Description
Promo product and method of manufacturing such a promo product The invention relates to a promo product comprising an envelope and within the envelope a sheet that is movable with reference to the envelope, and further comprising restriction means for arresting the sheet within the envelope. The inven- tion further relates to manufacturing such a promo product.
Promo products in the form of envelopes with letters con- tained therein are very well known. The letters may for in- stance originate from lotteries and promise for instance un- limited wealth and prosperity that one can gain at the expense of only a moderate amount of monthly payable money. Such enve- lopes may be written with information encouraging the person receiving the envelope to quickly open the envelope and read the information on the letter within the envelope. This is on- ly one of the examples that have been developed over time to attract the attention of the envelope’s receiver, and certain- ly not the most inventive one. There is a continuous need in- deed to attract the receiver’s attention, particularly also because in nowadays information society the time of any ad- dressee is sparse and it is difficult to have the addressee pay attention to that particular piece of information that the sender tries to get into the mind of the receiver/reader.
It is an object of the invention to provide an alterna- tive promo product which is capable to better attract the re- ceiver’s attention and to have the receiver take adequate no- tice of the information that the sender is trying to get through to the receiver.
According to the invention a promo product and a method of manufacturing such a product is proposed having the fea- tures of one or more of the appended claims.
In one aspect of the invention that relates to a promo product comprising an envelope and within the envelope a sheet which is movable with reference to the envelope, which product further comprises restriction means for arresting the sheet within the envelope, the additional features are provided that the restriction means comprise a series of bars provided at least in part within the envelope and a corresponding series of apertures that are provided in the sheet within the enve-
lope, wherein each bar individually protrudes into one of said apertures provided in the sheet, wherein each such bar is mov- able out of its corresponding aperture so as to release the sheet from a movement restriction imposed by such bar which is present when such bar reaches into its corresponding aperture. Appropriate (re-)positioning of all bars may thus fully re- lease the sheet from its arrested position within the enve- lope, and make movement of the sheet from within to a position outside of the envelope possible. The invention thrives on the human weakness to desire access to something which is con- cealed, that is the information on the sheet, which infor- mation cannot be readily accessed because the sheet is arrest- ed within the envelope in an initial position of the bars wherein the bars protrude into the apertures of the sheet.
The challenge is to appropriately position all bars so as to release the sheet from the envelope and make its movement from within to outside the envelope possible, so that the in- formation on the sheet can be read. Suitably therefore each bar of the series of bars is accessible from outside the enve- lope to enable handling of each of said bars.
Advantageously the envelope is provided with, preferably fingertip sized, cutouts in the envelope to enable manually engaging of the bars.
The purposes of the promo product of the invention are best achieved when each aperture of the series of apertures and each corresponding bar of the series of bars is individu- alized by providing each aperture and corresponding bar with an individual length dimension in a movement direction of the bars. This means that the bars must be moved to a prescribed and individualized extent in order to release the sheet and make its movement from within to outside the envelope possi- ble.
One thing and another is in a preferred embodiment real- ized wherein the envelope is provided with a series of windows matching in number with the number of bars, and that through each window at least part of a bar that individually corre- sponds with said window is visible through said windows. Through the windows the receiver of the envelope may get feed- back from the information that is viewable through the windows and that is provided on the bars. In connection therewith it is preferred that on the face of each bar readable information is provided, and that the combination of all bars holds an ac- cess code based on said readable information, wherein a posi- tion of the series of bars that makes said access code viewa- ble through the series of windows, corresponds to said bars being removed from their corresponding apertures so as to com- pletely release the sheet and enable its movement from within the envelope to a position outside of the envelope. Preferably therefore the envelope has an open side edge through which the sheet is movable so as to enable movement of the sheet to out- side of the envelope and enable reading information on the face of the sheet.
Advantageously the promo product is made from a blank in the form of a single piece of material, preferably paper, pro- vided with appropriate cutouts, score lines and fold lines.
Correspondingly the invention is also embodied in a meth- od of manufacturing a promo product according to the inven- tion, making use of a blank in the form of a single piece of material, comprising the steps of: providing cutouts in the blank; -providing first parts of the blank with glue; folding of the blank along a first fold line and en- gaging the glued first parts on an unglued and folded part of the blank; -providing a kiss-cut operation from one side of the folded blank to provide a sheet with apertures, and bars cor- responding with said apertures; providing second parts of the bank with glue; folding of the blank alone a second fold line and engag- ing the glued second parts with the remainder of the blank; -cleaning up the blank to provide the ready promo prod- uct.
The invention will hereinafter be further elucidated with reference to the drawing of an exemplary embodiment of an ap- paratus operating according to a prior art method and accord- ing to the method of the invention that is not limiting as to the appended claims.
In the drawing:
-figure 1 shows a promo product according to the inven- tion comprising an envelope and a sheet which is arrested in the envelope; -figure 2 shows the promo product of figure 1, wherein the sheet is released from the envelope; and -figure 3 shows a Plano of paper from which the promo product of figure 1 and figure 2 can be manufactured.
Whenever in the figures the same reference numerals are applied, these numerals refer to the same parts.
With reference to figure 1 and figure 2 the promo product 1 of the invention is shown. The promo product 1 is shown in figures 1 and 2 to comprise an envelope 2. The figures also show that there is a sheet 3 within the envelope 2. In figure 1 the sheet 3 is concealed and arrested within the envelope 2, and in figure 2 the sheet 3 is released from the envelope 2 and to a large extent moved from within to a position outside the envelope 2. This makes information on the sheet 3 availa- ble that the receiver of the envelope 2, for instance an over- weight patent attorney, has won €10, 000.
In order to release the sheet 3 from the envelope 2 par- ticular features are applied as discussed hereinafter.
Albeit that they are not operational in figure 2, this figure 2 shows best that the envelope 2 and sheet 3 are embod- ied with restriction means 4 for arresting the sheet within 3 the envelope 2. The restriction means 4 comprise a series of bars 5 provided at least in part within the envelope 2, and a corresponding series of apertures ¢ that are provided in the sheet 3 within the envelope 2. When the sheet 3 is concealed within the envelope 2 as shown in figure 1, each bar 5 indi- vidually protrudes into one of said apertures 6 provided in the sheet 3. By comparing figure 1 and figure 2 it is clear that each such bar 5 is movable out of its corresponding aper- ture 6 which releases the sheet 3 from a movement restriction imposed by any such bar 5, which is present when such bar 5 still would reach into its corresponding aperture 6. Hence it requires displacement of all bars 5 from their corresponding apertures 6 in the sheet 3 to enable movement of the sheet 3 to its position outside of the envelope 2 as shown in figure
2.
Both figure 1 and figure 2 show that each bar 5 of the series of bars is accessible from outside the envelope 2 to enable handling of each of said bars 5. For this purpose it is preferred that the envelope 2 is provided with, preferably 5 fingertip sized, cutouts 7 in the envelope 2 to enable manual- ly engaging of the bars 5.
A further feature is that each aperture 6 of the series of apertures and each corresponding bar 5 of the series of bars is individualized by providing each aperture 6 and corre- sponding bar 5 with an individual length dimension in a move- ment direction of the bars 5. The movement direction is indi- cated with arrows C.
Again with reference to both figure 1 and figure 2 it is shown that the envelope 2 is provided with a series of windows 8 matching in number with the number of bars 5, and that through each window 8 at least part of a bar 5 that individu- ally corresponds with said window 8 is visible through said windows 8. On the face of each bar 5 readable information is provided. In figure 1 the numbers 2 - 1 - 0 - 8 are readable, but these numbers do not represent a valid access code repre- senting a position of the bars 5 that would release the sheet 3 to move to a position outside of the envelope 2. Releasing the sheet 3 from its arrested position within the envelope 2 requires moving the bars 5 to a position as shown in figure 2 which reveals a valid access code 1 - 0 - 1 - 7, which are numbers from the postal code of the offices of the earlier mentioned patent attorney. Accordingly it is a feature of the invention that the combination of all bars 5 holds an access code based on said readable information, wherein a position of the series of bars 5 that makes said access code viewable through the series of windows 8, corresponds to said bars 5 being removed from their corresponding apertures 6 so as to completely release the sheet 3 and enable its movement from within the envelope 2 to a position outside the envelope 2.
Accordingly it is preferred that the envelope 2 has an open side edge 9 through which the sheet 3 is movable so as to ena- ble movement of the sheet 3 to outside of the envelope 2 and enable reading information on the face of the sheet 3.
Making now reference to figure 3 a blank 10 is shown from which the promo product 1 according to the invention can be manufactured. The blank 10 is in the form of a single piece of material, preferably paper, and in the manufacturing process the blank 10 will be provided with appropriate cutouts, score lines and fold lines.
In a first step cutouts 7, 8 are provided in the blank 10 that will, in the eventual promo product 1, enable access to the bars 5 and represent the windows 8 in the envelope 2, re- spectively. Next first parts II of the blank 10 are provided with glue, followed by folding of the blank 10 along a first fold line A and engaging the glued first parts with an unglued and folded part of the blank 10. Thereafter a kiss-cut opera- tion is executed from one side of the folded blank 10 to pro- vide the sheet 3 with apertures 6 and bars 5 corresponding with said apertures 6. The promo product 1 can then be com- pleted by providing second parts III of the bank 10 with glue, and folding of the blank 10 along a second fold line B and en- gaging the glued second parts with the remainder of the blank
10. Cleaning up the blank 10 then provides the ready promo product 1.
