Abstract

The invention concerns a reliable guiding for a linear traveling stage, specially designed for use in a cryogenic environment. A reliable linear guidance with rolling elements for long traveling range is difficult to achieve since it is affected by dimensional change due to the cooling down to low temperatures. Unacceptable play or preload of the rolling elements can occur due to these thermal effects. By introduction of elastic elements, a play-free guiding with constant preload of the rolling elements despite dimension variations due to thermal effects will be accomplished.
