embodiment of the construction machine, the construction machine comprises a control unit, arranged for receiving the output signal from the inductive proximity sensors and further arranged for blocking operation of a tool in case the first and second attachment pins of the tool are not locked respectively in the first and second receiving spaces.
The present disclosure will now be explained by means of a description of embodiments of a quick coupler in accordance to the first aspect and a construction machine in accordance to the second aspect, in which reference is made to the following figures, in which:
Fig. 1A shows a cross-sectional side view of a quick coupler in accordance to the first aspect of the present disclosure in an unlocking position; Fig 1B. shows a cross-sectional top view of the quick coupler of figure 1A.
Fig. 2A shows a cross-sectional side view of a quick coupler in accordance to the first aspect of the present disclosure in a locking position; Fig 2B. shows a cross-sectional top view of the quick coupler of figure 2A; Fig. 3 shows a construction machine in accordance to the second aspect of the present disclosure; Fig. 4A — 4D shows subsequent steps for attaching a tool to the quick coupler accordance to the first aspect of the present disclosure; Fig. 5 shows incorrect attachment of a tool to the quick coupler accordance to the first aspect of the present disclosure.
Figure 1 and 2 show a quick coupler 1 for attaching a tool 111 at a free side thereof to a construction machine 101. Referring to figure 3, the construction machine is a excavator 101, wherein the quick coupler 1 is mounted directly on the boom of the excavator 101. The tool 111, such as a bucket, comprises an attachment bracket with first and second parallel attachment pins 115, 117.
The quick coupler 1 comprises of a frame 3 provided with a first receiving space 5 arranged for receiving the first parallel attachment pin 115 of the tool 111 and a second receiving space 7 arranged for receiving, via a receiving opening 9 provided in the frame 3, the second parallel attachment pin 117 of the tool
111. The receiving opening 9 is provided at a side of the second receiving space 7 facing away from the first receiving space 5.
The quick coupler 1 further comprises a movable locking arrangement 11 comprising a first locking element 15 and a second locking element 17 which are slidably arranged in the frame 3. The first locking element 15 provided at a side of the first receiving space 5 facing the free side, and the second locking element 17 is provided at a side of the second receiving space 7 facing away from the free side. For moving the movable locking arrangement 11 into a locking position, the movable locking arrangement 11 is arranged for linearly translating the first locking element 15 in a direction D1 and the second locking element 17 in a direction D2, opposite to direction D1. For moving the movable locking arrangement 11 into a unlocking position, the movable locking arrangement 11 is arranged for linearly translating the first locking element 15 in direction D2 and the second locking element 17 in direction D1. The second locking element 17 comprises a single locking organ, arranged for blocking the second parallel attachment pin 117 from moving out of the second receiving space 7, when the second locking element 17 is in a locking position. The first lacking element 15 comprises two locking organs 15A, 15B spaced apart from each other, arranged for locking of the first parallel attachment pin 115 in the first receiving space 5 when the second parallel attachment pin 117 is received in the second receiving space 7. In the locking position of the first and second locking element 15, 17, after coupling to the tool 111, the first and second locking element 15, 17 are provided at apposite sides of the first and second parallel attachment pins 115,
117. The quick coupler 1 further comprises an urging element 31 arranged for urging the first locking element 15 towards the locking position. The urging element 31 comprises of two springs 33 spaced apart from each other. At one side, each spring 33 is connected to the frame 3 and at the other side each spring 33 is connected, via pen 35, to a base part 13 of the locking arrangement 11, wherein the pen 35 extends into the interior space enclosed by the spring 33.
The quick coupler 1 furthermore comprises a hydraulic cylinder 19 arranged to move the movable locking arrangement 11 between the unlocking position and the locking position. The hydraulic cylinder 19 is slidably provided in the frame 3 by means of sliding arrangement 25 fixed to the frame 3. The hydraulic cylinder 19 is allowed to slide relative to the frame 3 in the direction D2 towards bounding plane 41 of the frame 3, until outside end 45 of the hydraulic cylinder 19 coincides with bounding plane 41, as is shown in figure 2B. The sliding arrangement 25 further allows the hydraulic cylinder 19 to slide relative to the frame 3 in the direction D1 towards stopper 43 of the sliding arrangement 25, until an outside end of protrusion 47 provided on a cylinder base 23 of the hydraulic cylinder 19 bumps into stopper 43 of the sliding arrangement 25, as is shown in figure 2A. The first locking element 15 is attached, via the base part 13 of the locking arrangement 11, to a piston rod end 21 of the hydraulic cylinder 19. The second locking element 17 is attached to the cylinder base 23 of the hydraulic cylinder 19. For detecting and checking that the first and second parallel attachment pins 115, 117 are locked respectively in the first and second receiving spaces 5, 7, the quick coupler 1 is provided with a locking detection arrangement. For example, the locking detection arrangement comprises two locking indication device 27A, 27B. When the movable locking arrangement 11 is in the unlocking position, a red visual indication device 27B protrudes the frame 3 of the quick coupler 1, such that it is visible and noticeable for the driver of the construction machine 101. When the movable locking arrangement 11 is in the locking position, a green visual indication device 27A protrudes the frame 3 of the quick coupler 1, such that it is visible and noticeable for the driver of the construction machine 101.
Figures 4A — 4D show the subsequent steps of correct coupling the tool 111 to the quick coupler 1. In the figures, only the first and second parallel attachment pins 115, 117, relative to each other, of the tool 111 are shown.
In a first step, as shown in figure 4A, the quick coupler 1 is operated by the driver of the construction machine 101 such that the second receiving space 7 of the quick coupler 1 is moved towards the second parallel attachment pin 117. While the movable locking arrangement 11 is in the unlocking position, the quick coupler 1 is moved until the second parallel attachment pin 117 is received in the second receiving space 7.
In an subsequent step, as shown in figure 4B, the quick coupler 1 is operated such that the first receiving space 5 of the quick coupler 1 is moved towards the first parallel attachment pin 115, by pivoting the quick coupler 1 relative to the tool 111, until the first parallel attachment pin 115 is received in the first receiving space
5.
When the first parallel attachment pin 115 is received in the first receiving space 5 and the second parallel attachment pin 117 is received in the second receiving space 7, as shown in figure 4C, the movable locking arrangement 11 is moved from the unlocking position into the unlocking position by actuating the hydraulic cylinder 19.
The base part 13 of the movable locking arrangement 11 is continuously pushed by the springs 33 of the urging element 31 in the direction D1 towards the first receiving space 5. Due to the tension force produced by the springs 33, the protrusion 47 of the cylinder base 23 of the hydraulic cylinder 19 is pushed, in the unlocking position of the movable locking arrangement 11, against the stopper 43 of the sliding arrangement 25. When the hydraulic cylinder 19 is actuated, the tension force produced by the springs 33 causes the first locking element 15 to move into its locking position, while the second locking element 17 remains into its unlocking position. The piston rod end of the hydraulic cylinder 19 extends until the first locking element 15 is moved in its locking position, because the first locking element 15 is either pushed against the first parallel attachment pin 115, or the base part 13 of the movable locking arrangement 11 is pushed against the frame 3. Simultaneously with moving the first locking element 15 into the locking position, the red indication device 27Bis moved into the frame 3, such that it is not visible for the driver of the construction machine 101.
In the locking position of the first locking element 15, the hydraulic cylinder 19 is not maximally extended. As the hydraulic cylinder 19 is slidably arranged in the frame 3, the cylinder base end of the hydraulic cylinder 19 is moved in the direction D2 towards bounding plane 41 of the frame 3, when the hydraulic cylinder 19 is further actuated. Because the second locking element 17 is fixed to the cylinder base end of the hydraulic cylinder 19, the second locking element 17 is moved into its locking position, until the cylinder base end of the hydraulic cylinder 19 is pushed against the bounding plane 41 of the frame 3. Simultaneously with moving the second locking element 13 into the locking position, the green indication device 27A is moved to protrude the frame 3, such that it is visible for the driver of the construction machine 101 and the driver is noticed that both the first locking element 15 and the second locking element 17 are in the locking position.
As shown in figure 4D, the tool 111 is now correctly and safely coupled to the construction machine 101. The urging element 31 ensures safe and correct positioning of the first locking element 15, even in case of failure of for example the hydraulic cylinder 19.
In case of incorrect coupling of the tool 111 to the quick coupler 1, as shown in figure 5, the second locking element 17 operates as a mechanical safety to prevent that the tool 111 cannot fall off the quick coupler 1, as the second locking element 17 blocks the second parallel attachment pin 117 to move out of the second receiving space 7. The driver of the construction machine 101 can easily couple correctly the tool 111 to the quick coupler under safe and controlled conditions. For decoupling the tool 111 from the quick coupler 1, the hydraulic cylinder 19 is actuated for moving the piston rod into the cylinder base. Because of the urging element 31, the second locking element 17 is moved into its unlocking position, while the first locking element 15 is maintained in its locking position. Simultaneously, the green indication device 27A is moved into the frame 3. The cylinder base end of the hydraulic cylinder 19 is moved in the direction D1 until protrusion 47 of the hydraulic cylinder 19 is pushed against stopper 43. With the second locking element 17 in its unlocking position, the first locking element 15 is subsequently moved into its unlocking position as the hydraulic cylinder 19 is further actuated to an inserted position, until the outside end 45 of the hydraulic cylinder 19 is pushed against bounding plane 41 of the frame. Simultaneously, the red indication device 27B is moved to protrude out of the frame 3.
