Description

Title: FRAME ASSEMBLY FOR ELECTRIC BICYCLE
BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION
1. Field of the Invention
The present invention relates generally to an electric bicycle, and more particularly, to a frame assembly for an 5 electric bicycle.
2. Description of the Related Art
In a conventional electric bicycle, a drive assembly 80 is mounted close to a central lower part of the frame, as shown in FIG. 5, and includes a driver 81, a motor (not 10 shown), a battery (not shown), and a sensor (not shown), all of which are mounted close to a position behind a bottom bracket for enabling the driver 81 to provide auxiliary power for the bicycle in coordination with a user's pedaling.
The conventional bicycle usually includes a luggage 15 carrier 84 and a mudguard 86. The mudguard 86 can prevent the muddy water caused by rotation of the wheel on the road from splash.
However, subject to the limitation of such conventional electric bicycle in structure, the drive assembly 80 is 20 located in a narrow space among the mudguard 86 and the bottom bracket. When the driver 81 is damaged, it is inconvenient to replace the driver 81 to increase the trouble for operation and maintenance of the bicycle. Therefore, the aforesaid conventional electric bicycle needs further improvement.
25 SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION
The primary objective of the present invention is to provide a frame assembly for an electric bicycle, which driver can be operated and maintained conveniently.
The foregoing objective of the present invention is 30 attained by the frame assembly composed of a frame, a luggage 1038069 2 carrier, and a mudguard. The luggage carrier is mounted to one end of the mudguard. The other end of the mudguard is fixed to the frame. The driver is mounted to the luggage carrier, such that the user can directly replace the driver, if damaged, 5 from either direction to facilitate the operation and maintenance of the driver.
To hide and protect the wiring of the electric bicycle, the mudguard includes a receiving portion for placing the wiring in such a way that the wiring is not subject to damage 10 and pollution resulting from the muddy water.
Further, to enhance the structural strength of the frame assembly, the mudguard is made of aluminum alloy and fixed to a seat stay and a chain stay of the frame by a screw and a fastener separately; the luggage carrier is mounted onto the 15 mudguard by another fastener. In light of this, the mudguard, the seat stay, and the chain stay are in triple-joint combination with one another to firm the structure between the luggage carrier and the mudguard.
BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF THE DRAWINGS 20 FIG. 1 is a side view of a preferred embodiment of the present invention.
FIG. 2 is a sectional view of a part of the preferred embodiment of the present invention, illustrating that the mudguard and the chain stay are fastened with each other.
25 FIG. 3 is an enlarged view of a part of the preferred embodiment of the present invention, illustrating that the mudguard and the seat stay are fastened with each other.
FIG. 4 is a sectional view of a part of the preferred embodiment of the present invention, illustrating that the 30 mudguard and the luggage carrier are fastened with each other.
FIG. 5 is a side view of a conventional electric bicycle. DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF PREFERRED EMBODIMENTS
Referring to FIG. 1, a frame assembly 10 for an electric bicycle in accordance with a first preferred embodiment of the 35 present invention is composed of a frame 20, a luggage carrier 3 30, and a mudguard 40. The detailed descriptions and operations of these elements as well as their interrelations are recited in the respective paragraphs as follows.
The frame 20 includes a seat post 22, two seat stays 24 5 extending rearward from a top end of the seat post 22, and two chain stays 26 extending rearward from a bottom end thereof.
Referring to FIG. 1 and FIG. 4, The luggage carrier 30 is located behind the frame 20 and includes two opposite elongated first holes 32 located at a front end thereof. A 10 driver is mounted to two sides of the luggage carrier 30 and can be a transmission motor, a battery, a control element, or a sensor.
Referring to FIG. 2 and FIG. 3, the mudguard 40 includes an arc-shaped base 42, two opposite hooked portions 44 15 extending outward from a top side of the arc-shaped base 42, and a receiving portion 46 formed between the arc-shaped base 42 and the two hooked portions 44 for receiving wiring (not shown). The mudguard 40 further includes a second elongated hole 48 formed at a bottom end thereof for a screw 50a to pass 20 through to be locked between the two chain stays 26. As shown in FIG. 3 and FIG. 4, the mudguard 40 is fastened to the two seat stays 24 via a first fastener 60. The mudguard 40 and the luggage carrier 30 are fastened with each other via a second fastener 70. The first fastener 60 has a first 25 fastening portion 62 and two second fastening portions 64. The first fastening portion 62 is fixed to the mudguard 40 via a screw 50b. The two fastening portions 64 extend outward from two opposite lateral sides of the first fastening portion 62 separately, each having a third elongated hole 66 for a screw 30 50c to pass through to be locked into one of seat stays 24.
The second fastener 70 has a bottom wall 72, two lateral walls 74, and a shaft 76. The bottom wall 72 is locked to the mudguard 40 via two screws 50d. The two lateral walls 74 extend upward from two opposite lateral sides of the bottom 35 wall 72 separately. The shaft 76 is connected with the two 4 lateral walls 74 and has two ends inserted through the two first elongated holes 32 separately.
In light of the above structure, the frame 20 and the luggage carrier 30 are connected with each other by the 5 mudguard 40, such that the mudguard 40 can not only supports the luggage carrier 30 but eliminate the conventional direct connection between the frame 20 and the luggage carrier 30. In this way, when the driver mounted to the luggage carrier 30 is damaged, the user can contact the driver for replacement, if 10 necessary, from random external sides of the frame assembly 10, thus completing the maintenance easilier and more conveniently than the prior art. In addition, the first, second, and third elongated holes 32, 48 & 66 allow the mudguard 40 to be adjusted to an optimal position to be fixed. 15 Furthermore, the electric bicycle includes a number of electric wires and such electric wires can be contained in the receiving portion 46 to prevent the electric wires from exposure resulting in uglifying the whole appearance of the frame assembly and to provide well protection for the electric 20 wires.
Although the present invention has been described with respect to a specific preferred embodiment thereof, it is in no way limited to the specifics of the illustrated structures but changes and modifications may be made within the scope of 25 the appended claims.
