Abstract
The present invention relates to a tray and more particularly, to a tray for transferring drinkware. The present invention is in the field of a device for carrying drinking glasses, wherein the device comprises at least one plate, where through openings are provided, in which drinking glasses can be placed. These drinking glasses are maintained in their position by their own circumference.
Description
Tray for transferring drinkware
FIELD OF THE INVENTION The present invention relates to a tray and more particularly, to a tray for transferring drinkware.
BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION Such a tray is known from DE 20 2008 006 993 Ul that discloses a device for carrying drinking glasses, wherein the device comprises at least one plate, where through openings are provided, in which drinking glasses can be placed. These drinking glasses are maintained in their position by their own circumference. The tray has at least two opposite handles to carry the tray.
Two hands are required to carry such a tray. As these trays are often used in crowded environments, such as terraces, restaurants, festival terrains, etc., the person carrying the tray has no way to use his arms and hands to prevent incidental collisions of bystanders and the tray itself, resulting in spilled drinks and broken drinkware. As a result also elaborate cleaning action is required typically.
Stemware, such as wineglasses, champagne glasses, and glasses for specialty beer and craft beer having a stem, are particularly vulnerable and unstable. A tray according to the prior is not suited to carry such stemware. The stemware has to be placed on top of the tray, increasing a risk for spillage, or carried by hand. Neither of these options are desired.
Some documents recite trays for drinkware. For instance, US 2015/182054 Al recites a tray for carrying a limited number of wine glasses only, US 6 964 443 Bl recites a stackable beverage holding device without a handle, US 2014/339115 Al recites an irregular shaped stemware holder for receiving wine glasses without a handle, US 2010/230419 Al recites a single purpose food and drink tray which cannot be stacked, US D 326 588 S1 shows a flat circular tray for receiving one wine glass and one beer glass, and CH 238 700 A shows a table support for receiving a limited number of stamps.
The objective of the present invention is to provide a multipurpose tray, and more particular a tray for transferring drinkware which solves one or more of the above problems and drawbacks of the prior art, providing reliable results, being 40 easy in use, providing good stability when placed on a surface,
without jeopardizing functionality and advantages.
SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION In accordance with the present invention, there is provided a tray for transferring drinkware, which can be used for a large variety of drinkware, is stable, can be stacked, and improves logistics. The present tray comprises a tray body 2 comprising an upper surface 3, an opposing lower surface 4, and an outer edge 5, one handle 6 that is attached to the lower surface 4 of the tray body 2, at least one openings 7, wherein the at least one opening 7 is fully enclosed and extends in a direction from the upper surface 3 to the lower surface 4 through the tray body 2, wherein the outer edge 5 comprises at least one inwardly extending edge part 8 that delimits an at least partly enclosed area 9 with an access opening 10 defined by two opposing parts 11 of said outer edge 5, wherein the total number of openings 7 and the at least one inwardly extending edge part 8 is at least 4, wherein the total number of openings 10 and inwardly extending edge parts 8 is at least three, wherein each opening 7 is at the lower surface 4 provided with at least one support 21, extending beyond the lower surface 4 towards an outer end of the at least one support, in a direction from the upper surface 3 to the lower surface 4, the at least one supports at the outer end 211 being connected by to an opening support bottom 22, wherein the at least one supports 21 and opening support bottom 22 are adapted to receive drinkware, wherein each enclosed area 9 is at the lower surface 4 provided with at least one support 21, such as a circular support, such as each individually two, three, or four supports, extending beyond the lower surface 4 towards an outer end of the support, in a direction from the upper surface 3 to the lower surface 4, the at least one support at the outer end 211 being connected to an enclosed area support bottom 23 comprising a outer bottom edge 231, wherein the outer bottom edge 231 comprises at least one inwardly extending outer bottom edge part 231 that delimits an at least partly enclosed bottom area 233 with a bottom access opening 232 defined by two opposing bottom parts 234 of said outer bottom edge 231, and wherein a bottom 6a of the handle and at least two opening support bottoms 22 are in a same plane and substantially parallel to said plane, i.e. at least four pieces of drinkware 40 can be carried, and typically up to 20 pieces.
Advantageously, the outer edge of the tray body comprises at least one inwardly extending part that delimits an at least partly enclosed area with an access opening defined by two opposing parts of said outer edge. A stem of stemware, such as wineglasses, champagne glasses, cocktail glasses, liqueur glasses, glasses for specialty beers or craft beer having a stem, and other stemware can be moved through the access opening and thereafter lowered. Typically a point is reached where a diameter of the stemware is larger than a diameter of the partly enclosed area, and in such a situation the stemware resides in a stable position in the partly enclosed area. These partly enclosed areas are still also suited to carry other types of drinkware, such as beakers, cups, beer glasses, and soda glasses, despite having an access opening.
The tray body comprises a handle that is attached to the lower surface of the tray body, which allows the tray to be carried single handedly. In this way one hand of a person carrying the tray is available to prevent incidental collisions between the tray and bystanders.
DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF THE INVENTION Preferably, the handle 6 of the tray 1 may be a hollow protrusion 6 that extends from the tray body 2 in a direction from the upper surface 3 to the lower surface 4, wherein an interior 12 of the hollow protrusion 6 may be accessible from the upper surface 3. This hollow protrusion 6 has a dual function as a handle 6 to be able to carry the tray 1 single handedly and as a reservoir for holding items such as cocktail sticks, dental picks, napkins, cutlery, such as spoons, forks, and knives, stirrers, sugar bags, salt bags, creamer, money and other items.
In a preferred embodiment of the present tray the handle 6 of the tray 1 may be tapered in a direction from the upper surface 3 to the lower surface 4. A tapered handle 6 allows items placed in the handle 6 to remain upright, making it easier to take the items out of the handle 6.
In a preferred embodiment of the present tray the handle 6 may have a cylindrical shape. A cylindrically shaped handle is easy to hold with one hand, and has an ideal form to hold elongated items, such as stirrer bars, spoons and the like.
40 In a preferred embodiment the present tray body 2 maycomprise an arm support part 13 located adjacent to the outer edge 5 of the tray body 2, wherein said arm support part 13 may be recessed in a direction from the lower surface 4 towards the upper surface 3, or inwardly from the outer edge 5, or a combination thereof. As the tray 1 may be designed to be carried with one hand, an arm support part 13 is particularly advantageous as 1t increases the stability of the tray 1 while it rests on a person's arm. The arm support part 13 may be elevated above the upper surface 3 of the tray 1, such that it follows the contours of a person's arm, resulting in a stable configuration of arm and tray 1.
In a preferred embodiment of the present tray the arm support part 13 may be free of any openings 7 and inwardly extending parts 8.
In a preferred embodiment of the present tray the tray body 2 may comprise a grip 131 provided at the outer edge 5 of the tray body 2 for holding the tray 1, wherein the grip 131 is optionally reinforced.
In a preferred embodiment of the present tray the total number of openings 7 and the at least one inwardly extending part 8 may be at least 4, preferably 4 to 25, more preferably 8 to 20, such as 10 to 18, and most preferably 15. A total of 5 openings 7 and 3 inwardly extending parts 8 results in a tray 1 having a balanced distribution of openings able to receive varying drinkware, apart from stemware and inwardly extending parts 8 able to receive varying drinkware including stemware.
In a preferred embodiment of the present tray the access opening 10 may have a width of at least 10 mm, preferable 10 to 35 mm, more preferably 15 to 30 mm, such as 20 to 25 mm, and most preferably about 22 mm. The access opening 10 should be large enough to provide access for stemware, but small enough to retain stemware once the stemware is lowered to a resting position wherein a part of the stemware above the stem rests on the inwardly extending part 8. A width of 22 mm provides a good balance between support for the stemware, as well as easy access of the stemware to the partly enclosed area 9.
In a preferred embodiment of the present tray the openings 7 and/or the inwardly extending part 8 of the tray 1 may have a diameter of 30 to 90 mm, more preferably 40 to 80 mm, such as 50 40 to 70 mm, and most preferably about 59 mm. A diameter of 59 mmis a diameter that corresponds to a wide variety of commonly used drinkware. But other diameters are also possible, depending on the types of drinkware utilized in conjunction with the tray
1.
5 In addition a heart-heart distance from adjacent openings/inward extending parts may be from 60-100 mm, preferably 70-90 mm, such as 75-80 mm.
In a preferred embodiment of the present tray the outer edge 5 and/or the openings 7 and/or the inwardly extending part 8 of the tray body 2 may comprise a rim 14 perpendicular to the lower surface 4 extending in a direction from the upper surface 3 to the lower surface 4. Such a rim 14 adds stiffness to the tray body 2, which increases the stability of the tray 1. When the tray 1 is loaded with drinkware filled with drinks, additional stiffness is particularly advantageous. Moreover, a rim 14 is an efficient way to use a small amount of material to provide a high degree of stiffness to the tray body 2.
In a preferred embodiment of the present tray at least one outer edge of the opening support bottom 22 and/or the enclosed area support bottom 23 may comprise a rim 214 perpendicular to the support bottom 22,23 extending in a direction from of the at least one support 21.
In a preferred embodiment of the present tray the tray 1 may be made of a material, wherein the material is selected from the group comprising thermoplastic materials, such as acrylonitrile butadiene styrene (ABS), polyvinylchloride (PVC), polypropylene (PP), polyethylene (PE), celloids, epoxy resins, polysulfones, teflon (PTFE), polymethyl metacrylate (PMMA), and polylactic acid (PLA), thermosetting materials, such as polyester resins, polyurethanes, polyurea/polyurethane hybrids, vulcanized rubber, bakelite, duroplast, melaine resin, diallyl phthalate (DAP), benzoxazines, polyimides, bismaleimides, silicone resins, thiolyte, vinyl esters, wood, a wood based material, a metal, a metal alloy, and combinations thereof.
In a preferred embodiment of the present tray the tray 1 may be an injection molded tray 1. Injection molding is a suitable way to provide a tray 1 having a complex form of sufficient strength to enable the tray 1 to transfer filled or empty drinkware.
40 In a preferred embodiment of the present tray the tray 1 mayhave a width between 15 to 60 cm, preferably a width between 20 and 50 cm, such as a width between 30 and 40 cm, most preferably a width of about 32 cm, and/or a length between 20 and 50 cm, such as a length between 30 and 40 cm, most preferably a length of about 32 cm, and/or a height between 2 and 20 cm, preferably a height between 5 and 15 cm, such as a height between 8 and 12 cm, most preferably a height of about 10 cm. A width of about 32 cm and a length of about 32, enables carrying of approximately 8 pieces of drinkware, which encompasses most drink orders and is still quite manageable single handedly. A height of about 10 cm ensures that the handle 6 is of sufficient length to ensure a secure engagement with a person's hand.
In a preferred embodiment of the present tray the tray body 2 may have a form selected from the group comprising a circle, a polygon, such as a triangle, a quadrilateral, such as a square, a rectangle, a diamond and a trapezoid, a pentagon, a hexagon, an ellipsoid, and combinations thereof.
In a preferred embodiment of the present tray the outer edge 5 of the tray body 2 may have a wave-like form. The wave-like form ensures minimal usage of materials, resulting in a visually attractive, low-cost tray 1.
In an exemplary embodiment of the present tray an upper surface and/or lower surface and optionally the edge may be provided with an image, preferably a continuous image, such as a symbol, a flag, and/or wherein the tray may have a color, and combinations thereof.
In a preferred embodiment the present tray at least one of the openings 7 and the inwardly extending edge part 8 may have at least three edge projections projecting to a center point 15, wherein the edge projections are preferable distributed at equal distance from one and another. These projections limit the contact area of the drinkware and an edge of the opening and/or the inwardly extending edge part 8. By limiting the contact area unwanted sticking of the drinkware to the tray 1 is prevented and drinkware can easily be placed in the tray 1 and removed from the tray 1.
In an exemplary embodiment of the present tray all inwardly extending edge parts 8 are arranged adjacent to each other, which is found beneficial in terms of logistics and serving 40 drinks.
Further benefits and advantages of the present invention will become apparent after a careful reading of the detailed description with appropriate reference to the accompanying drawings.
