Description

Computer mouse with improved optical and mechanical contact with the mouse pad.
Field of the invention 5 Generally, the invention relates to the field of the computer mouse and mouse pad where the mouse is put on the top of the surface of the mouse pad and moves over this surface, to register the movement and generate data to displace the virtual cursor across the monitor screen.
10
Background of the invention
The conventional mouse pad of today has a hard or a soft top surface. A common hard mouse pad is made from steel or hard plastic or glass. The metal (steel) surface gives the best 15 reflection of the LED- or Laser light beam from the computer mouse.
The soft mouse pad has a textile coating. The fibres of the textile can be made from Cotton, Nylon, Teflon, Glass etc. These 20 fibres can be flexible pushed together because by the space between the fibres and makes the textile resilient. Therefore, small vibrations during the mouse movement can be absorb and stabilized by the flexible textile coating of a soft mouse pad. This is not possible by using a mouse pad with a hard surface.
25
The today's mouse feet under the bottom of the computer mouse are made from a soft greasy material like soft Teflon or soft Polytetrafluoroethyleen etc. to lubricate the mouse movement over the mouse pad. However, these soft mouse feet can get 30 easily scratched and hard dirt particles can get stick into the soft material, which will increase the roughness of the feet and irregularities of the resistance during the mouse movement.
1036867 2
In detail, resistance by friction means a catching grip of the roughness of two surfaces, like the mouse feet and pad, into each other. With enough (muscle) strength, the catching grip will break loose and the two surfaces moves over each other.
5 With a high moving speed, the roughness of one surface has no time to catch grip into the roughness of the other surface. The resistance is almost absent then. With a certain low speed, the roughness of the two surfaces grips into each other and the movement stops immediately. Therefore, friction has a very 10 irregular resistance which causes irritation when the cursor has to be displaced precisely.
If we have to displace the cursor more precisely, our physical system (locomotion) does stiffening the muscles automatically, 15 to create an inner, statically resistance that is much stronger then the irregular resistance of friction, to suppress this. However, stiffening the muscles statically during a dynamic movement is unnatural and unhealthy after a long period of time.
20 The invention
The invention makes it possible to have a light-reflection on a metal substrate for an optimal tracking, to have a resilient textile mouse pad to stabilize vibrations and to have no irregular resistance between the mouse and pad. This can be done 25 by using a hard and mirror-smooth contact-surface on the mouse for the contact with the mouse pad. This contact-surface can be the whole bottom of the mouse or mouse feet attached to the mouse bottom. "Hard" means at least as hard as common glass. "Mirror-smooth" does not mean "greasy" but a certain roughness 30 of the surface. A "mirror-smooth" surface means that it is able to reflect an image of an object, like a cube for example, and can be recognizing clearly as a cube in the mirror-smooth contact-surface of the mouse.
3
Small hairs of the fibres, the fibres itself, dirt particles or other roughness can not get a catching grip on the hard and mirror-smooth contact-surface of the mouse. Therefore, we can change the structure of the textile mouse pad with small, thin 5 (sharp) metal particles on or through the fibres of the textile. These metal particles can be massive or other material with metal coating. The metal particles will reflect the LED- or Laser light beam of the mouse most clearly, to get an optimal tracking. The small, thin metal particles will move along with 10 the fibres and vibrations, maintaining the flexibility of the textile mouse pad.
The invented hard and mirror-smooth contact-surface of the mouse has no catching grip and the mouse moves regular over the mouse 15 pad, even with sharp metal particles in or on this pad. These sharp particles would cut into the conventional soft, greasy mouse feet.
The surface of the new hard and mirror-smooth mouse feet, can be 20 made from sorts of metal, sorts of silicon or sorts of stone.
These materials are hard and can be polished to a mirror-smooth surface. The metal sort can be a mixture (alloy) of metals or a single metal like Chrome. Silicon can be massive glass or a glass-layer like enamel, natural or hardened glass, or a silicon 25 junction like the hard silicon carbonate. The stone sorts can be natural or synthetics including unnatural material.
The principle of the invention can also be constructed contrary, with a hard, mirror-smooth substrate and flexible textile mouse 30 feet.
