Abstract
Device for appliance in a wall or ceiling for improving the finishing edges of plaster at an aperture in such a wall or ceiling, in particular but not exclusively at an aperture for a power socket outlet in such a wall or ceiling, having a body comprising a substantially flat rim or frame that is closed in itself, which rim or frame is provided with an outer circumference and an inner circumference, wherein during appliance in said wall or ceiling said inner circumference approximates the said aperture in the wall or ceiling, and wherein at or near the location of said inner circumference of the rim or frame the body is provided with an upstanding edge to enable that during appliance in said wall or ceiling the plaster covers the rim or frame up to said upstanding edge.
Description
Device for appliance in a wall or ceiling
The invention relates to a device for appliance in a wall or ceiling for improving or strengthening the finishing edges of plaster at an aperture in such a wall or ceiling, in particular but not exclusively at an aperture for a power socket outlet in such a wall or ceiling.
As is commonly known plaster is used to finish walls or ceilings to improve the outer appearance of walls and ceilings. When after applying the plaster further work has to be done by other construction workers, such as electricians, the plaster is damaged particularly around wall and ceiling sockets for power outlets. Occasionally this necessitates that the plaster has to be redone surrounding those areas where damage has occurred. Needless to say that this is costly and should as much as possible be avoided.
The invention aims as a first objective to provide a device which enables other workers to execute their constructional work without damaging the earlier provided plaster.
As a second objective the invention aims at reducing costs by improving the ease of applying the plaster, particularly around apertures in the walls or ceilings that are intended for predominantly power outlet sockets. It is however explicitly pointed out that the device proposed according to the invention is not restricted to be applied around apertures for power outlet sockets, but also for other types of apertures .
According to the invention a device is proposed having the features of one or more of the appended claims.
In a first aspect of the invention the device has a body comprising a substantially flat rim or frame that is closed in itself, which rim or frame is provided with an outer circumference and an inner circumference, wherein during appliance in said wall or ceiling said inner circumference approximates the said aperture in the wall or ceiling, and wherein at or near the location of said inner circumference of the rim or frame the body is provided with an upstanding edge to enable that during appliance in said wall or ceiling the plaster can be applied covering the rim or frame up to said upstanding edge. In the device of the invention the upstanding edge enables easy appliance of the plaster, whereas the device in itself fortifies the plaster that is applied, enabling other constructional workers to work within the central aperture delimited or approximated by the inner circumference of the rim or frame.
Preferably the rim or frame is provided with regularly distributed apertures positioned between the inner circumference and the outer circumference of said rim or frame to enable that the plaster that covers the rim or frame contacts the wall or ceiling through said apertures. This secures reliable positioning of the device of the invention in the concerning wall or ceiling.
In one embodiment the body of the device of the invention is provided with protruding legs extending from a side of the rim or frame away from and opposite to the upstanding edge. These protruding legs serve the purpose of easy and secure placement of the device of the invention in a ceiling. This can be further promoted by arranging that the protruding legs are resilient and are provided with a hook at their free extremities. The hooks can then hook behind gypsum plates of the ceiling.
The invention is also embodied in a method for plastering a wall or ceiling, comprising the step of placing the device according to the invention at or near an aperture in said wall or ceiling, followed by the step of plastering the wall or ceiling such that a rim or frame of the device is substantially covered by the plaster.
The invention will hereinafter be further elucidated with reference to the drawing of exemplary embodiments of the device according to the invention that is not limiting as to the appended claims.
In the drawing: -figure IA, IB and 1C show a first embodiment of the device according to the invention in a top view, a side view, and an isometric view respectively; - figure 2A, 2B and 2C show a second embodiment of the device according to the invention in a top view, a side view, and an isometric view respectively; - figure 3A, 3B and 3C show a third embodiment of the device according to the invention in a bottom view, a side view, and an isometric view respectively; - figure 4A, 4B and 4C show a fourth embodiment of the device according to the invention which is particularly suitable for application in a ceiling in a bottom view, a side view, and an isometric view respectively; and - figure 5A, 5B and 5C show a fifth embodiment of the device according to the invention which is particularly suitable for application in a ceiling in a top view, a side view, and an isometric view respectively.
Whenever in the figures the same reference numerals are applied, these numerals refer to the same parts.
With reference first to figures IA, IB and 1C the device of the invention is generally denoted with reference 1. Device 1 according to the embodiment shown in these figures has a elliptical body 2 comprising a substantially flat rim or frame 3 that is closed in itself, which rim or frame 3 is provided with an outer circumference 4 and an inner circumference 5. During appliance in a wall or ceiling said inner circumference 5 is intended to approximate or delimit an aperture in the wall or ceiling. At or near the location of said inner circumference 5 of the rim or frame 3 the body is provided with an upstanding edge 6 to enable that during appliance in said wall or ceiling the plaster will cover the rim or frame 3 up to said upstanding edge 6.
Particularly figures 1A and 1C show that the rim or frame 3 is provided with regularly distributed apertures 7 positioned between the inner circumference 5 and the outer circumference 4 of said rim or frame 3 to enable that the plaster that will cover the rim or frame 3 contacts the wall or ceiling through said apertures 7.
Figures 2A, 2B and 2C show a device 1 of the invention in a second embodiment in which the body 2 of the device has an essentially circular shape.
Figures 3A, 3B and 3C show a device 1 of the invention in a third embodiment in which the body 2 of the device has an rectangular shape.
Figures 4A, 4B and 4C as well as figures 5A, 5B and 5C show the device 1 of the invention in a fourth and a fifth embodiment that are particularly suitable for application in a ceiling. The fourth embodiment shown in figures 4A, 4B and 4C are provided with a circular shaped body 2, whereas the fifth embodiment shown in figures 5A, 5B and 5C are embodied with a rectangular shaped body 2.
Both said embodiments of figures 4A, 4B and 4C and figures 5A, 5B and 5C are arranged with a body 2 that is provided with protruding legs 8 extending from a side 9 of the rim or frame 3 away from and opposite to the upstanding edge 6. Further more preferably the protruding legs 8 are resilient and are provided with a hook 10 that can be used for attaching the device 1 behind gypsum plates of a ceiling in which the device 1 of the invention is applied.
Although the invention has been discussed in the foregoing with reference to several exemplary embodiments of the device of the invention, the invention is not restricted to these particular embodiments which can be varied in many ways without departing from the gist of the invention. The discussed exemplary embodiments shall therefore not be used to construe the appended claims strictly in accordance therewith. On the contrary the embodiments are merely intended to explain the wording of the appended claims without intent to limit the claims to these exemplary embodiments. The scope of protection of the invention shall therefore be construed in accordance with the appended claims only, wherein a possible ambiguity in the wording of the claims shall be resolved using these exemplary embodiments.
