Een bouwkundige schacht met aan- en afvoerleidingen wil altijd verticaal doorlopen. Dit is weergegeven in figuur 1 en figuur 2, waarbij vloerconstructie 1 een standaard sparing 2 heeft 5 waardoor verticale aan- en afvoer leidingen 3 lopen. Deze traditionele oplossing is zowel economisch als bouwkundig efficiënt. Echter het komt de flexibiliteit voor indelingen van een gebouw niet ten goede.
