The invention relates to mobile land rigs, i.e. rigs mounted on a mobile truck or trailer, such that they can be moved easily between oil fields, and between the wells of a field. Typically, the rig is configured to be operated from the truck or trailer and thus requires a minimum or set up time, which further reduces down time due to transportation or the rig between wells.

Semi mobile rigs are rigs which, to be transported, are to be completely dismantled such that 10 the different components, parts of the mast, the drawworks, etc. can be transported separately by a caravan of trucks. Once arrived at the destination, elaborate construction is required prior to the rig being operable.Semi mobile rigs are rigs which are transported, are completely dismantled, such that the different components, parts of the mast, the drawworks, etc. can be transported separately by a caravan or trucks. Once arrived at the destination, elaborate construction is required prior to the rig being operable.

The difference between the mobile rigs and semi mobile rigs is mainly the size and capacity of the mast and drawworks. Mobile rigs are typically deployed for a short period of time, i.e. a few days to a few weeks, and for work on many wells in an oil field. Large ones will be on a site from a few weeks to many months. For the road vehicle to be able travel roads, in particular the width of the road vehicle is limited. For the road vehicle to be able to travel roads, in particular the width of the road vehicle is limited.

This in combination with the need for transporting the derrick mast in a horizontal position makes that the road vehicles typically comprise an elongated chassis of considerable length. Since the rig is operated from the road vehicle, positioning the elongated chassis is an important factor when the land rig is to be set up at a well. In particular when the freedom of movement of the road vehicle relative to the well is limited, for example due to the proximity of the well to other wells and/or the oil field infrastructure in the form of x-mas trees, above ground pipelines, etc., positioning the derrick mast with its firing line centered with the well is difficult and thus time consuming, or even impossible. This in combination with the need for transporting the derrick mast in a horizontal position makes the road vehicles typically include an elongated chassis or considerable length. It is an object of the invention to provide a mobile land rig in which the above mentioned drawbacks are eliminated altogether or occur in a greatly reduced extent. In particular it is an object of the invention to provide an improved mobile land rig, more in particular a land rig configured to facilitate positioning the firing line above a well, in particular in situations in which the movability of the road vehicle is restricted, for example by the wells located close to each other, oil field infra structure such as x-mas trees, above ground pipelines, etc.It is an object of the invention to provide a mobile land rig in which the aforementioned drawbacks are eliminated altogether or occur in a greatly reduced extent. According to the present invention, this object is achieved by designing a mobile land rig according to claim 1.According to the present invention, this object has been achieved by designing a mobile land rig according to claim 1.

The road vehicle of a mobile land rig according to the invention comprises a derrick unit, which derrick unit is located at the rear end of the chassis, and which derrick unit comprises the erectable derrick mast, the drill floor mount for supporting a drill floor, and a drawworks platform that supports the drawworks. The road vehicle of a mobile land rig according to the invention comprises a derrick unit, which derrick unit is located at the rear end of the chassis, and which derrick unit comprises the erectable derrick mast, the drill floor mount for supporting a drill floor, and a drawworks platform that supports the drawworks.

i.e. the erectable derrick mast, the drill floor mount, and the drawworks platform, gets rotated about an vertical rotation axis, which vertical rotation axis is substantially parallel to the firing line when the derrick mast is in the working position, and which vertical rotation axis is spaced relative to the firing line, such that by pivoting the derrick unit about the vertical rotation axis, the firing line can be moved along a curved trajectory having the vertical rotation axis as its centre.ie the erectable derrick mast, the drill floor mount, and the drawworks platform, gets rotated about an vertical rotation axis, which vertical rotation axis is substantially parallel to the firing line when the derrick mast is in the working position, and which vertical rotation axis is spaced relative to the firing line, such that by pivoting the derrick unit about the vertical rotation axis, the firing line can be moved along a curved trajectory having the vertical rotation axis as its center.

By combining the derrick mast, drawworks and drill floor mount in a derrick unit that is rotatable mounted on the elongated chassis, the invention allows for moving the firing line of the derrick mast relative to the elongate chassis of the road vehicle, which allows for positioning the firing line relative to the well without moving the road vehicle. Thus, positioning the road vehicle relative to the well is less critical, which reduces the time needed to set up the rig. Furthermore, the rotatable mounted derrick unit increase the reach of the rig, such that the elongated chassis can be set up at more extreme angles relative to a well, in some embodiments even allows for a set up in which the longitudinal axis of the elongate chassis extends parallel to a row of wells. Thus, the mobile land rig according to the invention can be used in oil fields having a limited space for movement of the road vehicle, i.e. oil fields with multiple wells located close to each other and/or oil field infra-structure such as above ground piping etc. that limits freedom of movement of the road vehicle.By combining the derrick mast, drawworks and drill floor mount in a derrick unit that is rotatable mounted on the elongated chassis, the invention allows for moving the firing line of the derrick mast relative to the elongate chassis or the road vehicle, which allows for positioning the firing line relative to the well without moving the road vehicle. Thus, positioning the road vehicle relative to the well is less critical, which reduces the time needed to set up the rig. Preferably the mobile land rig further comprises a top drive, a mechanical device for providing torque to a drill string supported in the firing line, and/or for tripping tubulars, i.e. combining and separating tubulars. A top drive is typically moveable supported at the front side of the derrick mast, and can be moved along the mast, and thus along the firing line, using the draw works.Preferably the mobile land rig further comprises a top drive, a mechanical device for providing torque to a drill string supported in the firing line, and / or for tripping tubulars, i.e. combining and separating tubulars. A top drive is typically moveable supported on the front side of the derrick mast, and can be moved along the mast, and thus along the firing line, using the draw works.

In most cases, a mobile land rig for drilling and/or servicing a well will be deployed in combination with a mobile tubular handling device. These mobile tubular handling devices are known in the state of the art and comprise a road vehicle that is provided with a tubular storage, for example a drilling pipe storage, in combination with a tubular delivery device, for example a lift arm, configured for positioning tubulars in a firing line.In most cases, a mobile land rig for drilling and / or servicing a well will be deployed in combination with a mobile tubular handling device. The invention furthermore provides a well drilling and/or servicing set, the set comprising a mobile land drilling and/or servicing rig and a mobile tubular handling device. In a preferred embodiment, the mobile rig and the mobile tubular handling device are configured to be set up on opposite sides of a well. In a further preferred embodiment, both are configured to be connected, i.e. temporarily fixed, to each other to provide a superstructure with increased rigidity for supporting torque loads during operation. The invention furthermore provides a well drilling and / or servicing set, the set including a mobile land drilling and / or servicing rig and a mobile tubular handling device. In a further preferred embodiment, both are configured to be connected, i.e. temporarily fixed, to each other to provide a superstructure with increased rigidity for supporting torque loads during operation.

Typically, mobile land rigs are provided with stabilisers to provide a stable working platform, i.e. to support the vehicle in a lifted working position. Stabilisers are provided in many forms, for example in the form of outriggers in which the stabiliser leg is positioned away from the vehicle to provide additional stability.Typically, mobile land rigs are provided with stabilizers to provide a stable working platform, i.e. to support the vehicle in a lifted working position. Stabilizers are provided in many forms, for example in the form of outriggers in which the stabilizer leg is positioned away from the vehicle to provide additional stability.

In an embodiment of a mobile land rig according to the invention, the chassis has at its rear end a stabiliser, which stabiliser is configured to support the rear end of the chassis in a lifted support position, and which stabiliser is slideable connected to the chassis such that the chassis, while supported in the lifted support position, can be moved relative to the stabiliser, preferably in a direction substantially perpendicular to the longitudinal axis of the chassis. In an embodiment of a mobile land rig according to the invention, the chassis has a rear end stabilizer, which stabilizer is configured to support the rear end of a chassis in a lifted support position, and which stabilizer is slideable connected to the chassis Such that the chassis, while supported in the lifted support position, can be moved relative to the stabilizer, preferably in a direction substantially perpendicular to the longitudinal axis of the chassis.

Thus, the chassis, and therefore the firing line, can be moved relative to the wellThus, the chassis, and therefore the firing line, can be moved relative to the well

In a preferred embodiment, the stabiliser is configured such that it can be moved relative to the elongate frame, more in particular such that the supported elongated frame can be moved relative to the stabiliser, in a direction perpendicular to the longitudinal axis of the elongate chassis. Such a configuration is in particular advantageous when combined with a derrick unit that can be rotated such that the firing line is located at the side of the elongate vehicle. The stabiliser allows for moving the elongate chassis sideways, and thus to move the firing line towards and away from the well. This, in combination with a rotatable mounted derrick unit according to the invention greatly improve the possibility to fine tune the position of the firing line relative to the well, while the chassis is in its supported working positon. In a preferred embodiment, the stabilizer is configured such that it can be moved relative to the elongate frame, more in particular such that the supported elongated frame can be moved relative to the stabilizer, in a direction perpendicular to the longitudinal axis of the elongate chassis . This, in combination with a rotatable mounted derrick unit according to the invention greatly improve the possibility of fine tune the position of the firing line relative to the well, while the chassis is in its supported working positon.

It is noted that positioning the firing line relative to the well while the chassis is in the lifted support position is more efficient than positioning the firing line only by moving the chassis back and forth since the subsequent lifting of the chassis into the lifted working position may move the firing line off centre. This effect should therefore be included during the set up with prior art vehicles. It is noted that positioning the firing line relative to the well while the chassis is in the lifted support position is more efficient than positioning the firing line only by moving the chassis back and forth since the subsequent lifting of the chassis into the lifted working position may move the firing line off center. This effect should therefore be included during the set up with prior art vehicles.

In a preferred embodiment, a single stabiliser is provided, which is located at the centre of the elongated chassis and below the derrick unit. In an alternative embodiment, multiple stabilisers can be provided, for example in the form of outriggers, which are all configured to be moved relative to the chassis while supporting it in the lifted working position, to thus enable the firing line to be moved relative to the well in addition to the movement provided by the rotatable derrick unit.In a preferred embodiment, a single stabilizer is provided, which is located at the center of the elongated chassis and below the derrick unit. In an embodiment of a mobile land rig according to the invention, the derrick unit is furthermore 5 provided with two stabilisers, which stabilisers, when deployed, extend in a direction away from the derrick mast, preferably such that, when seen in a top view, the firing line is located between the derrick mast and the stabilisers, more in particular the firing line is located between the derrick mast and the points at which the stabilisers contact the surface. In an embodiment of a mobile land rig according to the invention, the derrick unit is furthermore 5 provided with two stabilizers, which stabilizers, when deployed, extend in a direction away from the derrick mast, preferably such that, when seen in a top view , the firing line is located between the derrick mast and the stabilizers, more in particular the firing line is located between the derrick mast and the points at which the stabilizers contact the surface.

Thus, in such an embodiment, when the derrick unit is rotated, the erectable derrick mast, the drill floor mount, the drawworks platform, and the two stabilisers are rotated in unison. By providing the derrick unit with the stabilisers,Thus, in such an embodiment, when the derrick unit is rotated, the erectable derrick mast, the drill floor mount, the drawworks platform, and the two stabilizers are rotated in unison. By providing the derrick unit with the stabilizers,

By providing the derrick unit with stabilisers, workloads generated during drilling and or servicing, for example torque generated by a top drive rotating a drill string in the well, can be transferred via the stabilisers instead of via the device that rotatable supports the derrick unit, for example slew bearing. The latter can thus be made less robust and/or the risk of damage to the support device, e.g. slew bearing is reduced. This is in particular the case with a further preferred embodiment in which the stabilisers of the derrick unit are configured to be coupled with the stabilisers of a mobile tubular handling device, which is to be set up on the opposite side of the well.By providing the derrick unit with stabilizers, workloads generated during drilling and servicing, for example torque generated by a top drive rotating a drill string in the well, can be transferred via the stabilizers instead of via the device that rotatable supports the derrick unit, for example slew bearing. Thus, the road vehicle can be parked alongside a row of wells, i.e. with the longitudinal axis of the elongate frame parallel to the row of wells, and still be able to service and/or drill that well. However, in the preferred embodiment shown, the elongate chassis 3 has a rear end stabilizer 8 "that is configured to support the rear end 6 or the chassis 3 in a lifted support position. The stabilizer 8 is slideable connected to the chassis such that the chassis, while supported in the lifted support position, can be moved relative to the stabilizer in a direction substantially perpendicular to the longitudinal axis of the chassis. Thus, the chassis, and therefore the firing line, can be moved relative to the well.

This is particular beneficial when the derrick unit is rotated over an angle of 90 degrees, and the firing line is posited at the side of the road vehicle, which set u is depicted in Fig. 5. In this configuration, the stabiliser 8’ allows for moving the elongate chassis 3 sideways, and thus to move the firing line 16 towards and away from the well 24. In addition to the rotatable mounted derrick unit 10 this further improves the possibility to fine tune the position of the firing line relative to the well, while the chassis is in its supported working positon. This is particularly beneficial when the derrick unit is rotated over an angle of 90 degrees, and the firing line is positioned on the side of the road vehicle, which set is depicted in Fig. 5. In the embodiment shown, the derrick unit 10 is furthermore provided with two stabilisers 8”, which are pivotable mounted to the derrick unit 10. In the embodiment shown, the stabiliser comprise a stabilising leg and an actuator for pivoting the pivotable stabilising leg between an active position, shown in Fig. 1, and a transport position. In the embodiment shown, the derrick unit 10 is furthermore provided with two stabilizers 8 ”, which are pivotable mounted to the derrick unit 10. The stabilisers 8”, when deployed, extend in a direction away from the derrick mast 11, such that, when seen in a top view, the firing line 16 is located between the derrick mast 11 and the stabilisers 8”, more in particular the firing line is located between the derrick mast and the points at which the stabilisers contact the surface. In the embodiment shown, the rear end stabiliser 8’ and the two derrick unit stabilisers 8”, when deployed, form a three point support for the derrick mast. The stabilizers 8 ", when deployed, extend in a direction away from the derrick mast 11, such that, when seen in a top view, the firing line 16 is located between the derrick mast 11 and the stabilizers 8", more in particular the firing line is located between the derrick mast and the points at which the stabilizers contact the surface. In the embodiment shown, the rear end stabilizer 8 "and the two derrick unit stabilizers 8", when deployed, form a three point support for the derrick mast.

By providing the derrick unit with stabilisers, workloads generated during drilling and or servicing, for example torque generated by a top drive rotating a drill string in the well, can be transferred via the stabilisers instead of via the device that rotatable supports the derrick unit, for example slew bearing. The latter can thus be made less robust and/or the risk of damage to the support device, e.g. slew bearing is reduced.By providing the derrick unit with stabilizers, workloads generated during drilling and servicing, for example torque generated by a top drive rotating a drill string in the well, can be transferred via the stabilizers instead of via the device that rotatable supports the derrick unit, for example slew bearing.
