Description
ABSORBING PAD The present invention concerns an absorbing pad, disposable package comprising the same, and an assembly of an absorbing pad and a piece of underwear Many users of underwear, such as men and boys, have difficulties in keeping their underwear dry and clean, for instance when exercising or when suffering from a bladder infection. A further issue that may occur for male users of underwear is the loss of semen at night, during the so called ‘wet dream”. Younger users, e.g. aged 5 years old, are often not yet very skilled in cleaning themselves after a visit to the toilet. These losses of fluids result in stains and wet spots, which are typically uncomfortable, may cause feelings of shame, and are difficult to remove thereafter such that the underwear is to be replaced sooner.
It is an object among objects of the present patent disclosure, to at least partially reduce the problem of wet and stained underwear and/or to elongate the time period for replacing a piece of underwear.
According to the present invention, in a first aspect, there is provided an absorbing pad for placement in underwear of a user, the absorbing pad comprising a top outer layer, a bottom outer layer and a liquid absorbing layer disposed between the top outer layer and the bottom outer layer, wherein the liquid absorbing layer is configured to absorb bodily fluids originating from the user, wherein the top outer layer is configured to be faced towards the user and to receive the bodily fluids, wherein the absorbing pad comprises a front end section configured to be positioned towards a front side of the user, a back end section opposite the front end section and an intermediate section connecting the front end section and the back end section, wherein a first width of the front end section is larger than a second width of the back end section, wherein a third width of the intermediate section is smaller than the second width.
In particular, the absorbing pad may be longer than known absorbing pads for women. For instance, for men, the length of the absorbing pad may be more than 21 cm.
In an embodiment, especially suited for when the user is a male user the front end section is configured to receive bodily fluids from a penis of the user.
In another embodiment, also suited for when the user is a male user, the bodily fluid sources of the user comprising a penis of the user, wherein the top outer layer comprises at least one protrusion for resisting movement of the penis with respect to the absorbing pad, when the absorbing pad is placed in the underwear of the male user. This embodiment avoids spillage of bodily fluids outside of the absorbing pad, due to movement of the penis. Preferably the at least one protrusion extends from the absorbing pad with a height of at least 2 mm, more preferably 3 mm, 4 mm or 5 mm.
Preferably, wherein the at least one protrusion is a plurality of rims or step edges. It has been found that these rims or step edges surprisingly provide sufficient friction for holding the penis in a suitable position.
More preferably, the plurality of rims or step edges is directed substantially in a lateral direction of the absorbing pad substantially perpendicular to a longitudinal direction of the absorbing pad. More surprisingly, when the direction of the rims or step edges is substantially in a movement direction of the penis, viz. in the lateral direction of the absorbing pad, it is found that the penis is held with an even greater probability in the proper position. This probability can reach as high as or even higher than about 90% for an average user while in a sleeping state.
In an embodiment, the front end section at the top outer layer thereof comprises the at least one protrusion, wherein the at least one protrusion is an edge protrusion positioned substantially around at least a part of a perimeter of the front end section. This outer rim embodiment may or may not be combined with the rims or step/edges, to keep the penis in a suitable position.
According to a further aspect, there is provided a disposable package comprising an {5 absorbing pad according to any one of the above embodiments.
According to yet another aspect, there is provided a disposable package comprising a first and a second absorbing pad for placement in underwear of a user, the absorbing pads each comprising a top outer layer, a bottom outer layer and a liquid absorbing layer disposed between the top outer layer and the bottom outer layer, wherein the liquid absorbing layer is configured to absorb bodily fluids originating from the user, wherein the top outer layer is configured to be faced towards the user and to receive the bodily fluids, wherein the disposable, wherein the first absorbing pad is larger than the second absorbing pad in at least one dimension, the at least dimension preferably being a width of the respective absorbing pads, wherein the first absorbing pad is configured to absorb bodily fluids originating from a penis of the user, wherein the second absorbing pad is configured to absorb bodily fluids originating from an anus of the male user.
According to a further aspect, there is provided an assembly of an absorbing pad as described in any one of the above aspects and a piece of underwear, wherein the absorbing pad is positioned such that it is capable of absorbing bodily fluids of a male user when the assembly is worn by the male user.
In a further aspect of the invention, there is provided an absorbing pad for placement in underwear of a user, the absorbing pad comprising a top outer layer, a bottom outer layer and a liquid absorbing layer disposed between the top outer layer and the bottom outer layer, wherein the liquid absorbing layer is configured to absorb bodily fluids originating from the user, wherein the absorbing pad comprises a front end section configured to be positioned towards a front side of the user, a back end section opposite the front end section and an intermediate section connecting the front end section and the back end section, wherein a first width of the front end section is smaller than a second width of the back end section, wherein a third width of the intermediate section is smaller than the second width, wherein the third width is larger than the first width.
This embodiment is especially suited for younger female users, such as in the age of 4-12 years old, who may not yet be very skilled in cleaning themselves after a visit to the toilet. For this reason, the back end section is somewhat broader than the front section and the middle section, since vaginal fluid losses are typically more uncommon in this age range.
Further embodiments and aspects are described below in the description of figures or in the claims, and the advantages thereof will be apparent to the skilled person after reading the present disclosure.
The accompanying drawings are used to illustrate presently preferred non-limiting exemplary embodiments of embodiments of the present disclosure. The above and other advantages of the features and objects of the disclosure will become more apparent and the aspects and embodiments will be better understood from the following detailed description when read in conjunction with the accompanying drawings, in which: Fig. 1 is a schematic top view of an embodiment of the absorbing pad according to the present invention; Fig. 2 is a schematic top view of an embodiment of a combination of two absorbing pads according to the present invention; Fig. 3 is a schematic top view of an embodiment of an absorbing pad for receiving bodily fluids from a penis of a user according to the present invention; Fig. 4 is a schematic top view of another embodiment of an absorbing pad for receiving bodily fluids from a penis of a user according to the present invention; Fig. 5 is a schematic top view of yet another embodiment of an absorbing pad for receiving bodily fluids from a penis of a user according to the present invention; Fig. 6 is a schematic top view of another embodiment of an absorbing pad suitable for young male users according to the present invention; and Fig. 7 is a schematic partial cross section view of an embodiment of an absorbing pad for according to the present invention.
In Fig. 1 is shown an absorbing pad 100 for placement in underwear of a user. The absorbing pad 100 comprises a front end section 109 configured to be positioned towards a front side of the user, a back end section 106 opposite the front end section and an intermediate section 108 connecting the front end section 109 and the back end section 106. A first width 149 of the front end section 109 is larger than a second width 146 of the back end section 106. A third width 148 of the intermediate section 108 is preferably smaller than the second width 146. The widths 146, 148 and 149 are here the widths of the respective broadest parts of the sections 106, 108 and
109. It is also possible to refer to the third width 148 as the smallest width of the intermediate section 108, since the intermediate section 108 can be seen as a neck.
As is shown in Fig. 7, the absorbing pad 700 comprises a top outer layer 702, a bottom outer layer 706 and a liquid absorbing layer 706 disposed between the top outer layer 702 and the bottom outer layer 704. The liquid absorbing layer 706 is configured to absorb bodily fluids originating from the user. The top outer layer 702 is configured to be faced towards the user and to receive the bodily fluids.
Optionally, the absorbing pad 700 comprises an adhesive layer 708 disposed at least partially on the bottom outer layer 704. The adhesive layer 708 may be used to at least temporarily attach the absorbing pad 700 to a piece of underwear of a user. The absorbing pads according to the other figures, such as pad 100, 200, 300, 400, 500 and 600 may have the same or a similar build up of layers as the pad 700.
The absorbing pad 700 may be configured such that the top layer 702 is comprised of any one or more of polyethylene fibres, polypropylene fibres, polyester fibres and cotton fibres, wherein preferably the top layer 702 is impregnated with skin compatible cream and/or oil.
A thickness 710 of the absorbing pad may be in the range of 3 mm to 30 mm, preferably 3 mm to 20 mm, more preferably 3 to 10 mm. The top layer 702 may have a thickness 712 in the range of 0.5 to 5 mm, preferably 1 to 4 mm. The absorbing layer 706 may have a thickness 716 of 1-20 mm. The bottom layer 704 may have a thickness 714 in the range of 0.5-5 mm.
The liquid absorbing layer 706 may be comprised of cellulose fibres and/or super absorbing polymer granules and/or fibres.
The pad 700 may further comprise a liquid impermeable layer between the bottom outer layer and the liquid absorbing layer, or the bottom outer layer 704 may be the liquid impermeable layer. The liquid impermeable layer may be comprised of any one or more of silicone paper, polyethylene fibres and polypropylene fibres.
Referring again to Fig. 1, optionally, in an embodiment for a male user, the intermediate section 108 does not comprise any absorbing layer such as absorbing layer 706, since in this section the male user has no need for absorbing material due to lack of release of bodily fluids between the penis and the anus of the user.
Particularly suitable for male users, the front end section 109 is configured to receive bodily fluids from a penis of the user. To this end, the width 149 of the section 109 is the widest part of the absorbing pad 100, since in this region there is the largest chance of release of bodily fluids, such as urine and semen.
The absorbing pad 100 in this embodiment at the top outer layer thereof comprises three edges or rims 110, 120, 130. These edges or rims 110, 120, 130 have the advantage of providing resistance of movement of the penis with respect to the absorbing pad 100, when the absorbing pad is placed in the underwear of the male user and in use. This increases the chance of the absorbing pad 100 absorbing the bodily fluids released from the penis.
The edges 110, 120 and 130 are directed substantially in a lateral direction of the absorbing pad 100. This lateral direction is substantially perpendicular to a longitudinal direction of the 5 absorbing pad. The longitudinal direction is substantially along the arrow 140, indicating the length of the absorbing pad 100. The edges are here curved compared to the longitudinal direction, the middle part of the edges 110, 120, 130 being positioned more towards the back end section 106 than the side parts of the edges 110, 120, 130 close to the edge of the absorbing pad 100.
The rims or edges 110, 120 and 130 may protrude from the general surface of the top outer layer of the pad 100 with a height of at least 2 mm, more preferably 3 mm, 4 mm or 5 mm.
Alternatively, it is also possible that the rims are formed by the region 111 of the section 109 ending at edge 110, and thereafter region 121 has a lower height than the region 111. The edge 120 may accordingly be formed at an junction between the regions 121 and 131, whereas the edge 130 may be at a junction between regions 131 and 132. At the corresponding edges, the region 132 may be lower than the region 131, the region 131 may be lower than the region 121, and the region 121 may be lower than the region 111.
The length 140 may lie in the range of 20-25 cm, such as 22.5 cm, depending on the sizing of the pad 100. A first size is indicated by the line marked with 104, while a somewhat larger size is indicated with the line marked with 102. The region between lines 102 and 104 may also be a region that is thinner than the inner region within the line 104, since less fluid may need to be absorbed in these edge regions.
In Fig. 2 is shown a combination 200 of two separate absorbing pads 210 and 230. The first absorbing pad 210 is configured for receiving bodily fluids from a penis of the user, while the second absorbing pad 230 is configured to be placed opposite the anus of the user for receiving bodily fluids comprising faeces, in order to avoid stains in the underwear of the user. Compared to the pad 100, the intermediate section 108 is not present, since it is not always necessary for men and servers generally to connect the sections 106 and 109.
The first absorbing pad 210 be larger than the second absorbing pad 230 in at least one dimension, the at least dimension preferably being a respective width 222 and 242 of the respective absorbing pads 210 and 230. For the first pad 210 there are several sizes indicated by lines 211-
214. Line 211 indicates a smallest size, while line 214 indicates a largest size. A length 220 of the first pad 210 may be 9 cm. The width 222 may be 12 cm.
The second pad 230 has a first region 232 wherein the absorbing layer is somewhat thicker to increase the absorptive capacity of the second pad 230 relative to a second region 234 surrounding the first region 232. The width 242 of the second pad 230 may be 3.5 cm, while the length 240 may be 11 cm.
Referring to Fig. 3, there is shown an absorbing pad 300 which may be part of a combination such as combination 200. The pad 300 is for absorbing bodily fluids from a penis of the user. The pad 300 comprises at the top outer layer thereof a protrusion 310, formed as an edge arranged substantially around at least a part of a perimeter 302 of the pad 300. The edge 310 is shaped to avoid movement of the penis of the user. The length 310 of the pad 300 may be 16 cm, while the middle width 312 may be 7 cm and the smallest end width 313 may be 4.5 cm. The broadest width 311 may be 11 cm. The pad 300 is especially suitable to be used at night.
In Fig. 5 is shown a pad 500 which is configured to be used in the day time. The pad 500 also comprises a protrusion 510, similar to the protrusion 310. The pad 500 may have a smaller IO surface area for receiving bodily fluids than the pad 300.
In Fig. 4 is shown an absorbing pad 400, similar to pad 210, having varying thicknesses for changing the absorbing power in regions 402-404. Region 402 is thicker than region 403, and region 403 is thicker than the region 404. The pad 400 may furthermore broaden from a back edge 410 to a front edge 412. The width 414 at or near the front edge 412 may be about 13 cm, while the width 416 at or near the back edge 410 may be about 4.5 cm.
Fig. 6 shows an absorbing pad 600 especially suitable for younger male users, such as younger than 12 years old. The pad 600 comprises decorations 602, which may be implemented as footballs. The absorbing pad 600 comprises a front end section 609 configured to be positioned towards a front side of the user, a back end section 606 opposite the front end section and an intermediate section 608 connecting the front end section 609 to the back end section 606. A first width 619 of the front end section 609 is larger than a second width 616 of the back end section
606. A third width 618 of the intermediate section 608 is preferably smaller than the second width
616. The widths 616, 618 and 619 are here the widths of the respective broadest parts of the sections 606, 608 and 609. It is also possible to refer to the third width 618 as the smallest width of the intermediate section 608, since the intermediate section 608 can be seen as a neck portion. There is further shown a first region 605 and a second region 604, wherein the first region 605 may be thicker than the second region 604, since the first section 605 is in a position where more fluids are to be absorbed, when in the pad 600 is in use.
