Description

Safety blind assembly and detachable connector for the same
The present invention relates to a blind, and more particularly to a safety blind assembly to prevent strangulation or entanglement.
With reference to Fig. 6, a conventional safety 5 blind has a rail 60, a shade 70, multiple slats 71, multiple rings 80 and multiple cords 90. The rail 60 is mounted securely on a wall or a ceiling and has a bottom edge. The shade 70 is attached to the bottom edge of the rail 60 and may be concertinaed. The slats 71 are separately and 10 parallelly mounted on the shade 70. Each cord 90 is connected to the rail 60 and is mounted through corresponding rings 80.
When children or pets are wrapped with cords 90 accidentally, the cords 90 may be dangerous to young 15 children and pets, especially threat of injury by strangulation or entanglement.
To overcome the shortcomings, the present invention tends to provide a safety blind assembly to mitigate or obviate the aforementioned problems.
20 A safety blind assembly in accordance with the present invention has a blind and a safety device. The blind has a rail, a shade and multiple cords. The rail has a bottom edge. The shade is attached to the bottom edge of the rail. Each cord has a connecting end mounted in the rail and 25 a free end. The safety device has multiple detachable connectors connected to the shade, and each detachable connector comprises a connector mount and a connector insert. The connector mount is connected to the shade. The connector insert is inserted detachably into the connector 30 mount and is connected to the free end of one of the cords.
2 A detachable connector in accordance with the present invention has a connector mount and a connector insert. The connector mount comprises an inserting body has a top, a bottom and an inserting hole. The inserting hole is 5 defined in the top of the inserting body and has a top opening, an inner surface and two engaging recesses. The engaging recesses are defined respectively in two sides of the inner surface of the inserting hole. The connector insert is inserted detachably into the connector mount and 10 has two hooks inserted into the inserting hole in the connector mount and engaging respectively the engaging recesses.
When someone is wrapped with one of the cords and the cord is pulled with a force exceeding a predetermined 15 detach level, the detachable connectors are detached to provide a safety measure to avoid injury.
Other objectives, advantages and novel features of the invention will become more apparent from the following detailed description when taken in conjunction with the 20 accompanying drawings.

Fig. 5B is an operational perspective view of the 5 releasable ring of the safety blind assembly in Fig. 5A after the cord being released; and
Fig. 6 is a front view of a conventional safety blind.
With reference to Figs. 1 to 3, a safety blind 10 assembly comprises a blind and a safety device.
The blind has a rail 10, a shade 20, multiple medium slats 22, a bottom slat 21 and multiple cords 50. The rail 10 may be mounted securely near a window and has a bottom edge. The shade 20 is attached to the bottom edge of 15 the rail 10 and may be concertinaed. The medium slats 22 are mounted parallelly and separately on the shade 20, and the bottom slat 21 is mounted under the medium slats 22 on the shade 20. Each cord 50 has a connecting end and a free end, and the connecting end is mounted in the rail 10.
20 With reference to Figs. 2 and 5A, the safety device has multiple releasable rings 30 and multiple detachable connectors 40. The releasable rings 30 are mounted on the medium slats 22, and each releasable ring 30 has a gap 31 formed in the releasable ring 30 to allow the 25 ring 30 to open. The free end of each cord 50 is mounted downward through at least one releasable rings 21. With pulling the cords 50, the shade 20 can be folded or expanded.
Each detachable connector 40 has a connector mount 30 42, a connector insert 41 and a connecting arm 43. The connector mount 42 is mounted on the bottom slat 21 and has an inserting body and a connecting ring 422. The inserting body has a top, a bottom, an inserting hole 421, an upper 4 plug hole 425 and a lower plug hole 424. The inserting hole 421 is defined in the top of the inserting body and has a top opening 420, an inner surface and two engaging recesses 423. The top opening 420 is formed in the top of the 5 inserting body, and the engaging recesses 423 are defined respectively in two sides of the inner surface of the inserting hole 421. The upper plug hole 425 is defined in the inserting body and communicates with the inserting hole 421. The lower plug hole 424 is in the bottom of the 10 inserting body. The connecting ring 422 is formed on the bottom of the inserting body, is connected to the bottom slat 21 and may be triangular.
The connector insert 41 is connected to the free end of one of the cords 50 and is inserted detachably into 15 the inserting hole 421 via the top opening 420 in the inserting body of the connector mount 42. The connector insert 41 has a top, a bottom, two hooks 410 and a plug hole 411. The top of the connector insert 41 is connected to the free end of the corresponding cord 50. The hooks 410 are 20 formed on the bottom of the connector insert 41, are inserted into the inserting hole 421 via the top opening 420 and engage respectively the engaging recesses 423. The plug hole 411 is defined in the connector insert 41 and aligns with the upper plug hole 425 in the connector mount 42.
25 The connecting arm 43 is connected between the connector mount 42 and the connector insert 41 and comprises an upper plug 430, a lower plug 431 and a connecting member 432. The upper plug 430 is inserted into the upper plug hole 425 in the connector mount 42 and the plug hole 411 in the 30 connector insert 41 and may be brittle. The lower plug 431 is inserted into the lower plug hole 424 in the connector mount 42. The connecting member 432 is connected between the plugs 430,431 and may be a rope. With the arrangement of the 5 connecting arm 43, the combination between the connector mount 42 and the connector insert 41 can be reinforced and enhanced. Accordingly, the connector insert 41 is not arbitrarily detached from the connector mount 42 during a 5 normal operation of the blind assembly.
With reference to Figs. 1 and 5B, when children or pets are become entangles with one of the cords 50 and the cord 50 is pulled outward from the shade 20, the corresponding releasable ring 30 is deformed and opened at 10 the gap 31. The cord 50 can be released from the gap 31, so the cord 50 is loosened and children or pets can free themselves from entanglement.
With reference to Figs. 1, 2 and 4B, if children or pets remain entangled and continue pulling on the cord 15 50, the upper plug 430 of the connecting arm 43 will be broken and the hooks 410 of the connector insert 41 will disengage from the engaging recesses 423. Consequently, the connector insert 41 can be detached from inserting hole 421 in the connector mount 42. Accordingly, the cord 50 can be 20 completed released and children and pets can certainly free from the cord 50 and will be safe.
