Description
Device for disassembling a structure
The invention relates to a device comprising an arm-support which is connectable to a structure, and a movable articulated arm which is mounted on the armsupport, wherein the arm has at least one tool at or near its extremity which is distant from the armsupport.
Such a device which is suitable for disassembling a structure which is optionally at least in part submerged, is known from the 55 page description, claims and figures counting international patent application WO2012/108765. As this bulky application already suggests, the device known from this document is not the epitomy of simplicity nor is it to be seen as the state-of-the-art in ease of operation.
The invention is aimed at providing an alternative to the known device which is simpler, easier to operate, more compact and reliable.
The device of the invention has the features of one or more of the appended claims.
According to a first aspect of the invention the arm-support is embodied as a hollow base provided with a central aperture which is dimensioned to receive at least part of the structure on which it is to be mounted. The hollow base with the central aperture does not need to be closed in itself; i.e. it may have an open slit such that the hollow base can either partly (when a slit is present) or completely (when the hollow base is closed in itself) encircle the structure received therein. Thus the device provides a very solid and reliable means of connecting the device of the invention with said structure, which preferably is the structure to be disassembled. It is however also possible that the device is mounted on another structure close to the structure to be disassembled .
In a preferable embodiment of the device of the invention which is particularly easy to operate, the hollow base is embodied with controllable restriction means within said aperture to attach the hollow base to the structure, or to another structure in its vicinity.
Beneficially the hollow base is provided with an upper base part and a lower base part that are telescopically movable with respect to each other. With such telescopically movable upper and lower base parts, the device of the invention is enabled to move autonomously up-and-down the structure. It may even move up-and-down during operation of the movable articulated arm which is mounted on the base.
In another preferred embodiment the hollow base is provided with an upper base part and a lower base part, each of said base parts having independently controllable restriction means to individually attach each of said base parts to the structure or to another structure in its vicinity. This particularly promotes the autonomous movability of the embodiment of the device of the invention which is provided with an upper base part and a lower base part that are telescopically movable with respect to each other.
The invention will hereinafter be further elucidated with reference to the drawing.
In the drawing: -figure 1 schematically shows the device of the invention in a preferred embodiment; and -figure 2 shows two devices of the invention in an example of their application.
Whenever in the figures the same reference numerals are applied, these numerals refer to the same parts.
With reference first to figure 1 the device of the invention is shown in a side view. The device comprises an armsupport embodied as a hollow base 1, 2 which is connectable to a structure which has to be dismantled. The hollow base 1, 2 could however also be mounted on a further structure close to the structure to be dismantled. For the purpose of the dismantling operation, the device comprises also a movable articulated arm 3 which is mounted on the hollow base 1, 2, wherein the arm 3 has at least one tool 4 at or near its extremity which is distant from the hollow base 1, 2.
As mentioned the armsupport of the device of the invention is embodied as a hollow base 1, 2 and this hollow base is provided with a central aperture which is dimensioned to receive at least part of the structure which has to be disman- tied or part of a close-by positioned structure. This is clear to the skilled person from what is shown in figure 2 wherein at the right-hand portion of this figure one device according to the invention is placed on a standard 5 of a structure to be dismantled.
The structure can be a jacket structure or any other structure which incorporates legs that can be received in the central aperture of the hollow base 1, 2 of the device of the invention. The hollow base 1, 2 can be implemented closed in itself as is shown in figure 1. It is however also possible that the hollow base 1, 2 is not closed in itself, yet comprises a slit such that in the mounted position the hollow base 1, 2 does not completely encircle the structure received therein .
It is preferable that the hollow base 1, 2 is embodied with controllable restriction means within said central aperture of the hollow base 1, 2 to attach same to a standard 5 of the structure. The manner in which this can be implemented is known to the skilled person and requires no further elucidation .
Both figure 1 and figure 2 show a preferred embodiment in which the hollow base 1, 2 is provided with an upper base part 1 and a lower base part 2 that are telescopically movable with respect to each other. Preferably the arm 3 of the device of the invention is mounted to the upper base part 1.
It is also preferable that the hollow base 1, 2 is provided with an upper base part 1 and a lower base part 2, wherein each of said base parts 1, 2 have independently controllable restriction means to individually attach each of said base parts 1, 2 to a leg 5 of the structure. This makes possible that the device of the invention autonomously moves up and down the leg 5 of the structure by intermittently operating the controllable restriction means of the upper and lower base parts 1, 2 while said base parts repeatedly move telescopically into and out of each other. As an example: at the time the upper base part 1 is attached to the leg 5 of the structure by activation of its controllable restriction means, the controllable restriction means of the lower base part 2 are released and the lower base part 2 is telescopically moved in a direction away from the upper base part 1. Subsequently when the lower base part 2 has reached its farthest extension, the controllable restriction means of the lower base part 2 are activated to connect the lower base part 2 to the leg 5 of the construction. Thereafter the controllable restriction means of the upper base part 1 are released followed by telescopic movement of the upper base part 1 in a direction towards the lower base part 2. This can then be followed by connecting the controllable restriction means of the upper base part 1 to the leg 5 of the structure as the start of a new cycle of repeated movements of said base parts 1, 2. As consequence of these operations the device of the invention autonomously moves down the leg 5 of the structure. At the same time or at the time that the device has come to a complete stop, the arm 3 and the tool 4 at the free extremity of the arm 3 can be operated.
Although the invention has been discussed in the foregoing with reference to an exemplary embodiment of the apparatus of the invention, the invention is not restricted to this particular embodiment which can be varied in many ways without departing from the gist of the invention. The discussed exemplary embodiment shall therefore not be used to construe the appended claims strictly in accordance therewith. On the contrary the embodiment is merely intended to explain the wording of the appended claims without intent to limit the claims to this exemplary embodiment. The scope of protection of the invention shall therefore be construed in accordance with the appended claims only, wherein a possible ambiguity in the wording of the claims shall be resolved using this exemplary embodiment.
