Description

PRODUCT CARRIER SUCH AS FOR USE IN A GREEN HOUSE
The present invention relates to a product carrier such as represented in the preamble of the following claim 1 and such as is in particular well known in green houses.
These known carriers are used e.g. to carry products such as plants, more in particular pot plants. They may have a open support surface or a closed one, which latter is typically used to flood the lower side of pot plants with water at watering the plants. The carriers are hence to be sturdy, long lived and yet also low in initial cost price. Typically these carriers are composed of longitudinal side panels with transverse bars therein between for supporting the open or closed product support surface of the carrier. They are normally provided with end panels transverse to the longitudinal panels. Generally two of the supporting bars are provided with supports, often wheeled supports for supporting the carrier, normally to a rail system present in the green house. In the generally known carrier concept, the support carrying bars support the side panels, whereas the side panels in turn carry the support surface carrying bars.
The known containers are normally built with profiled, often extruded parts of lightweight material, in practice of the greenhouse cultivation, in accordance with preference, normally aluminum.
The invention is part of various measures directed to improve both costs and export, in general the logistic possibilities with the product. In this respect, the improvements are also directed to making the product easy and economical to supply and to be able to locally assemble in a simple manner, preferably not requiring welding.
In view of ever further rationalization and cost reduction of product for operating greenhouses, in particular in view of also optimizing the same products for export purposes, constant optimization of the known carrier is sought. With a view to reducing transportation costs it is in accordance with insight underlying the present invention advantageous to limit the volume and weight of the individual container parts and also to realize that the parts or elements are each stackable in a simple and stable manner.
To facilitate straightforward assembly and limit assembly costs, in particular local assembly, i.e. at site of delivery, it is further advantageous to be able to assemble a product carrier in a simple manner, preferably without any need of welding and without, at least while limiting a need for special tools at assembly of the container. In particular welding of aluminum requires skill, and in fact requires the supply of scarce personnel of craftsmanship which in particular at export may be expensive.
The present invention thus aims to improve the known product carrier in one or more respects such as mentioned in the preceding, and to further rationalize the product, preferably by use of screw constructions, at least while limiting if not omission of application of welding constructions, and while maintaining functionality and quality of the known product carrier, and more preferably while still further rationalizing the manufacture and supply of the known carrier. By developing a carrier concept based on screw connections a yet further advantage is gained in that a purchaser may opt to reduce initial costs of product by utilizing in house assembly staff.
BACKGROUND
One elaboration of a known product carrier, in practice and in the following also denoted as container, is known from the Dutch patent publication NL1034116. In this document a fitting connection between a wheel support and a rimmed lower side of a hollow profile or bar is indicated. The connection is supported by an additional aluminum weld, and also the connection between side panel and bar is made by welding. It is further taught to include a wheel support close as possible to a side panel of the carrier, so as not to cause the wheel carrying profile, i.e. the wheel bar, to deflect.
In Dutch patent application NL-1036606 it is taught to also weld above said lower side rims to a generally rectangular shaped hollow profile hollow, thus providing a rim to be preferably fittingly embraced by a e.g. wheeled support, the latter thus connected to the bar, freely movable in longitudinal direction. Normally the support is fixated relative tot the supporting bar by welding at a desired longitudinal location, at some distance from but close to a support bar end. Apart from the fact that welding is not sought for in a carrier concept according to the present invention, a cost and logistic advantage of such of the shelf available, generally rectangular profiles may be lost by such rim welding and fixation welding measures.
A screwed connection between side panel and a transverse bar is disclosed in NL-1032180, by a carrier design involving all bars rectangular shaped, and with so called screw channels, connection openings extending in longitudinal direction of a bar, in each of the four corners. Such “screw channels” are an otherwise well known concept in aluminum greenhouse construction and are often provided partly open as taken in cross section. The presence thereof in the transverse profiles disclosed here implies that the latter are fully produced by extrusion. The publication further discloses a side panel type or profiling having a lower section provided with an upper and a lower, inwardly directed flange, as well as an intermediate flange therein between, between which intermediate and the upper flange, forming a sideway turned U-shape, an end portion of the transverse bars of the carrier is received. With screws connected between side panel and a transverse bar, the latter is secured relative to the panel, so that the weight thereof is securely transferred to the transverse bar by the upper flange resting on the top side of the bar. Alternatively and accordingly, weight of the products supported by the carrier is securely transferred to a side panel by a bar resting on the intermediate or lower flange of the lower section of the side panel.
Dutch patent publication NL-1036609 discloses a product carrier with a known connection for an open, i.e. meshed or wired product support surface with a supporting bar and a then new manner involving a spring clip clamping a wire of the open surface to an upper side of an l-shaped profile or bar. The latter enable manual fixation of product support surface and carrier bars, i.e. obviates a requirement of special tooling at assembly and at the same time sets forth a secure fixation.
In the known carriers an end panel is embodied different from a side panel in that the upper flange of the lower panel section is provided with additional protrusion length, so as to enable resting of an end of the product support surface thereon. In fact the end panel therewith as it were in that manner replaces an end profile at that place.
SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION
The present invention relates to a product carrier, also meaning a kit of parts for the assembly thereof, for use in greenhouse cultivation, in particular as crop carrier, provided with supports such as wheel supports for displacement of the carrier along a track as provided in greenhouses, comprising a frame of panels for at least a longitudinal side of the carrier, in which carrier in width direction thereof, support profiles alternatively denoted bars are included, connected with a longitudinal panel, for supporting a support surface providing bed part such as mesh or plate element, for instance a synthetic tub, wherein a support carrying bar is provided in a different height than one or more further bars for supporting the support surface of the carrier, and/or is provided in a hollow profile where one or more of the further bars are provided in a non-hollow profile. With a such measure according to the invention, material utilisation is optimised in that e.g. non support carrying bars may be produced in a non-hollow profile of either similar or somewhat larger height than the support carrying bars, which latter require additional space in order to properly accommodate the supports or wheels of a carrier, and which may for that reason be provided in a shallower height, however in a hollow, i.e. double walled profile. An important insight underlying the present measure is the realisation that non-hollow profiles may be used in combination with a screwed, i.e. un-welded or un-braced connection due to the fact that bracing thereof with the side profiles is in fact provided by the connection of the support surface with each of the transverse bars, the support surface being realised to be stiff within its plane. It are these insights and subsequent measure based thereon that resulted in the present novel, material saving and hence cost and weight reduced screw connection based carrier.
Further, a such like conceived construction may be provided economically while technically still a robust, in that it solves the problem of the different load that the support bars are subjected to in comparison to the further bars. In case the support bars are provided in a shallower height, such also solves the problem of stacking the carriers and/or enables the carrier to be transported freely in lengthwise direction, therein moving over a track of wheels contacting the lower face of a side panel, while still a considerable number of bars requiring only two connection points may be applied per connection with a side panel. The latter favourably is the case where a so-called non-hollow profile is applied. According to the invention the latter is thereto provided with a longitudinal at a transition from the central main flange to a transverse upper or lower flange. Where such is required given the load to be supported by the carrier, the further bars provided with larger height and only two connection opening may as well be embodied in a hollow profile, typically as well shaped largely trapezoidal in cross section. Robustness of this design is achieved in that any relatively lower height of the support bar is compensated by the fact that a hollow profile provides for double side walls which compensate any reduction in strength that would come along with the reduction in height. An insight further underlying this inventive measure holds that this effect of robustness and strength compensation is enhanced by the fact that a support bar is provided with a lower wall forming rims lateral to the side walls thereof.
It was further recognised that this new design may all the more safely be applied in a case where a support, apart from connecting with the support bar, would be directly coupled to the relevant side panel of a carrier. Where the invention recognises that a support bar may according to the above defined be shaped relatively shallow at its end sections only, it is also recognised that it may be economic and technically feasible to apply a uniformly profiled bar.
It is remarked that in further elaboration of the concept of the present invention said further bars form the majority of the bars for supporting a support surface of the carrier. In a preferred embodiment the support carrying bars are of different height than said one or more other bars and the support carrying bars are provided with a hollow profile. In a design according to the present invention, favourably the upper side of an non-hollow profile and the upper side of a hollow profile are made in a corresponding, preferably identical shape, thereby allowing a single known connection clip to be uniformly applied in the carrier.
So as to maintain an advantage of ease of assembly, and given further insight as to the technical requirement of the minimal number of connections needed between side panel and a bar, the upper side of a hollow profile is provided with a single connection opening or screw channel for receipt of a connection element, included central of the upper face of the bar. In accordance with yet further elaboration, a hollow profile is provided in a form having a generally trapezoidal cross section, the side faces each connecting to the upper face of the bar in between a hooked lateral extension and the central screw channel. The lower side of a hollow profile may be provided with a single, centrally included connection opening or screw channel for receipt of a connection element, the lower side of a support carrying hollow profile or bar being provided with two connection channels, each integrated in a corner part between a side face and the lower face of the bar. Particularly in the case of a support bar, the lower side of a hollow profile is provided broadened, in the form of lateral extension thereof beyond the side faces of the hollow profile.
In an elaboration further supporting the concept of the invention, a panel has a lower section receiving said bars by means of a profiling in the form of a flange protruding transverse to the panel and inward of the carrier, at least one intermediate inward protruding flange being provided between a lowermost flange and an upper flange of the lower panel section, or alike profiling covering a bar or providing a profiling part for receipt of said support surface, and wherein the bars of shallower height are accommodated between the upper and the intermediate flange, and the bars of greater height being provided with a slit end portion for receiving said intermediate flange and being accommodated between the upper and lower flange of the lower panel section. Hence the invention also relates to a product carrier, in particular according to any of the preceding claims, also meaning a kit of parts for the assembly thereof, for use in greenhouse cultivation, in particular as crop carrier, provided with supports such as wheel supports for displacement of the carrier along a track as provided in greenhouses, comprising a frame of panels for at least a longitudinal side of the carrier, in which carrier in width direction thereof, support profiles alternatively denoted bars are included, connected with a longitudinal panel, for supporting a support surface providing bed part such as mesh or plate element, for instance a synthetic tub, wherein, a panel has a lower section receiving said bars by means of a profiling in the form of a flange protruding transverse to the panel and inward of the carrier, at least one intermediate inward protruding flange being provided between a lowermost flange and an upper flange of the lower panel section, or alike profiling covering a bar or providing a profiling part for receipt of said support surface, and wherein the bars of shallower height are accommodated between the upper and the intermediate flange, and the bars of greater height being provided with a slit end portion for receiving said intermediate flange and being accommodated between the upper and lower flange of the lower panel section.
According to yet further elaboration, a longitudinal panel of the carrier is supported by a support carrying bar via the upper flange of the lower panel section, in particular by the flange resting on the upper side of the bar, and wherein non support carrying bars, supporting the support surface, are supported by the side panel via either or both of the intermediate and the lower flange of the lower panel section.
In an embodiment, a support carrying bar is provided as a hollow profile with shallower height, and wherein at least part of the remainder of bars supporting a support surface is provided in a greater height, an end part thereof accommodated between the upper flange and the lower flange of the lower section of a side panel of the carrier, and showing an end part provided with a slit, receiving an intermediate flange of the side panel. In accordance with the preceding, at least a considerable number of non-support carrying bars is provided in a non-hollow profile. In another embodiment, the majority of the bars is produced in a non-hollow profile. Alternatively, about half of the bars is produced in a non-hollow profile, preferably including in a manner with alternating height level. Another conception of the invention holds that about half of the bars is produced in an hollow profile.
Nevertheless the preceding, an embodiment may hold that a bar carrying a support is produced in an hollow profile, where one or more of the further bars are provided in a non-hollow profile in either the same or in larger height. Hence, the invention also relates to a product carrier, in particular in accordance with any of the preceding claims, also meaning a kit of parts for the assembly thereof, for use in greenhouse cultivation, in particular as crop carrier, provided with supports such as wheel supports for displacement of the carrier along a track as provided in greenhouses, comprising a frame of panels for at least a longitudinal side of the carrier, in which carrier in width direction thereof, support profiles alternatively denoted bars are included, connected with a longitudinal panel, for supporting a support surface providing bed part such as mesh or plate element, for instance a synthetic tub, wherein a bar carrying a support is produced in an hollow profile, where one or more of the further bars are provided in a non-hollow profile in either the same or in larger height.
In any of the preceding, part of a lower section of a side panel of the carrier may be provided with a partially outward protruding, i.e. outward displaced section, e.g. by bending or by extrusion shape, the section having a main face parallel to the upper panel part. This measure supports stiffness of a side panel and preferably is provided with an outward offset, e.g. of several times the thickness of the panel, to the effect that a bumper is created for the carrier, in particular to the effect that the upper panel rims of two contacting carriers are maintained free, i.e. at distance from one another. The measure also provides that any impact between two contacting carriers is taken up favourably, certainly preventing the connection elements from being imparted. In an embodiment, the outward protruding section is included close to the upper side of the lower panel section. More in particular, the outward protruding section is included, depending on one of three panels of different height, central to of the lower section, central to a section between an intermediary flange and the upper flange of the lower panel section, and to the upper side of a panel section between an intermediary and the upper flange respectively. In this respect preferably an upper row of connection elements for connection of a panel to the bars is located near the upper side of the lower panel section, between the level of upper flange of said section resting on the upper side of the bars, and the outward protruding part of the lower panel section. Said outward protruding section may favourably project outward from an upper panel section beyond the outward projection of an upper end rim of the upper panel section and beyond the protrusion of connection elements included for connecting the side panel with the bars supporting the support surface.
According to yet further elaboration of the present new carrier, the upper section of an end panel is provided with shallower height than the upper section of the side panel, and wherein the lower section of the end panel is provided without intermediary inward protruding flange.
It may be clear from the preceding that the invention in fact also relates to a set of parts for the manufacture of a set carriers of different load classes, comprising at least one type of side panel for connection with transverse oriented bars for supporting a support surface, the panel in a lower section thereof for connection with said bars being provided with inward protruding upper and lower flanges, and in between, an intermediate flange, the set comprising a bar provided with an end part provided with a slit for accommodating the intermediate flange when fittingly received between said upper and lower flange. Likewise, the invention also relates to a set of parts for the manufacture of a set carriers of different load classes, comprising at least two types of side panel for connection with transverse oriented bars for supporting a support surface, the panel in a lower section thereof for connection with said bars being provided with inward protruding upper and lower flanges, at least one type in between said flanges comprising an intermediate flange and the types of panels differing in height of the lower section, the set comprising a number of bars of different heights, the number corresponding to the number of types of panel, and a number of types of carrier offered with said set of parts being larger than said number of types of panel. Such sett may further favourably comprise two types of bar each offered in different heights, and characterised by a shape including a non-hollow profile and a shape including a hollow profile. In this manner, favourably at least three classes of product carrier are proposed, by using either or both of said bars of different type in combination with a panel with intermediary flange, therein merely requiring the bars of the carrier to be produced in two different sets. The invention further relates to a set of parts for producing a carrier, comprising a transverse end panel of reduced height relative to the height of a longitudinal panel, considering the height above support surface, the reduced height panel being proposed in at least two corresponding height levels of longitudinal panels offered for combination with said reduced height panels, the lower section of either of such reduced height panel being free from any intermediate flange parts as defined in one of the preceding claims.
The concept according to the present invention may favourably be marketed as a kit of parts, in particular for a carrier according to any of the preceding definitions, wherein a support carrying bar is provided in a different height than one or more further bars for supporting the support surface of the carrier, and/or is provided in a hollow profile where one or more of the further bars are provided in a non-hollow profile.
The present invention further relates to an improved product carrier, wherein, a support bar is provided with a support part, the support bar and the support each directly connected to a side panel of the carrier, in particular by one or more longitudinally extending openings for receiving a connection element, and wherein the support and support bar are mutually mechanically connected, hence a product carrier also meaning a kit of parts for the assembly thereof, for use in greenhouse cultivation, in particular as crop carrier, provided with supports such as wheeled supports for displacement of the carrier along a track as provided in greenhouses, comprising a frame of panels for at least a longitudinal side of the carrier, in which carrier in width direction thereof, support bars and/or support profiles are included, connected with a longitudinal panel of the carrier, and supporting a support surface providing bed part such as mesh or plate element, for instance a synthetic tub and carrying the product, wherein, a support bar is provided with a support part, the support bar and the support each directly connected to a side panel of the carrier, in particular by one or more longitudinally extending openings for receiving a connection element, and wherein the support and support bar are mutually mechanically connected.
With a such improved product carrier, the particular connection between a side panel and a support carrying bar is improved in that the quality of a fully screwed connection is improved in that the durability thereof is improved without utilizing known welding connections, in particular by likewise having the support connected to a side panel. The support may thereto be provided with an elongated rim embracing section, stretching towards a side panel, while the wheel or kind like support part is maintained at some distance from the side panel as is often required for longitudinal transportation of the carrier. In the particular case of the connection between support bar and side panel, given the weight and forces to be transferred from side panel to support bar and vice versa, prejudice required the application of a sturdiest possible, preferably still in the form of a known, welded connection. It is a merit of the present invention to have realized that a good deal of stiffness in the plane of the support surface of the carrier is in many cases already present, and may be relied on, by the connection between a side panel and the plurality of such support surface supporting and connecting bars. Hence it is recognized that a sufficiently reliable screw connection at this location of the carrier may be realized if also the support itself is connected directly to the side panel rather than, in accordance with common practice, via the support bar.
It was further recognized that for realizing this measure, a mutual connection between support and support bar enhances the newly defined connection at this point of the carrier. The invention recognized that given the load transferred from the side panel to the support carrying bar, and the high and flat nature of the panel, the latter may tend to become tilted and/or twisted, so that the latter measure enhances the rigidity and quality of the newly proposed connection, in that it counteracts an effect of such tilting/and or twisting according to which support and bar would be required to mutually shift in the longitudinal direction of the bar, i.e. transverse to the panel. According to preferred embodiment, the mechanical connection is embodied by a clamping means, most preferably a connection using one or more of the same or comparable screws.
In an embodiment known per se, the support connects to the support bar along a rim of the support bar fittingly received by a complementary shaped part of the support. The support may in accordance with preference be connected to a side panel by at least two connection elements, each included laterally beyond a side wall of the support bar. More preferably the at least two connection elements are included laterally beyond a point of contact between support and support track, at least at a lateral outer end of the support.
In a specific elaboration, especially developed for but not limited to a carrier provided with a closed support surface, and relatively difficult to fixate, at least with a fairly limited number of connections to the carrier frame, the support is integrated with, at least is provided with a brace part including said at least two connection elements, at least receiving parts therefore. The at least two connection elements are then preferably included beyond, at least near a laterally outermost end of the support element.
In an embodiment, a support bar fitted with a support part is or is adapted to be connected to the side panel by at least one connection element included at a level at or near the vertical end of the support bar, opposite to side connecting to the support. The support bar may however be provided with two connection openings, each at a vertical opposite end thereof: it was recognized that with the measures according to the present invention, the support and the support bar may form a rigid body, so that if both are connected to the side panel, the support bar may be embodied relatively light weight, e.g. in accordance with the non support carrying bars, at least may be provided with a limited numbers of connections, in this case two screw connections preferably vertically in line. A carrier may however still be provided with a hollow, in fact double walled support bar, at least a support bar provided with at least three openings for receiving a connection element for connection with the side panel, included in triangular pattern as taken in cross section, one foreseen at the level and in between the connection locations of the brace part, and the other two included at a common level, different from the level of connection of the brace part, in particular, at an opposite vertical end of the support bar.
In accordance with preference, a brace part included in the connection between support carrying bar and side panel, is provided with laterally and obliquely upwards extending brace parts, the integrated part being connected, at least adapted to be connected to a side panel by four connection elements, of which two at the level of the upper side of the bar to which the integrated part is fitted or adapted to be fitted, and two at the level of the lower side of said bar. Such a brace part may be embodied to extend longitudinally along the support bar well beyond, preferably around twice, the longitudinal projection of the support. A fitting of the integrated brace and support to the lower profiling or rims of the bar, in the direction of the side panel to be connected to, may favorably extend longitudinally along the support bar, well beyond the longitudinal projection of the support.
The present invention hence also relates to a product carrier, in particular provided with any of the features defined in the preceding, also meaning a kit of parts for the assembly thereof, for use in greenhouse cultivation, in particular as crop carrier, provided with supports such as wheeled supports for displacement of the carrier along a track as provided in greenhouses, comprising a frame of panels for at least a longitudinal side of the carrier, in which carrier in width direction thereof, bars and/or profiles are included, connected with a longitudinal panel of the carrier, and supporting a support surface providing bed part such as mesh or plate element, for instance a synthetic tub and carrying the product, wherein, a wheel bar is provided with one or more brace parts extending in a direction having at least a component parallel to the support surface, and connected to the panel by a screw or nail connection.
In accordance with the preceding, a bar for the connection of an end thereof to a side panel, near the upper and lower side thereof may be provided with an in this bar integrated opening stretching longitudinal of the bar, for receipt of a connecting element such as screw of nail. In this respect, according to further refinement, the side panel and a bar are mutually connected with a maximum of two respective connections at different height levels. Also, a side panel at each position for connection with a bar may be provided with a maximum of two openings .
In a particular embodiment, at least a substantial part of the bars of the invented carrier is embodied as a non-hollow profile known per se. Preferably the brace part may be applied at least in a connection between support carrying bar and side panel. Where it is normally not deemed necessary in other bar to side panel connections, it may nevertheless be included in some or even all instances, especially in case the support surface is not or rather poorly connected to the surface supporting bars of the carrier. Such brace part forming a braced connection between bar and panel is provided with a profile for receipt of a connecting element, alternatively denoted a connection channel, in particular corresponding to the connection profiling in a bar.
In accordance with common practice, a bar is produced in aluminum. A brace part normally stretches at both sides of a wheeled bar and is at each side connected with the relevant side panel. The brace part may stretch at opposite sides of a bar and preferably is at each side connected to the panel by a single connecting element. Further brace connections are preferably included at the level of the lower end connection of a bar. The brace part may form a unit with a support, e.g. a wheeled support, and is e.g. casted or extruded in conjunction with a support.
According to yet further elaboration, a carrier according to the invention, in case of a bar connected with a support shows a hollow profile, i.e. hollow bar, preferably at least largely rectangular or alternatively trapezoidal. Such profile is provided with laterally extending rims, in particular to its lower side, more in particular for fitting enclosure by a complementary shaped profile of a brace and-or a support. Such hollow profile may be connected to a panel, at least is adapted to be connected, via at least one longitudinally of the profile extending connection element, in particular via two lower connection elements and one upper connection element. In accordance with preference, where a support is directly connected to a side panel, especially in case no brace member or specific brace function is added to the support itself, the bottom part is at two or more, preferably a plurality of places fixated with each of at least two, preferably of a plurality of the bars.
The present invention hence furthermore relates a product carrier, in particular according to the preceding claim, also meaning a kit of parts for the assembly thereof, for use in greenhouse cultivation, in particular as crop carrier, provided with supports such as wheeled supports for displacement of the carrier along a track as provided in greenhouses, comprising a frame of panels for at least a longitudinal side of the carrier, in which carrier in width direction thereof, support bars and/or support profiles are included, connected with a longitudinal panel of the carrier, and supporting a support surface providing bed part such as mesh or plate element, for instance a synthetic tub and carrying the product, wherein, a support bar is provided with a carrier support part embodied integrated with a brace part for bracing between said carrier support and the side panel. Hence the invention also relates to a such like integrated support with brace part per se. It may favorably be extruded, but can in principle also be casted and or welded together. Such a new construction provides for less parts at assembly as well as a sturdy connection.
According to yet further insight underlying the present invention, the latter also relates to a carrier having a support connected to a support bar, freely in longitudinal direction and without any mutual welding, and with at least one connection between either one or both of brace part and support connected to a side panel near the level of the upper side of the support bar and at least one further connection near the level of the lower side thereof, is improved by either one of the following features according to which: the brace part and the support are an integrated unit, e.g. by casting or by extrusion; the brace part and the support are mutually fixated, e.g. by screw connection or by a mutual weld either of the brace part and the support is provided with both said upper level connection and said lower level connection.
The integrated brace and support part may support a support bar of the carrier instantly aside a carrier panel, at least instantly next to an area reserved for transport means supporting a carrier during transport in longitudinal direction, said transport means supporting the carrier at the lower side of a side panel, in particular via a lowermost face thereof. The support may hence be directly connected to a side panel of the carrier, in particular by one or more longitudinally extending openings for receiving a connection element.
Finally the invention relates to a kit of parts, in particular for a carrier improved with any of the feature according to the preceding, comprising at least one integrated support and brace part. The integrated part may further be characterised in accordance with the features as defined in the preceding.
The invention furthermore relates to a kit of parts, in particular for a carrier according to description in the preceding, comprising at least one support adapted for direct connection to a side panel of a carrier. The support may further be characterised in accordance with the features as defined in the preceding.
Also an integrated brace and support part provided with a feature as defined in any of the preceding claims is hereby defined, as well as a support for a carrier adapted to be directly connectable to a side panel of a carrier in accordance with any of the preceding description.
The present invention relates to an improved product carrier, wherein at one of the panels, at some distance above an at the inside of said panel, a transverse thereto extending flange part, is provided with a hook profile, the opening thereof facing said flange. Hence a product carrier, also meaning a kit of parts for the assembly thereof, for use in greenhouse cultivation, in particular as crop carrier, provided with supports such as wheeled supports for displacement of the carrier along a track as provided in greenhouses, comprising a frame of panels for at least a longitudinal side of the carrier, in which carrier in width direction thereof, support profiles are included, connected with a longitudinal panel, for supporting a support surface providing bed part such as mesh or plate element, for instance a synthetic tub, wherein, at one of the panels, at some distance above an at the inside of said panel, a transverse thereto extending flange part, is provided with a hook profile, the opening thereof facing said flange.
With a such like measure, a panel is prepared for receipt of an insert, capable of realizing extended flange, hence alternatively denoted extension, such that an end part of a support surface may be supported thereby. The measure also realises that an end panel may be shaped identical to a side panel, i.e. the same extrusion mall or folding process may be used without significant change or complication. The measure provides a logistically advantageous effect that a such like panel may be relatively easily and favourably be stacked, which is advantageous for stable and flat packaging of one or more carriers to be easily and economically transported and to be assembled on site.
The measure has also has a significant effect in that the number of type of panels required to produce a carrier is reduced, i.e. if both the side panel and the end or head panels are made of the same panel, i.e. each prepared for receipt of a flange extending insert, whether applied or not, as in case of the side panel, now also prepared for receipt of an insert, however without a specific need of applying such insert at that location of the carrier. This significant advantage is also due to the fact that the preparatory measure can relatively easily and economically be implemented.
In an embodiment a profiling of the panel may project transverse to said panel at each side from the panel part carrying the hook profile over a corresponding distance, the flange part extending transverse over a projected distance equal or smaller than said corresponding distance. Such symmetry may enhance stacking as favoured during both manufacture and transport.
In further elaboration, the hook profile stretches longitudinally of the panel, thereby providing sufficient retaining force to any insert, without having a large magnitude. Such profile may be made by extrusion, however alternative manufacturing methods may be applied, e.g. such hooks may be punched out.
In a preferred embodiment an end panel, alternatively denoted head panel and a longitudinal panel of the carrier are provided in an identical profiling. The carrier may comprise an extension of the flange next below such hooked part, such that the extension forms an extension for said flange in inward direction. The insert at such occasion rests on the flange and, with an transverse bent part thereof, at least after insertion, is accommodated by the opening of the hook profile.
In further elaboration, the extension is at the side facing away from the transverse bent part of the extension, is provided with a hook profile with an hook opening facing the end of the extension that is provided with the transverse bent part. For enhancing insertion of the extension, the hook profile thereof is at the outer side of the hook end, provided with one of a rounding and a bevel, and the opening of the hook is meets the thickness of the plate material in which the extension is produced.
An extension and a panel of the carrier are preferably formed in the same plate material, or at least are produced in comparable thickness. However, the insert may in principle be of any type of material. The end part of the transverse bent part of the extension is at further sophistication produced either reduced or bevelled, preferably at the side facing a panel side. Also, the end of the transverse bent part of the extension is provided rounded.
It is further remarked that preferably a hook profile is included at such level in the panel that the lower side thereof at least virtually meets on the foreseen upper side of a bottom part, in particular of a meshed bottom part.
According to yet further elaboration, the extension is provided with at least one pair of openings of which the mutually closest edge parts are formed with local press out or flanging of the material of the extension, such that these in combination form a set of hooking rims for an elastic mounting clip, in particular at least virtually corresponding to a profiling of the upper side of a support profile for supporting a bottom part. In this manner a carrier surface may be clamped in the structure of the carrier in a known manner, advantageously using the same clamping means as applied between the surface and transverse bars of the carrier.
The panel at small distance below the flange is provided with an outward directed profiling, the height of which matches a substantial part of the height of a of a support profile for supporting the support surface, in particular at least half thereof, the profiling extending outwards over a distance in the order of a few times the plate thickness of the panel. In fact the wall of the lower panel section is at it were somewhat offset outwards, in cross section hence showing an upper and a lower bending or transition over a distance of one or several times the thickness of the panel section, with in between a flat, vertically extending wall section, forming a bumper to the carrier, i.e. setting the upper section of the panel at some distance from a contacting neighbouring carrier, and protecting the screw members from becoming impacted.
The invention as presently claimed includes a kit of parts, in particular for a carrier according to any of the preceding claims, comprising at least one panel with an at the one side thereof transversely to the panel extending flange and an at some distance there above included hook profile with an opening facing the flange, as well as a profile formed such that it is applicable as an extension of said flange, such that the profile rests on the flange, and such that a transverse bent end part is included in the hook. The kit may provided with one or more parts for a product carrier according to one or more of the features as described in the preceding.
A carrier can for instance at least for a substantial part of the framework for the carrier be embodied as a non-hollow profile, which non-hollow profile for coupling of an end thereof to a side panel, near the upper and near the lower side thereof is provided with a in this profile integrated longitudinally extending opening for receipt of a connecting element such as screw or nail. Thus it may advantageously be arrived at a construction which realizes savings both in weight and at assembly. Alternatively an advantageous embodiment may also be arrived at if, when departing from a rectangular profile, such is attached by only two or three screw connections. In both cases the present invention realizes, in conformity with an aim of the invention, a quickly to be assembled and screwed construction, which complies with a requirement of sufficient stiffness in the plane of the carrier.
With a such construction it is, while applying the disclosed screw connection technology in a particular manner to the known carrier, arrived at a carrier that may assembled at location, independently of particular craftsmanship, and which saves on weight, material costs, transportation costs and assembly time. It is recognized that a such goal may be attained as a consequence of the stiffness in the plane of the carrier bottom by the connection thereof with the framework, or that to large extend it may be obviated from applying a small amount of bracing function such as in the connection of hollow profiles to a side panel, at least that bracing in a such construction is exclusively required at the connection between a side panel and a bar, in practice a bar provided with a wheel support. It is herein thoroughly considered that the known per se, at least knowledgeable principle that the weight taken up by the other framework in a carrier is transferred to, i.e. is centralized at a support provided bar via the side panels.
Advantageously in this connection, according to a further elaboration, the brace part for forming a braced connection is provided with a matching profiling for receiving a connection element such as a said bar. In accordance with preference both a bar as well a brace part, as much as the panels of the carrier, are embodied in aluminium. Also in accordance with preference a brace part extends at both opposing sides of a bar and is at both sides thereof connected with the relevant side panel. The brace part is at each side of the bar to which it is coupled, attached to a side panel, and the brace connections are included at the level of the lower and/or upper side of an end connection of a non-hollow profile.
In a yet further elaboration of the invention a brace forms a unit with a wheel support. The brace part is herein in accordance with preference welded to the wheel connection but may as well be provided as an single profile. Yet, also clamping or glue connections are possible. The proposed welding connection can be applied centrally, i.e. may be applied centrally, i.e. factory-wise, i.e. rationally, and supports the principle according to the invention by including the wheel support with brace, possibly even in combination with a bar, as a unit during transport, for mounting, i.e. assembly on location.
Conform yet further elaboration of the invention a bar for taking on a wheel support is embodied in a hollow profile, and is via two, diagonal above one another located connections attached to a side panel, at least intended for attachment in that manner.
Finally, for as far as an end side panel is desired by a user, the carrier may be provided with an end side panel that in an essentially comparable manner as for braced connection of a bar with a side panel, provided with an in a corresponding manner with such end panel connected, at least connectable brace part that is provided with a profiling for connection with a side panel via a screw- or nail connection. The brace part is herein provided with at least two connection profiles.
The invention will now by way of example be elucidated further along a drawing in which:

In the figures, corresponding constructional parts are referred to by identical reference signs.
Figure 1 illustrates a product carrier or so-called roller container 1. It is made with a rectangular framework of metal profiles, with side panels 2A and end panels 2B, here embodied in aluminum. In the transverse direction of the carrier a number of bars 3 are included in the framework for support of a support surface providing a bottom part 4, preferably embodied as a so-called grid mat, represented in Figure 5, which is fixated to one or more bars 3. The carrier 1 is provided with known wheel supports 5 connected in a known manner with a bar 3, for instance against the lower side thereof.
The fixed connection between a number of bars and the bottom part 4 realizes that the carrier 1 is stiff in the plane of the bottom part. The side panels 2A have a load transferring function to a normally with two supports 5 provided bar.
The carrier 1 according to the invention is for reason of a considerable and surprising improvement with respect to cost price and logistic handling embodied with a combination of known per se construction elements. In the new product carrier 1 the bars 3 are embodied in aluminum non-hollow profiles, and the attachment between grid mat 4 and bar 3 is realized by a clip, here in accordance with preference embodied as so-called security clip with eventually inwards bent edges. Herein, an end of the clip is in particular directed crosswise to a flange plate of the non-hollow profile, in particular in combination with an aluminum bar this has an anchoring and therewith self-securing effect.
For as far as, as in this example the bars 3’, which are provided with supports 5, are embodied with a hollow profile 6, this hollow profile is at the upper side provided with a protruding edge for receiving, i.e. hooking clips. According to an alternative embodiment clips for connection of a bottom part 4 with a bar 3’ in the form of a hollow profile are relatively large embodied, so that these hook to the lower side of the hollow profile.
In accordance with preference the non-hollow profile of a non-hollow profile bar 3, is at both edges of at least one, however preferably both flanges 7 provided with a to the other flange plate facing profiling 7’, behind which an end part of the clip may hook. The clip is mainly formed from elastically deformable strip material, here spring steel, formed, at least partially triangular clamp, of which the width of the triangular part preferably corresponds to the width of a flange part of the non-hollow profile 3, cequ 3’, and in which the height of this triangular part corresponds to the height of the carrier part to be clamped, here a wire or mesh part. The securing clip may in accordance with an insight underlying the present invention simply be set in place manually, against the working of spring force. This enables that a product carrier 1 may be assemble without the necessity of specific tools, such as a drill or rivet gun, and personnel trained for operating such tools. An advantage hereof, apart from the logistic advantages hereof, is that the product carrier 1 may be assembled on site, so that voluminous and therewith relatively expensive, often double transport may be avoided. Finally it is a not insignificant advantage of the present carrier construction, that it may be assembled with considerable time savings, as results from having made drill operations superfluous at this instance and it having become superfluous to handle a rivet gun.
The top view provided by Figure 1 shows two, in this example relatively wide bars 3’, which by rectangular wing parts, in the following to be denoted braces 8, connect to a side panel. These brace parts 8 are connected both with the bar 3’ and with the side panels 2A and support the integrity of the construction, in particular at moving of the carrier 1, which transfers its load via bottom part 4, bars 3 and side panel 2A to the support 5 provided bars 3’. According to further elaboration of the present invention the supports 5 are in this example, in which the supports 5 as it were are present below the wing parts 8, formed to a unit. It is remarked herein that the now proposed carrier construction is also made possible by an underlying insight that the connection between bottom part 1 and bars 3 in itself already provides stiffness in the plane of the carrier bottom 4, so that a brace function in the connection between bar and side panel may be kept limited or even omitted for as far as this function is present at support carrying bars 3’. The invention hence also comprises wheel supports 5 that are integrated with a brace function, i.e. brace part.
The Figures 2A and 2B illustrate known per se wheel supports, for instance such as made public by NL1034116, in particular Figure 2 thereof. Also known via this publication is the embodiment of a wheel support 5 which is coupled with a bar 3’ by amongst others the inclusion of a flange part 8 thereof. This inclusion can in the known construction be completed by weld connections otherwise not indicated by the publication, transverse to the under side of a bar, between bar 3’ and a support plane of the wheel support 5.
The Figures 2A and 2B illustrate further the use of a bar 3, 3’ provided with one or more longitudinal profiling 9 for a head or end connection of the bar 3, 3’ with a side panel. This manner of connection is known from NL1032180 and is applied analogously in the present invention in bars 3 which are embodied as a so-called nonhollow profile. The predominant use of non-hollow profiles saves both weight and numbers of required connections during assembly, i.e. reduces the required time of the latter. Hence, in an embodiment of the present invention, at use of a quadrangular profile for a bar, only two and diagonally included connections and profiles 9 are applied, which in turn also results into savings at preparation of a side panel.
Figures 2A and 2B yet further illustrate the presence and attachment of a brace part with a side panel while still applying the manner of connection of the publication mentioned before. To this end a brace part 8 is in this example at opposite sides of the bar 3’ provided with a profiling 9 for the inclusion of transverse to the side panel inserted connection element such as screw or nail. The brace part 8 is preferably embodied in aluminum. In a particular embodiment the brace part 8, which in principle may also be applied at a single side of a bar 3’, may be made unit with a wheel support 5, for instance by gluing or welding. In the latter case the unit of wheel support 5 and brace part 8 according to the invention would be the single part of the carrier 1 for which specialized skills are required. This part may be produced factory-wise, and may be supplied on site as a prepared part of a kit of parts.
Figure 3B illustrates a bar 3 in a non-hollow profile, with at the upper and lower end a receiving profile 9 for receiving a longitudinally inserted connection part such as screws or nails, for connection with a side panel 2A. The present invention illustrates a new manner in which the majority of the bars 3 may be included in a such embodiment in a carrier 1.
The Figures 3A and 3C illustrate respective manners of including a head side panel 2B, for as far as to be included according to preference of the user, while applying the before described technology. Thereto the head side panel 2B is provided with attachment profiles 9, included at two locations at reasonable mutually distance in height. One of these is situated near the upper side of the head side panel 2B, preferably near a bend therein at some distance of the ends of a side panel 2A. The second attachment profiling is situated at the level of the lower side of the framework.
Figure 3C illustrates an embodiment wherein a brace part is included in the corner of the carrier. To that end, the invention further comprises a brace part 8’ such as represented in the figures 4A to 4C, which is provided with a nail shaped profile 10 that may be included in a complementary opening 9 for a nail- or screw connection in the head panel 2B. The brace part 8’ is provided with an opening so that the brace part may be applied while maintaining the earlier described lower screw/nail connection with the side panel 2A.
Figure 6 illustrates a wheel bar 3’ which connects to a side wall 2A of the carrier 1. The connection is reinforced by means of a brace part 8. This brace part is connected to the bar by a common attachment to a profile at the under side of the bar and has oblique upwards extending arm parts 10 at opposite sides. These arm parts are provided with one or more, earlier elucidated longitudinal screw openings, so-called screw channels 9, in this example a single screw channel per arm at the end of the arm. In another example (not shown) additional screw channels are provided at the level of the upper side of the bar.
Closely connecting on the reinforcement a wheel support is in a corresponding manner connected with the bar, i.e. is shifted with a groove provision therein on each of the lower two lateral extending profile parts. The support may for attachment in the longitudinal direction to the bar be welded thereto, however is in the present example screwed against the bar.
Figures 7A and 7B, respectively from the carrier outside and the carrier inside, in perspective view depict an alternative manner of connecting a side panel and a head panel, especially designed for combining a good mutual connection between these parts with an optically esthetic design, preferably having an eye catching effect, and having room for showing a trade mark thereon. It is conceived as a part showing the same profiling as the side and head panels, and may be connected with a limited number of screws. Four showing in a lower section of the corner piece and two being included in the upper section. The latter two are inserted from the inside and have their end covered by a bent rim of the upper section. The four lower screws are inserted from the inside and have their ends below the level of the support surface of the carrier. The corner piece is designed with end flanges extending in the direction of a panel. At the lower section of the corner piece these so-called connection flanges extend at the inner side of a panel, preferably in a profile matching manner, and at the upper section of the corner piece extend at the outer side of a panel. The corner piece may be a synthetic casting, preferably as in this example is casted from aluminum. The corner piece has a generally rounded outer perimeter throughout its height.
Figures 8A to 8D illustrate a carrier provided with a head panel to which an extension of an upper flange of a lower panel section is clicked on, i.e. an extension part that extends the length over which said flange protrudes inwards of the carrier, transverse to a generally vertically extending main face of a side panel. Where head or end panels are generally provided with a flange part extruded in such far inward extending flange, e.g. as provided by figure 11C, the present measure provides that the same flange, without the extension part clicked on, merely extends inwardly over a distance largely corresponding to other inwardly extending flange parts of the panel. In order to securely insert an extension part, the upper section of the panel is at the carrier inner side provided with a hook-like profiling having a opening facing the flange to be extended, i.e. a flange part for supporting an end section of the carrier support surface, which in the present example and preferably is made coinciding with the upper flange part of the lower section, i.e. the flange part by which a side panel rests on a support carrying bar. Figure 8B, in a cross section of an end panel, and in a carrier provided with corner connection as described along figure 7, illustrates a extension part inserted to the end panel. The end part is also visible inserted in figure 7B. The extended flange is inserted only to an end panel since it is foreseen to perform the function of a support bar, or alternatively, to save and support the product support surface at the end panel position. Figure 8A and 8B illustrate a further measure towards securing in place of the extension part, by the latter part being provided with a comparable hook-like profiling at its lower face, in this case with the opening facing the end of the flange to be extended.
Another advantage of the use of such insertion, at least extension part, is that it may relatively easily be provided with punched pairs of openings having at least one straight edge with an in between area of a width matching the width of a upper face of a support bar of the carrier. By providing the extension part with such openings, a known per se manually to be inserted support surface clamp may be provided over the area in between the two openings as illustrated by figure 8D. In figure 8D, the circular cross section of a wire part of a meshed carrier bottom or product support surface is clamped centrally of such an in between area, whereas Fig. 8C, in transverse view, in cross section of an end panel, illustrates a length wise extending part of such wire supported and clamped to an extension part, i.e. to the end panel via said part.
Figures 9A to 9C, in views of part of the extension part per se, illustrate the nature of the in between area of such inset in somewhat closer detail, with inwardly, i.e. downwardly bend flanges, i.e. puched parts, providing a clamping profile for the clamp to hook onto, comparable to the manner of clamping onto the bars of the carrier. Hence, in accordance with a further measure according to the invention, in addition to the present measure to the extension, all bars, whether in non-hollow profile or in hollow, i.e. double side walled profile, have a corresponding head section, equally suitable of receiving such resilient clamp known per se.
Figures 10A to 10M set forth a set of parts as may be used by a manufacturer of carriers for proposing, i.e. commercialising a plurality of types, in fact classes of carriers, utilising a relatively limited number of types of aluminium profiles. In the latter respect the corner part illustrated in figure 10N is a single piece of cast material, preferably metal, preferred as such since it provides a discriminating look to the carrier according to the present invention. Figure 10G sets forth an insert as described along figures 8 and 9, either provided with or without pairs of opening for receiving a resilient clamp, and either or not provided with a hook-like profiling to its lower side.
Figures 10A to 10F set forth a preferred set of two or three panels for producing respectively more than two or three classes of carriers by utilising bars of various height with one and the same panel, as illustrated and described along figures 11A-11C.
The set of panels of figures 10A-10C may be extended by a dedicated set of head panels, for in cases where the customer prefers to have the head sides of merely shallow height. In this case, where the advantage of utilising the same panel type for both side panel and head panel is lost, i.e. where a different extrusion profile is to be made and used anyway, the head panels do not show any intermediary flange in their lower section as applied in the side panels.
Figures 10K and 10M illustrate brace parts for a carrier, however are deemed to as well stand for an integrated support and brace part as well. In case braces and supports are not integrated the latter are deemed included in the illustrated set of parts.
Figures 10H to 10J and 10L illustrate a set of bars for supporting a support surface of a carrier in accordance with the invention. The bars of 10J and 10L are provided with integrated laterally extending rims for sliding connection with a support or brace part integrated therewith, as illustrated in figures 10K and 10M. The latter two illustrate braces and support bars as may be used with side panels of different height, in this case brace 10K for panels 10C and brace 10M for panels 10A and 10B.
Figures 10H and 101 illustrate non support carrying bars of different heights. Where bar of height 10H may be applied in panels 10A and 10B, bars 101 may be applied in panels 10B and 10C, in case of application in 10B, with slit end parts. The illustrated set of parts includes a not illustrated bar of a height matching the height of lower section of panel 10C and provided with slit end parts. All bars may be either I-profiled or may be provided hollow. All bars have a corresponding head, i.e. upper side, for receiving i.e. hooking a single type of resilient clamp, illustrated in figures 8C and 8D and also belonging to the present set of parts. Bars of different height may be used in one carrier, either with the support carrying bars in relatively shallow height or inversely compared to the other bars, and the other bars may be provided with mixed heights, e.g. intermittently high en relatively shallow. They may at such configurations either be double walled or provided in non-hollow profile.
Figures 11A and 11B illustrate a measure according to which a single type of side and end panel for a carrier may be used for different load classes of carriers, in that bars of a height matching the entire height of the lower section of a panel, i.e. the section below the support surface of the carrier, may be used. The carrier is thereto provided with bars with a slit end portion, as particularly visible in figure 11B, accommodating an intermediate flange in the lower panel section, normally supporting bars of a shallower height. The latter could be in a carrier having bars of shallower height, however could also be the case in a relatively high load class carrier, showing bars of a height matching the lower panel section. In the latter case, especially in case the support is directly connected to a side panel, more especially if the support is integrated with a brace part as in figure 12B, the support carrying bars may be of a shallower height than the other bars. Where figure 11A illustrates this inventive concept by means of a hollow bar, such could in principle as well be performed with a so-called non-hollow profiled bar.
The figures 12A and 12B illustrate embodiments in which the wheel set, more generally denoted a support, i.e. carrier support, and the reinforcement or the brace, in this example the obliquely upward extending brace are integrated. Advantageously the wheel set is mounted, i.e. connected even closer to the side wall or side panel with the wheel, i.e. support carrying bar. In the embodiment of figure 12B, the support is directly connected to a side panel via a screw or bolt opening at the level of the lower side of the wheel bar, i.e. at the level of the guide or embracing profiles of the support, matching the lower rims of such bar. In both embodiments of figure 12, a relatively long base or connection is provided in the wheel set, so as to connect over considerable distance with wheel bar, in particular with the lower side profile, i.e. rims of the bar. This connection has a length which is considerable longer than the length of the wheel set, i.e. taken longitudinally of the wheel bar, e.g. in the order of twice as long. With a distance of about 60 mm a free zone is created for allowing longitudinal transport of the carrier, i.e. with the lower edge of the side panels moving over a roller track. Also the brace arm, having a bore opening at its end in this embodiment, stretches over the same distance towards side panel for connection therewith. It is conceived however that the brace arm may, e.g. after a first part sufficient for a screw or screw opening length, tapers towards its side away from the panel side. The represented embodiment however, provides optimal rigidity to the integrated wheel unit, as well as optimal bracing between wheel bar and panel.
Figures 13A to 13D, in the case of an integrated support and brace, illustrate a measure according to the invention, according to which a support carrying bar and a support are mutually connected, either by welding, however as illustrated preferably by screw connection or other clamping means, in order to prevent mutual shifting and adverse loading of the connections under an inclination of the relatively high side panel to twist over its length. Alternatively, and preferably, each of support and support carrying bar are connected to the side panel at two height levels, preferably the lower and upper end of the support bar. In case of a horizontally extending support, at least the support bar is connected to the side panel at two discriminate height levels.
The invention apart from the matter described in the preceding, relates to all details of the figures, at least for as far directly and unambiguously derivable for a person skilled in the art, as well as to all indicated in the following set of claims.
