Description
CIGARETTE MANUFACTURING MACHINE TOBACCO TRANSFER DEVICE
The present invention relates to a cigarette manufacturing machine tobacco transfer device.
5 Modern cigarette manufacturing machines normally comprise a primary shredded tobacco feed section, which feeds at least one continuous stream of tobacco to at least one upflow duct, along which the tobacco is sucked upwards by a suction device onto at least one suction belt looped about two end pulleys and having a bottom conveying branch sloping slightly downwards with respect to the 10 horizontal. Each suction belt retains and carries the respective stream of tobacco to an area where the suction is cut off to deposit the tobacco onto a continuously moving, horizontal paper strip.
At least close to where the tobacco is released onto the paper strip, each suction belt is flanked above, along, and below its sides by a guide structure 15 normally made by braze welding together a number of guide members made of hard metal, such as tungsten carbide or other highly abrasion-resistant metal.
Braze welding the guide members together is a long, painstaking, and therefore fairly expensive job.
It is an object of the present invention to provide a cigarette manufacturing 20 machine tobacco transfer device equipped with a guide structure of the type described above, but which can be produced quickly, easily and cheaply.
According to the present invention, there is provided a cigarette manufacturing machine tobacco transfer device as claimed in one or more of the accompanying Claims.
25 A non-limiting embodiment of the present invention will be described by way of example with reference to the accompanying drawings, in which :
Figures 1 and 2 show, respectively, a partly sectioned front view and partly sectioned view in perspective of a cigarette manufacturing machine tobacco transfer device; 30 Figure 3 shows an exploded view in perspective of a portion of the Figure 1 and 2 tobacco transfer device.
Number 1 in Figures 1 and 2 indicates a device for transferring tobacco on a cigarette manufacturing machine (not shown).
Device 1 is fed with tobacco by two upflow ducts (not shown), along which 35 respective streams of tobacco flow upwards from a primary shredded tobacco feed section (not shown).
2 A suction device (not shown) draws the streams of tobacco along the respective upflow ducts and onto respective suction belts 2, each of which is located over the top of a respective upflow duct, is looped about two end pulleys 3 (only one of which, at the output end of device 1, is shown in Figures 1 and 2), and has a 5 bottom conveying branch 4 sloping slightly downwards with respect to the horizontal. Each suction belt 2 retains and carries the respective stream of tobacco to an area where the suction is cut off to deposit the tobacco onto a continuously moving, horizontal paper strip (not shown).
At least close to where the tobacco is released onto the relative paper strip, 10 each suction belt 2 is flanked above, along, and below its sides by a guide structure 5 normally made by connecting a number of guide members made of hard metal, such as tungsten carbide or other highly abrasion-resistant metal.
As shown in Figure 3, each guide structure 5 substantially comprises two vertical side rails 6 flanking respective sides of relative belt 2 and extending, for a 15 given length, below belt 2 to define, with belt 2, an open-bottomed channel, along which the stream of tobacco travels on belt 2.
Two (or other than two) bars 7 extend between and parallel to side rails 6, and are located over belt 2 to guide it on top.
Side rails 6 and bars 7 of each guide structure 5 are fastened together into 20 one piece by removable fastening means. More specifically, side rails 6 and bars 7 of each guide structure 5 are fitted through with a number of (in the Figure 3 example, three) screws 8, which are fitted on the end with nuts, are inserted inside holes 9 in side rails 6 and bars 7, and fasten side rails 6 and bars 7 together into one piece with the interposition of spacers 10 fitted coaxially to screws 8.
25 Because of the way it is connected, each guide structure 5, once assembled, can be manipulated easily to assemble and disassemble it from a cigarette manufacturing machine, and is much cheaper to produce than known braze welded guide structures.
